It looks like an expand-it tool. I have a craftsman that works in a Ryobi power head. It uses the 40 volt big battery and works great. The Milwaukee cutter blade looks better than mine.
Time to see your cardiologist, pal. I'm 73 yo and don't get winded when cutting my brush with a similar tool. Also, for the thick and tall stems, try cutting the top half on the first swing, then the ground-level remainder on the second swing. This will not only make the stuff lay flatter but will enhance get it to decay before it gets snow covered.

You should give the Oregon mulching blade a try. I think it would work pretty good on that dry stuff.
