LUCK BY CHANCE, 1st movie by Zoya Akhtar(Gully Boy). You guys being actors will immensely enjoy this movie that displays realities of bollywood as an industry and actors' struggle in an entertaining but beautifully directed, almost spoofed, way. I am not sure how good the trailer was but the movie was stuopendous. Do Watch. Available on amazon prime video. 😊👍

The success of Baahubali got more to do with mythological aspect of the film than CGI. The Hindu culture reflects in the film.. I agree it should not be ur first Indian fim..u still need to understand the culture here
U guys need to see the budget of this film...don't forget marvel or DC movies got global fans and they can afford spending millions of dollars in CGI...baahubali is India's first attempt in such a large scale(not just Telugu) and turned out to be a biggest blockbuster of all time till date..with the movie success producers spent more money and baahubali 2 got better CGI than this...watch it and u won't be disappointed..
Baahubali is kind of launch pad that producers can spend more money for story telling which never happened in India then
The trailers u watched KGF or KALANK are sheer examples of large canvas cinemas for which baahubali is the launchpad

I'm a South Indian and I wasn't quite impressed with the CGI as well. If at all anything I liked, it was the acting and the music, but given the budget to pull it off (30M USD) the movie was far better than a lot of foreign films. And as Korbin said the production house probably wouldn't have expected such a huge blockbuster response from the audience across the country.

The CGI is overall very good, apart from a few scenes. You have to judge the CGI in context, not in comparison with America. It's probably hard for Americans to get it, but even in France for example, we're not gonna have the type of top notch CGI you guys have.
Yes the acting is supposed to be like that. It's a period fantasy epic, and these 3 elements easily call for a "grandiose" type of acting.
I still consider Baahubali a movie that can be an early recommendation for westerners, but I guess I see it from a French perspective as opposed to an American one! Still I do remember watching Baahubali on RUclips and seeing many comments from people, some surely Americans, who loved it and said it was the first Indian film they saw.
The diretor S.S. Rajamouli made two good movies before Baahubali that you should react to: *Magadheera* and *Eega* . But you _will_ have to look past the CGI for Magadheera and judge it in context (much smaller budget than Baahubali!)
Also the movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Salman Khan (with the mute Pakistani girl)was written by Rajamouli's dad, who also came up with the Baahubali story!

I believe the budget was approx $ 20 million. So can't really compare it to a big studio Hollywood movie which makes movies costing $250 to $350 million. I would say It was lower than even a Hollywood B movie budget. I think that speaks a lot about the ultimate product.

Most South Indian movies have an element of over the top action, that's what the audiences out here love and hence cannot be left out.
Also, this wasn't the Telugu film industry's first attempt at creating a blockbuster. Magadheera, also a war epic transcending the boundaries of time was one of the first to achieve that scale.

Firstly great review guys, now about the over the top acting, south Indian cinema always tends to have a little over the top acting but just because we have been exposed to it earlier that we have learnt to ignore it but I do agree with your opinions.
Once you get past that you will realize that they have some great stories which is one of the reasons I love south Indian movies.
You guys are really lucky as you have the second part of the movie to answer the famous question "Why did Katappa kill Bahubali?" we had to wait 2 years to know this answer.
