Although I may be biased because I’m the co-founder of a website that talks about cloud data backup and storage, I think everybody should consider signing up for a cloud backup service.
Here is the thing: every day, we’re adding gigabytes of data to our computers and smartphones. Resolution and quality of our videos and photos increased dramatically over the last couple of years -all of them saved on SSD (or worse: spinning discs) that are prone to failure.
The question is not if but when you’ll be sitting in front of your computer, regretting not having backed up before.
But there is more to cloud backups than mere disaster protection. Over the last five years, storing data in the cloud has become commonplace and thus, incredibly affordable. Carbonite, for example, offers users unlimited cloud backup for as low as $3,5 per month (as of June 2016). Back in the day, storing a terabyte online wasn’t even remotely conceivable.
Fortunately, things have changed. Today, I show you my top 7 reasons why I think cloud backups are the right choice, now more than ever. I do realize, there are a few misconceptions, but also some very valid objections against cloud backups.

    Great review!
Between just the free cloud storage providers (Google Drive, MS OneDrive, DropBox) , folks could VERY easily back up what's important to them (most could likely back everything up 10 fold!), especially if they reserve photo storage to Google Photos, which allows unlimited photo storage that does not even count against your free 15 GB of alloted storage). Toss in a few secondary/smaller cloud providers offering from 25-50 GB of storage, and one could easily store a gargantuan amount of data for free. As for getting one's entire system backed up (a good idea most do forget about until their system is crashed), a 3-4 TB external drive is available for typically sub $99 on sale. (AOMEI Backupper, EaseUS TODO backup and a few others offer free cloning software)

If you're really only hunting for "free storage" then yes, you may be able to backup most of your important files to the major public cloud storage services you mentioned. BUT cloud storage is not backup, those services are intended for quick online storage of files, but not as a fallback if your hard drive crashes and that's what I was going for in this video.
You need a proper "mirroring" service (either software to backup locally, or cloud) that takes care of files automatically with out you having to think about it. The easier the better. Carbonite is a solid bet, because they have a long track record and good reputation.

'Subsequent' pronounced SUB'suhkwent, vice 'subSEEK'went.....(Emphasis on first syllable); although if I recall correctly, you mentioned being from/in Germany? Your English is better than most nativeborn and well educated Californians, btw!

Thanks, noted :) Yes, those are common English as a second language problems :)

My own browse-lurking research has also discoverd the following free cloud storage providers: Mega.nz Pcloud.com Mediafire.com box.com cubby.com hubbiC.com Do not use Promptfile or sfShare, as both providers' websites are popup plagued adware dispensors....!

Yes, but again, my main goal with this particular videos was to recommend a "real" cloud backup solution and point out why it's necessary. Mega.nz is great because of all the free storage it provides, BUT it hard to set it up as a working back up solution.

    1) This is a reason to backup in general, not to use cloud backup
    2) This can be done with any backup if you just use git.
    3) This isn't exclusive to cloud backups
    4) Data storage is super cheap. You can get 2TB for $40. Also, cloud storage isn't "unlimited". While it may be unlimited in practice, it's very misleading to call it unlimited.
    5) This is what SCP and SFTP is for.
    6) Refer to point 4 - unless you're storing 4K 60fps video, you're probably not going to use over 2TB in a year.
    7) Encryption is easy. There's an abundance of free encryption out there, and it's not something only cloud storage can provide.
    1) Upload speed isn't an excuse for not backing up your data. If your internet speed mathematically doesn't let you back up everything, you can at least back up your most important files.
    2) Actually a good point - video production businesses should have their own storage and backup servers.
