I love this version of watson. The BBC one is too... emotionally distant... the one with Jude Law is too... violently aggressive and abrasive... but this one. *kisses fingertips* perfection
I love the BBC Sherlock though. I think Benedict Cumberbatch did an amazing job as Sherlock and I think Martin did a great job as Watson. Besides, the BBC Sherlock is a modern version of Sherlock Holmes, and the first episode takes place when John and Sherlock first meet. Who knows how the actual John Watson acted at first. You have to remember that John was emotionally detached since he had just come back from the war, anyone would feel like that after having to adjust to normal life. As the series goes on, he's much less detached, same with Sherlock, he was emotionally detached, they basically helped each other become better versions of themselves. The show focuses on their friendship at first. I still absolutely adore the Granada version though. I love this version of Sherlock and John. If I had to pick a favorite between the two, I don't think I could. I love them both equally. But this is my opinion
@@fredrikkeindry3477 That's fair. I do like Burke as a younger, pre-Hiatus Watson but I like Hardwicke as an older, post-Hiatus Watson. Both have good interpretations of the character, just different approaches.
0:11 Oh that scene is somehow so intimate. Holmes drying his hands, slightly hushed voices, small private smiles, dim candle light. This is why i love granada holmes 🙏🙏🙏
And they are in Holmes' room. That scene shows us there are no secrets between them. Nothing to hide or to be ashamed. They can share every aspect of their lives because they feel very comfortable with each other. That is true friendship. They are too sweet together. They melt me.
If Conan Doyle could see this i bloody sure he'd be quite touched and moved seeing his characters brought to life by these two in a manner that honors his work
Favorite Watson. Actually FEELS like a /friend/, as opposed to a paid associate, in most cases, and a toxic relationship in the recent RDJ movies and BBC Cumberbatch series. I've often wondered about Holmes' flash smiles. Is he being happy and simply letting a moment shine through, or is his mind so fast moving that moment of a smile /is/ the entirety OF him being "happy", and then he's off to the next?
7:35- W "You'll agree that you are not here either for a shave or a hair cut." S "That is true. How did you know?" W "Because you invariably shave yourself. And you are patently not due for a haircut for another two weeks." S "Correct."
And he was over 50 years old when he did that amazing jump over the settee (9:30). All just to keep Watson by his side. I´m so deeply in love with them....
Beautiful . When i was a teenager 55 years ago ; i realized that they love each other deeply ; Holmes like a man who can't have what he wants and Watson , a brilliant example of tolerance and what is now called ; i think ; an ally. For sure ; this is that. I'm grateful for the nicely done edits.
I've watched all of your videos and I must admit, they're exactly what I wanted someone to make a compilation of. So, thank you for your effort. P.S you have excellent editing skills(and this video is the cutest of all) :-)
i love you so much thank u for making these they’re my favorite things ❤️❤️❤️ TOO MANY PEOPLE SLEEP ON GRANADA HOLMES, it’s 100% the best adaptation no questions asked
Agreed. It really is a shame that the show didn't gain the same notoriety as something like Agatha Christie's Poirot because it's just as perfectly cast.
I do love Benedict Cumberbatch and Martyn Freeman but I have to say these two of the first season of the Granada Television series are the best Sherlock and Watson ever. No one can match
Lmfao the BARBER SCENE I JUST CAN'T, Holmes looked like he's getting turned on by Watson's attempts at deduction and that flirty side-eye at 8:08? nooo i can't take it anymore
Sooo we’re not gonna talk about Holmes walking down the street with his arm interlocked with Watson’s like a couple at 9:09 ??? They’re literally married.
Oh RUBBISH. Men in Victorian England walked arm in arm in the streets routinely. It’s only in John Wayne’s American that that’s seen as anything prissy or homoerotic.
Although he was not my "first" Holmes (Basil Rathbone was.), he is without a doubt my favorite. Jeremy Brett simply *IS* Holmes. I first saw these when I was 10 years old, and all my visions of what Holmes could be were suddenly realized . He is beautiful, brilliant, maddening....................incandescent. I think he will never be replicated . #RIPJeremyBrett
I recommend checking out more of the later seasons of the show! Edward Hardwicke Watson pushes back on Holmes' behavior a lot more, and is a perfect post-Reichenbach Watson as a result.
Are there so few genuine friendships today that people always have to think that romance is involved?! It's like those people who believe that a real friendship between a man and a woman is impossible without it ending up romantic. It's so limiting!!!
I couldn't agree more. Regarding the Granada adaptation, these considerations tend to be related to Jeremy's sexuality in real life : who cares if he was "at the very least bisexual, probably really just gay" as Stephen Fry said in an itw ? He was able to love and was loved by many. What else matters ?
No, Watson married Mary Morstan and was later widowed, while Holmes never showed any sexual inclinations either way. I think if AC Doyle was alive today he'd say Holmes was a sapiosexual.
Waston: *deduces something*
Holmes: inspiring, amazing, breath taking, revulsionary 👏
I love this version of watson. The BBC one is too... emotionally distant... the one with Jude Law is too... violently aggressive and abrasive... but this one. *kisses fingertips* perfection

Season 4 bbc is abit cold

4:28 "Elementary my dear Holmes."
The way Watson says that and Sherlock's quick little smile always melts me.
“What do you make of that, friend Watson?” Why does that line in particular melt me?
3:23 Watson's way of stopping the horse makes me laugh every time
Crab behaviour
Jeremy Brett is *THE* Sherlock Holmes
and
David Burke is *THE* Dr. John Watson
I slightly prefer Edward Hardwicke as Watson. His dynamic with Holmes makes them feel more like equals.
