Mexican food is expensive in Japan, i live in saitama and found a place that has birria tacos, it was 1200 yen for 2 tacos and a very small cup of soup, it was delicious tho
Birria it's expensive even here in México, in México city cost around 400-450 yen for each quesabirria and around 250-350 for a taco, in some zones even more, in Jalisco, the origin place of birria it's cheaper, like even 200 yen or less for a taco and 300-350 for quesabirria
My first thought was "yep, that sound about right" Also, there are promotions here of and order of ten tacos for $10, or ¥380.57, or $$2.41, on specific days and specific places, and even lower in the capital (cdmx, known before as df)

Duuuude, Chiles Mexican Grill in Harajuku was so good. They had so many options and being from Houston, TX it felt like home. The owners were so friendly and the place was empty from what I can imagine is people not searching for Mexican food in Harajuku lol.
Your Spanish was pretty good there and I'm sure it's because you already speak Japanese. Both languages are phonetically very similar (specially European Spanish) and you nailed the hard consonants :)
When I lived abroad in Japan 4 years ago my mom and I did kimono lessons. I mainly lived in Kyoto and my mom and I one day walked through an alleyway and found a pretty good Mexican restaurant with big portions too. Being half-Japanese and American I missed a ton of cuisine like Mexican and also pizza.
Not surprised - but it makes sense in Japan. Expensive Mexican regardless of importing product will always appeal to a hip clientele willing to pay. Not very different to his experience with wood fired pizza of late. Pricey but good.
Foreign cuisine is always expensive. Relative to the region. Usa is closer to Mexico and have a lot of Mexicans living in us so of course the food is more available and cheaper than in Japan halfway across the world.
It's so funny to me whenever this topic comes up and people insist that if you don't like cilantro, you MUST have that mutation/gene. But I don't. Cilantro doesn't taste like soap to me. It just tastes bad. 😊
That was some neat Spanish pronunciation. I believe Japanese and Spanish are similar in pronunciation so it might have helped! Very syllabic (i might have invented a word?) and similar pronunciation of letters.
They have similar syllable/mora structure of consonant-vowel and a tapped r. Probably the hardest thing for a Japanese speaker would be "eñe", but other than that they'd probably be able to pick it up fairly easily (as far as phonetics are concerned, syntax maybe a little harder)
Spanish and Japanese have (virtually) the same five vowel sounds. You can write out Spanish with katakana and most Japanese can pronounce is just fine (except for the double r since there’s not an official way to write it? Unless you could get away with writing burro as ブッロ? I never looked too deep into it)
Been here a couple of times! Even though it’s expensive, a plane ticket to mexico from where i’m from (Philippines lol 😂) is even more expensive at almost $2000 roundtrip! I usually eat solo at this place cause not a lot of my friends can handle the spicy flavor! Love that spicy flavor though! So good!
