I discovered these gems many years ago. It was the asides like a conversation he had with my great grandmother when he repeated her words vertbatim & added about the man she had left her husband for 'fish hawker & 'Does little or nothing'. I count myself privileged that in those days, you could handle the actual notebooks & read all the press cuttings that were interleaved. I believe one of Laverty's successors to the Parish said his notebooks would have been 'a blackmailer's dream'.
And Rev. Laverty was my great-great-grandfather via his son, my great-grandfather Cecil Hay Laverty and my grandmother Kathleen. Quite a long story there. Cecil died in poverty in Melbourne in 1955. Hi cousin Heather.
