Well done. I click on this video after along time😀😊 to make for my family. The way you make is the way my mom use to make it. I miss home. One love to all my fellow Guyanese.
Omg these looks so delicious. My 11yrs old when looking for Sugar cakes because they are going to be making them in school. I'm glad that he clicked your channel. I loved the way how your recipe is so easy to do. Will most definitely be trying this. Wish I could get 1😂😂😂

Love this recipe got some of this sugar cake from Guyana some years ago, loved it so much ever since that was praying for someone to make it again for me . And here you are my goodness i am definitely going to make it as soon as i can.Cant wait to try it out .thank you so much
I made it and my husband and I were really pleased with the result. He, of course, couldn’t wait until it was cool and hard enough and it fell apart in his hand. I have more grated coconut so I will make some more tomorrow. ❤🎉
That looks amazing.... I bought a coconut yesterday.... hopefully it is a nice one and I can make this recipe for one of my childhood’s favourite snack 😍
So I never really no wat to do with coconut an always wanted to make my own sugar cake cause I really love the taste 😁now I no. 🤗thanks soo much definitely subscribing 😘😘😘
Hello Matthew, I'm going to try making it weekend, can I use a sit down grater?? I made it like 20yrs. ago when my kids were at school. Thanks for the recipe. 😍🇬🇾
Hi Matt, Didn't know you could add milk to this. Have you ever tried coconut that is not fully to dry? It give your sugarcakes a richer, and tastier flavor. Also the coconut is not to husky. I learn this from my mom many years ago. Either way, depends on preference as you would say matt.
I LOVE sugar cakes! I wish I was part of your family during this time of isolation! Can I use store bought coconut, and which one would I get (sweetened/unsweetened)?
Hi i tried making the sugar cakes and followed the recipe exactly... Except i kept mine on low heat for awhiel before turning it on high towards the end as i disnt want it to burn.... However the sugar cakes have not harden and still feel soft.. It hasnt crystalised at all really.... ? Do u know why or how to correct it?
Hi, I have to say that this is exactly how I like my coconut candy..chewy( I am glad I found your channel and subscribed!😁) Now my question is , how can I best store it to sell when made days ahead? Airtight container or fridge? Does it stay chewy or gets softer as days get by? Thanks.
It is not the milk that causes it not to get super hard. It is the sugar. My family likes it chewy and not too sweet. If you want it hard you need to add a lot more sugar. Will do an updated recipe. I have never made sugar cake with water
Omg that's the way I make sugar cake 50years ago thank you Matthew god bless you for bringing so much memories watching from Connecticut waterbury

Hey Matt I'm going to make this today
Enjoy!
Didn’t know that you can use evaporated milk, I’m gonna make this now, I actually found two really good coconuts at the supermarket.
I never knew that either.

If you want really crystallized sugar cakes, you need more sugar. Will do a version with that soon
Could I use store bought coconut flakes
Yes, but try to crush them in the food processor so they aren't big.
@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 ,ok thanks
Sugar cake looks good ... I will have to try make it. One question... how many coconut will give you 4 cups grated coconut??
1 to 2 coconuts about... depends
Thank you
What milk alternatives would you recommend for this?
Whole milk. If you wanted to make it vegan you can try another milk not sure how it will turn out though.
I'm attempting to make it with oat milk tonight. Oat milk has this nutty flavor to it, I think that it will blend will
@@iamaomibird 👍
Love your cooking show keep it up
Nice. So easy to make. Instead of brown sugar can I add molasses?
You can try that out. Be careful not to add too mucb or it can be bitter
Can it be make without milk
Some people make it with water, but it is not rich at all. You can try vegan milks (maybe coconut milk?)
What about condensed milk ?
We don't put condensed milk in sugar cake.
Pawpaw balls too show me ❤❤❤❤
I will try to do a recipe
Can i use the store bought coconut shaving?
Yes
Can I used store bought package coconut I buy a fresh coconut and it’s not good
You can try it with that. If it dries up too fast, use a little more milk and sugar
How much sugar cake u get with this measurements
You can get a plate full. Depending how big maybe 15-20

Oh I watched again and found the answer to one question, .."it will remain chewy".
Just the other question. How best to store it when made days ahead?
Store in an airtight container or ziplock. In the fridge or at room temp
Thank you so much 🙏🏿
@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 can I use shredded coconut from the store
Good afternoon hope you save my piece of sugar cake otherwise it’s known as survivor cake
Hey mattew i am still waiting on the donut recipe
As soon as I have a chance Ill get working on it
Tried this recipe twice and neither time did they turn solid. Guest I'll be going back to my tried and trusted sugar cakes WITHOUT milk!
It is not the milk that causes it not to get super hard. It is the sugar. My family likes it chewy and not too sweet. If you want it hard you need to add a lot more sugar. Will do an updated recipe. I have never made sugar cake with water
Mine int holdingggg😭😭😭
You may need to keep stirring and let it cook more- you can also add some more milk.
