I had a small frontal receding hairline. I had a hair trasplant 3 years ago and started dutasteride till the date. Worked really well. Last year i started taking creatine again and started noticing that my hair trasplant got thinner and thinner, ain't no way trasplanted hair becomes thinner since that hair doesn't have DHT. I read that a small study many years ago reported that some rugby players who took creatine, their dht serum levels spiked. I decide to leave the creatine about 3 months ago and all the lost hair grew back and thicker. I know it's a personal experience, lowest evidence level however leaving creatine helped me grow back my hair.
I’ve taken creatine for over a year and have a full head of hair at 76. My maternal granddad had a full head of hair at 96 and I thank him every day.
Thanks for sharing ! Did the creatine help you ?
That's how genetic works.
@@TalkingWithDocs The creatine took his life shortly after he wrote this
I think the problem is with men with family history of baldness. Creatine may accelerate baldness. If you don’t have genes for baldness, I guess creatine won’t cause hair loss.
Lucky dog
I’m 34 and taken creatine for a year and haven’t had hair loss. My grandpa had a full set of hair until he died. This is a great informative video.
Glad you liked it
What brand do you use? Thanks in advance for your reply
As usual, thanks to you both for another great informative video. Really appreciate the time you put in to these. Jimmy from Ireland.
Thanks Jimmy! Love Ireland ! Wonderful place.
I, too, am "hair-challenged".😉 I've never taken creatine, but I'm definitely genetically pre-disposed. I started losing my hair as a teenager. It's tough when you're young, but I'm OK with it now. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing !
My hairloss greatly accelerated after creatine use back when i was 23. Interesting.. i had never heard of this before.
Starting taking creatine regularly at age 57, just about the same time you guys publish that other creatine video. Still have my hair and I’ve noticed better muscle development . Also I have my very skeptical wife talking it as well for muscle and cognitive benefits as well.
Thanks for sharing !!
Omg it’s yes or no

Thanks for watching
I've taken Creatine twice in my life. Both times hair proceeds to massively fall out by the 2nd month.
It’s absolutely true. I lost my hair to Creatine. Good for body, disaster for hair. Wish I had never tried it.
THIS is the comment that i wanted to see. I will do it maybe when i'm 50 or something. Nobody needs to look at me anyway at that age. Besides, the likelyhood of me reaching 50 is slim considering all the micro plastics is in our blood and our world leaders REALLY like war.
Creatine definitely worked for me. I stopped taking after getting a successful hair transplant and taking hair loss medications. My surgeon recommended stopping taking creatine.
Wow, that’s crazy hearing it from a doctor. When I told my doctor my suspicions around creatine, he derisively told me to stop reading fitness forums online.
The doctor I’m referring to specialises in hair transplant surgery, aftercare … I found normal doctors to be quite dismissive regarding hair issues or advice. I tried to get a script for fenestride using a dermatologist, I paid for this service, only for him to refuse on the grounds he didn’t specialise in ‘hair’.
I would like to hear what you have to say about female pattern baldness. I am struggling with alopecia. I have tried several treatments including scalp injections of cortisone, lotions and oral meds. Do most people see a change with these treatments? I didn’t and stopped injections and oral meds but stuck with the lotion. Could my hormones be out of whack? How much can stress play a part?
I’m 62, taken creative pre workout for 10 weeks now, have a full head of hair with a double crown, am lifting heavier and have had no hair loss, it’s a win,win for me.
I started taking creative at age 72….just a few months ago to slow muscle loss. I do workout a lot. Luckily I didn’t gain weight. I do have hair loss but I had hair loss way before I started creatine.
Would you not want to gain some muscle mass? If you still have newbee gains in the tank, even at 70+ you can still build some muscle.
I take creatine, a month later my hair falls out fast. I stop, a month later it stops. I have repeated this several times as I really believe in the muscle building potential of creatine. I know this is just my anecdote but be aware that I’m not the only one that experiences this and a lack of evidence does not make something untrue, just unproven.
Ive been using it for 2 years now ,never faced any hairfall

I've taken creatine since they first introduced creatine back in the '90s before it became creatine monohydrate. I've been using it just about everyday. Still full head of thick hair
I was taking creatine in 1994 in the product Cybergenics weight gainer that stuff was rough ,ppl don’t realize how easy they have it today . Lol
I take creatine everyday but I also do Minoxidil and derma rolling. No hair loss.
The benefits of creatine outweighs hair loss but I counter the possible hair loss by doing the simple routine of doing Minoxidil right after I brush my teeth twice a day.
Only takes a minute.
I do the derma rolling once a week. That only takes a few minutes. Well worth it for just a little extra time. 😎
Derma roll with what needles length? Only on balding spots or on whole head?
Only problem now is if u stop taking minoxidil your hair is gonna fall off faster the before u started. So your stuck doing this for life
How do you clean it?

what about hair though?
What brand do you use?
I’m 55 and have always had a full head of thick hair. Because my dad lived to 74 with a full head of hair I assumed I would be like him. But last year I started taking creatine not only as a way to maintain muscle as I aged (I’ve always worked out) but also because of the purported brain benefits. About six weeks into it I was shocked to start seeing my scalp when I got out of the shower. Several weeks later my hair loss became extremely noticeable so I started thinking about what could have changed in my life and the only thing I could think of was the addition of creatine. I stopped taking it and my hair loss has stopped. People swear creatine doesn’t cause hair loss, and it may not in most people but it seemed to cause hair loss for me.
Yes, within a year of taking creatine I’ve noticed my hair thinning considerably
Thanks Docs, blessings.
Maybe a coincidence, but I started losing hair after taking creatine for over a year. I was probably going to lose my hair regardless, but this probably excelerated it.
VERY helpful. Thanks guys.
Nice video. Ive always heard that creatine is one of the most researched supplements and the benefits far outweigh "risk". Even heard the water retention people worry about is usually very minimal and balances out? Anywho, i take it nearly everyday with no issues! Thanks again for the reassurance!
I used to take pre-workout with creatine in it back in high school and maybe that explains why I’ve lost so much hair since that time. I no longer take any creatine and my hair seems to be just fine. No hair loss. All in all, i think I’m ok with normal muscle growth, taking a regular protein supplement, and i get to keep all my hair.
As a runner/swimmer, is there any benefits to creatine? Been feeling my age as I get older (just hit mid thirties) and I'm looking for something to help with workout and recovery. Thanks, Doc(s)!
I’ve been taking creatine for 1,5yrs consistently and haven’t seen any change to my hair. 🤷🏻♂️ my muscles are way bigger though, feels great. Also feel more focused although that may be attributed to other factors.
What brand do you use?
Yes, it raises dht levels especially in men with male pattern baldness, so creatine will make hair fall out yes!
Thanks Guys. I was worried it was going to cause hair loss. Startinf today now!
Good luck. Let us know if it works for you !
The dated study you referenced plainly states a 40% increase in DHT levels after loading. DHT = hairloss correct? Drugs such as finasteride work to decrease DHT levels in the body, and creatine might do the opposites (based on this dated study). If you are going to debunk this study, you should link concrete examples to support your claims. Also put links to the additional studies you mention!
im a 22years old male and ive bean taking 10-15g of creatine sometimes everyday and their are times that I dont for a month and heress my experience. Once I started taking creatine, after weeks of taking it ive noticed that my hair is not growing like the usual grow, it grows very slow. I have very long hair before, and after a week it grows very fast even though I just had a haircut. Now after I stopped taking it for financial reasons, Like 2-3 months my hair growth went back to normal. Thats why Ive search this topic because I heard of a some "news" that It will cause hair loss and Ive remember my own experienced from taking it. for me I didnt loss my hair but it delayed the growth. Maybe certain person experience different effects but it will somewhat connects to your hair.
I’m convinced creatine caused hair loss for me in my twenties and each time I’ve taken it since. I’m not sure though, whether it’s the creatine directly, or the increased performance in the gym, pushing up testosterone and DHT levels.
So does your hair grow back when you stop taking it?
@@mark2073 maybe, but I don’t think it ever fully recovers, maybe comes back a bit thinner. I’m 40 now and have a mild recession and thinner hair at the front after probably 20cycles and some periods of 6months solid taking it. I’m definitely more cautious if taking creatine now and lower the dose to 1.5g. I’m a good responder to creatine though and if I wasn’t I wouldn’t bother at all.
One thing about creatine I’ve never felt comfortable with is the way it’s nearly impossible to dilute in water. I always wonder what it’s that doing my gut and kidneys, hence why I would never take it anymore for more than 6 weeks without a break.
Literature on male pattern baldness is "sparse" 😅
Or patchy!
I like to go by a principle to minimize the consumption of isolated, concentrated nutrients such as creatine. I follow the whole food-plant based diet and ever since just follow the concepts since it helped me a lot in general. My principle, like many, doesn't have scientific basis with a lot of data but seems reasonable.
Very reasonable !
Related question. Started creatine for the aging benefits almost 1 yr ago. Have repeatedly found that if i take more than 2g a day, I have trouble sleeping. Any evidence to support that experience? 59yo woman. Exercise 5-6 days a week. Fit. Also have hypothyroidism well controlled. Ty.
Not sure about the evidence. You will likely still get some benefits at 2g
I’m thinking I’m getting this too. I had trouble sleeping and stopped creatine, and my sleep is good now. I might try again just to confirm
Creatine gives you more energy in the cells so it might trick the body into thinking it doesn’t need as much rest fir some . I work out on it so the energy is used up ,2 grams isn’t much so it’s probably genetic or your taking it later in the night ? I sleep easily even on caffeine at times ,taking creatine at night helps muscles recover faster but it might effect ppl differently ?
Since I am taking creatine ( few months) I start losing my hair massively.
So I stopped right away it’s been one week .
NO MORE CREATINE EVER ⛔️
Me too no more creatine only protein
@@Stayfocused99 Exactly ! BCAA and OMEGA 3 are good supplements too without side effects

Hi Awesome Doctors, is it possible to look into Castor oil and inflammation, specifically for RA, OA and Tendinitis please? Thank you!
I sweeear when i was about 22 I started using creatine and loved it - after about 8 months I noticed my hair getting brittle and I felt like it was thinning out. When I looked it up I saw there was that paper on the rugby players and no-one else really talking about it. Since stopping creatine that problem went away.
That's interesting. Evidence is very weak but hey whatever works.
Definitely increases the Hairfall rate
Hey. I stupidly took 200-600mg of DHEA for over a year. Is there any damage that could have caused? Especially neurologically?
Yes, based on the poor grammar encountered in your comment, it appears there has been neurological damage. My apologies to you and your family. Take it easy!
I’ve been taking it for a few years in my mid-40s. No hair loss here.

Creatine gives me energy to walk much more, lift more frequently, sleep better. I've actually lost weight due to being able to double cardio and superset, drop set 2 of 4 weekly lift sessions.
nice video, bring cardiac doc

I’ve noticed a lot of bald people have a tight scalp.
Isn’t that muscle tension causing it? Or having an impact.
This is true. Tight scalps means low blood flow to the affected area. Hence scalp massages should help.

Now, no one does.
Either everyone is more susceptible or they're taking something that the golden age didn't have.
I know for me personally, creatine destroyed my hair. Stopped taking it and it greatly recovered but never back to the original levels that I had.
I think it's not so much creatine but the longer/stronger stress you can put during workout is possibility
I’ve taken creatine for five months now and haven’t seen any signs of balding.
I recently underwent a hair transplant and I’ve been advised to stay off of whey because “there are studies” that suggest whey causes hair fall. Would appreciate if you cover a video on it
Whey protein only helps hair, because hair is made of protein. About creatin im trying to find out… doctors say it is not bad but we see lots of people saying it is. Im not taking creatina only beta alanine.
Adding: What I understood was thar creatin Will make u train harder and Will elevate the testestorone levels, testosterone turns into DHT that couses hair loss. In short, we are fucked
yes, but, only if you use it. I hope that helps!

It does lead to hair loss, from my experience
I’ve been taking creatine since January 2024 and it’s been great no hair loss. It’s definitely all genetics and diet related
Been taking creatine for a month, sos far so good! Both my Grandfathers had full heads of hair. Must be a genetic thing. I intend to continue taking creatine for muscle gain and recovery. I’m too old to worry about hair loss anyway. Maybe, it could be a healthy lifestyle as well🤔…?

Hair loss in patches, but it's growing back in. What causes this. Thanks
that is telogen effluvium, a condition caused by stages of high stress to the body let that may be an infection, poor mental state, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, etc. Although the stress needs to be considerable for it to happen. TE is mostly of the times temporal and it fixes itself after your body is not suffering from the stress anymore.

Well they did the research again it just didn't have the same findings.

What is the difference between creatine and creatinine?
before and after
“In”
Creatinine is the by product of excess creatine getting broken down , some suggests it’s bad for the liver but I’ve been on it since 1994 and have never experienced any organ problems , creatinine high levels is supposedly not good but I don’t really believe that ,I still cycle it anyway every couple months ,creatine stays in the body a month after you stop .
Creatine is great taking it since the 90ths
Thanks for sharing !
Only if you smear it on a sander
