I’ve Never seen this race before, as a newer NASCAR I’ve seen the last lap finish and crash, but never had time to watch the thing … until the other day this popped up on my feed and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT 10/10 will watch again!!! 👍🏻
I'm glad there was no caution at the end. The winner should always be who crosses the finish line first, not who's in first when the caution comes out.
Trevor baynes for the wood brothers was up there Jaimie McMurrays was good too see but I'm a die hard harvick fan so this will always be mine me and my brother went insane watching that I still get goosebumps
Ya know. I didn't know this was this race until I watched it. I remember being 9 years old watching this with my great grandfather. All 3 hours as usual, I've loved NASCAR since I was a baby. I cannot express to you how broken hearted I was watching Mark Martin come up short in the last laps again. No matter, it was a great race.
This was better nascar than we have now. Natural pit stops and it was 50% team 50% driver. Dale should have been given his team his father would have never made him pay.
I had this race on DVD when I was young, I probably still do somewhere, and this is still the most climactic finish to the Daytona 500 ever in my opinion.
These cars and engines were pure power. It's so cool listening to this. After they take the green flag and head off into turn 1 and hearing them going through the gears. So awesome. Pure power.
@@bobbbobb4663 there is a clip on RUclips that is in 1080 P from the race from some special DIRECTV thing from the time but that is the only footage of it in existence that as far as I’m aware is known to the wider NASCAR community online
@@DukeTheRebel That makes sense as Directv had a channel dedicated to in car race feeds back in the day. Overall, I’m not impressed at all with NASCAR Classics. They can’t even upload old footage at 60 fps.
The cars made such an awesome sound back then. The racing was more dynamic too. A smaller team could build one awesome fast car and show up to surprise people. That isn't possible now.
….Trackhouse Racing did kind of come out of nowhere. Granted, they probably don’t have the equipment to contend with the big boys, but Chastain, man, that melonhead can drive
As much as mark deserved it, Kevin earned it. Im just mostly thankful my Gma got to see him win before she passed away😢 i was 13 and can still remember her happiness like it was yesterday..
I know I'm not the only Harvick fan who was pulling for Mark Martin.. UNTILL the last lap when ol 29 came barreling down the back stretch.. I was like. Oh shit sorry mark. That's my dude HARVICK!! Cmon man!!! Yeah! Use that hill baby!! Drag race!!!
Pretty interesting how fast David Gilliland was here considering he'd never had a top ten finish before. He also never won a cup series race in the end, although he got close a couple of times.
I'm really glad to hear there's alot of Mark Martin fans out there he was my favorite driver for some 20 years, and I have to add I guess when Mark finally retired then it was Happy Harvick became my new driver
DW takes during races sometimes was just totally insane. He truly said that there is no one better rhan holding off cars at Daytona than Mark Martin. Really? Ugh. This makes me sad. I have been a DW fan for years as a driver for years. He says things that are quite frankly just silly. I know im rewatching this. DW was my first favorite driver since 1989. I loved the man until he finally retired. It took me a few years, but i became a Tony Stewart fanitac.
i was literally thinking this as i am watching the final lap. Martin is the best at it. that's why he has not won one yet 🤦♂️🍃i was literally thinking this as i am watching the final lap. Martin is the best at it. that's why he has not won one yet 🤦♂️🍃
Harvick was in 30th with 19 laps to go. The greatest drive to the front in Daytona 500 history
It’s definitely not talked about enough. One of the greatest drives of all time
"have you ever?"
"yea, a couple of times"
Best Daytona 500 line ever
Imma repeat what I heard a few years ago “no, I have never”

😂😂😂
High comedy
and then theres the tony stewart ad in the 2001 daytona 500 before the big one happened and he went airborne.
In my opinion, not just the best Daytona 500 of all time, but maybe the greatest race of all time.
This is by far my favorite Daytona 500
No other 500 finish since this one has captured the magic this one had . Maybe 2011
What about 2016?
@@joshuabean846only the last 3 laps of 2016 were good.
1998?
2011 wasn’t all that memorable outside of a first time winner who never did anything else in his career afterwards.

9:34 Best D.W.'s quote when wave the green flag!
1:03:39 Sweet music to my ears.
This was the race that got me interested in NASCAR.
Same here.
Thank you for these incredible uploads!! You are amazing 🙌🏾

there just HAS to be a full HD cut of this race out there, I thought this would be it :((
This look like a VHS copy
@@bobbbobb4663It probably is, upsampled as much as possible.
@@D2RCR It's shocking how much Nascar's media "partners" don't really want to work with Nascar to provide the original footage.

This is when Kevin Harvick became the driver i rooted for until he retired. Ironic, because until Mark Martin unretired...He was my favorite driver.😂😂

2007. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.
The day I became a Mark Martin fan.
Jeff Gordon is my favourite. I was really bummed he wrecked on the last lap
1:41:34 Wholesome Zippy Moment
Martin finishing second crushed me
Mark Martin was the best driver to never win the big stuff. One of my favorites.
Pretty interesting how fast David Gilliland was here considering he'd never had a top ten finish before. He also never won a cup series race in the end, although he got close a couple of times.
Pls upload the HD version of this race.
Damn, great race, but I know this broadcast exists in 720p60 HD somewhere!
My first 500
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Mark Martin my favorite racer ever. 😊
Nic Cage gave an excellent command to start.

2:20:51 Dale Earnhardt Jr.
2:47:41 Clint Bowyer’s Wild Ride
I miss when Larry Mac was in the booth for the whole race. It's way better than what they have today where everyone is fighting to get a word in
The 2 and the 20 had the field torched that day
I wish NASCAR was able to find the widescreen broadcast but unfortunately they couldn't.
When the video starts with Nicolas Cage, you know it's gonna be good
Harvick qualified in the 34th position??!!! Jeez thats unheard of now to get in the front unless you're Kyle Larson!
We can see the little Debbie car and Mike joy says Ken schrader’s little Debbies car is a wreck.
Bro we just not going to talk about 14:39 😂
I still cheer for mark. And I scream everytime he loses like I’ve never seen this before 😭😭
The best the cars have ever been to this day
First race I ever watched as a kid. So I started pulling for harvick. Been a fan ever since shame he’s done now.
Why can’t they make the new cars sound like this!! That x pipe makes em scream 🤘

I want every daytona 500
Wow, 18 cars didn't qualify. In ten years, they'll barely be starting 18 cars in this race.
No caution, they’re side by side back to the line!
Dark crash here they come checkered flag…..
HARVICK!
