I love Swamp Thing, but I have to agree with you that the lyrics here are powerful. Always gets me when Mark sings "I see the poet and the fool walking hand in hand to school." Thanks for this.
I believe the lyric is "Or is it a V" a reference to the sci-fi show from the 1980s "V" which featured reptilian aliens walking among us known as "Visitors" or "Vs". Thanks for posting!
It's amazing to see this alive many years after I listened to them. I saw Mark Burgess play live in LA a few years ago, with a band performing Chameleons UK songs. Super relevant. Thanks for posting.
This has always been an incredible song to me, and I finally got to see it performed live this year - I would call it a numenous experience were it not a term so poorly aligned to the themes within the song.
Picked strange times out of the bargain barrel at a record store in the 80s......its priceless to me.....love the songs
IMHO, this song contains the best lyrics that Mark Burgess had ever written, thus making it one of my favorite songs on the album "Strange Times"
Doesn't get better than this, kids
They should have been massive! I have been lucky to see them play live & have to be one of the best live Bands in the world :)
Great music from a top drawer group. Have followed the Chameleons now into Chameleon Vox.
such a great song from a very great band...
Thank's for the words !!!

My favourite song. This was not strange times album but on the tears single. Such an amazing song.

Killer guitars
ALways was hypnotized by the Chameleons UK- heard them on LIVE 105 San Francisco back in the day- UK invasion and gladly welcomed!
73 upvotes and I wondered if I should ruin that "Perfect Number" to 74. but I couldn't just walk away after one of my favorite songs from them.
Thanks for the lyrics!
One of the underrated story songs of our era
The only album that ever really mattered to me...
