@Segalordx your videos have gotten me through some tough times. I recently became sober off alcohol about 6 months ago and watching your videos have helped stay clean and has rekindled my love for gaming. I’m not looking for pity likes or even a reply, I just want you to know your videos are actually out here changing lives.
Watched alcoholism destroy a friend and lived with my Dad while he had his problems. I know it can be a tough road. Not just for you but the people around you. Congratulations on 6 months.
Good stuff, brodie. I've had a history of heavy addictions to substances myself and time does make it easier to rediscover the things that make you passionate and fulfilled again. Keep positive, you're doing great.
@Canadian_Gamer I got mine from Price Club on Innes maybe a month after launch. The Price Club is now Costco Business Center... It was so cool when they had Demo systems set up as well
SFZ3, XMvSF, MvSF, Waku Waku 7, Metal Slug, the list goes on and on, the arcades reached their pick during the Saturn days, summing it up to the brilliant exclusives and new genres such as Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and so much more, those who enjoyed this console, alongside the PS1 and the N64, experienced the best.
That game was amazing back then, I remember seeing the Die Hard Arcade randomly at the entrance of an Ice Hockey rink with my friend in 97'. We plopped in a few quarters, had a blast and laughed at the ridiculously over the top gameplay. I didn't realize there was a Saturn port (and I had a Saturn). I went to Funcoland the next day in a different town and picked it up.
Came to Memories, saw Metal Gear Solid on ps1 at a yardsale years ago. Years of me being in Highschool flooded back to me while holding it, can't believe I am 42 now.
after burner -same, metal slug- arcade, radiace silvergun- same, Goku- same, Virtua fighter 2 -arcade, Primal rage- arcade, x-men vs Street fighter -arcade, the house of the dead -arcade, die hard- same, outrun-Saturn, salamander 2-same, Termination 2 -arcade, Street fighter alpha 3- same, Virtua cop - arcade.
I really like the design aesthetic of Saturn games, more so than the PS1. I still regret not getting one back then. Something I didn't think of yesterday, but it seems like consoles were always shortchanging the provided RAM. However, I think it made for more innovation and might have given us better programmers.
Love these videos. Kids these days will never know wjat it was like for us. Back then it was more about how close can the consoles come to the arcade versions. That was our dream and hope for every console release. Bringing the arcade experience home. Walking into the arcades in the 90s was a pure magical experience. I remember the first time seeing Killer Instinct, my jaw about fell off my face.
Noticed the disclaimer at the beginning. “Sega Lord X LLC” has entered the chat lol. Just teasing. Thanks for another great video! Always appreciate your content!
I do love me some saturn arcade ports! I picked up XMSF some months ago and yeah, that 4M RAM cart definitely works some graphical miracles on the system! far as I can tell, it's arcade perfect! Saturn was definitely a powerhouse when it came to arcade ports for sure. Also I'm gonna have to track down VF2 again for my collection, easily my favorite 3D fighter on the system! good stuff hoping there's a part 4 in the pipeline soon!
Love watching these videos. I remember how badly I wanted an arcade back in those days. But technology wasn't like today. Now we have 1up arcades and emulators 😊
Just a point about capture quality: your white levels in the Saturn capture are much lower than the arcade ones. You need to put the 16-235 from the Saturn up to 0-255 to have equal brightness.
Some great games in here, but one of my favorite arcade ports on the Saturn has always been Elevator Action Returns. Not sure if you already covered that one, but if not, would be a great addition for a follow-up video in this series!
I don't know how games were programmed like this in the past. So amazing . The detailing. And layers. Now I'm 2024. All we have is mobile garbage games that are all replicas of each other. So there's like 20+ versions of each single game. I quit mobile gaming cause it's so lame
I am surprised Treasure managed to bring Radiant Silvergun to Saturn without the need for the 4MB ram cart considering the Titan board had extra ram! I wish House Of The Dead had been ported internally to the Saturn but it's still shocking Sega didn't think to port it to the Dreamcast and despite getting a good remake I hope we eventually get a high quality emulated version of the original! It's shocking the PlayStation got a port of Marvel VS Capcom but the Saturn didn't I could just imagine what that version could have looked like! Yes please do a part 4!
Given that there are only a couple of months between the releases, and the similarity between the STV and Saturn hardware, I would say that Treasure was making the two versions of Radiant Silvergun simultaneously.
The VHS which came with The Game Tengoku is actually a 30min OVA of the game story. The original was naturally all in Japanese, but Limited Run Games released a subtitled version when the game was ported to PS4. I should be available to watch on RUclips.
For me no console will ever touch the Saturn and it's largely down to those arcade ports. Graphics may have taken a hit with the 3d stuff but the playability of the games were always spot on. VF2 on launch was just amazing to play.
Glad VC was last. It was such a good port and although I don't own the Saturn light gun (yet, I use Sinden and don't have a CRT here) I think its amazing that the Saturn light gun has a slot inside for a AA battery for perfect counter balance if you open it up 🤯. Their peripherals designed by that one Sega team were just top notch engineering for their day.
I noticed Sega Lord X Outro with having to drive 2 hours for an arcade. That's a shame. We must be very lucky here in the UK then. In Manchester, there are still arcades everywhere. In City Centre Manchester there is about 5 arcades and arcade bars all over Deansgate and the Northern Quarter. Nearby in Bury, i think its one of the biggest arcades in the world also. FYI - still love the Saturn and its arcade ports 100%
Manchester is a city of half a million people, not counting the outlying areas. My town is 30K people. Closest towns within an hour are no bigger than 50K people. Unfortunately for many of us we don't live in a major population center where arcades can thrive.
I recall various Argos catalogues and the like from the early 90s describing among the capabilities of the Megadrive "arcade perfect graphics", which bitterly disappointed me on discovering the reality - from fake scaling on a par with any C64 driving game, to the butchered backgrounds in "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts" and "Golden Axe" (At least on the Master System one got the sense they were squeezing the hardware for all it was worth and then some). The Saturn was definitely my first experience of arcade conversions worthy of the name.
Hey dude, unfortunately im having issues watching this video same with the original upload - its a complete slide show of images rather then a video 1 frame every 10 seconds or so. this isnt an issue on my end as no other video is having this issue. Any idea whats causing this?
@@SegaLordXi have tried on: my phone, laptop, desk top and even on my ps5 just to rule everything out. on my data as well as on my wifi. Just an odd one i thought i'd bring to your attention
Maybe I'm mistaken, but for instance, VF 2 in arcade uses flat shading with texture mapping (it lacks hardware gouraud shading, it must be done via software), while the Saturn version uses Gouraud shading because the VDP1 supports it, being one of the few cases where it surpasses the arcade, as it's important for giving the characters a more realistic appearance
I definitely played die hard arcade on the Saturn I used to the play the arcade version with my friends and when the home version came out we jumped on it Our favorite part was that guy in bathroom bobbing up and down as he’s taking a pee, like who pisses like that?!?

House of the dead gets a hard time but I don’t mind it too much, mainly because stylistically I don’t think it was that great in the arcade (even if technically it was good). How far sega improved for its next gen console with HotD2 is insane though.

Thank you for the clarification. Because I was sure I watched this not too long ago. I thought I watched it and forgot to like lol.

Have you deleted the old version of the video then?
Thank you so much for this! Could we have that part 4 please?

Do we want more Saturn?
YES!
I had Virtua Fighter 2 on launch. You just had to be there back in the day, it was incredible. Even the silver game case was cool.
I remember playing it back in the day,. but on its pc release. One of my fave fighters.
also...death to dural...especially underwater lol
So true.
@Canadian_Gamer I got mine from Price Club on Innes maybe a month after launch. The Price Club is now Costco Business Center... It was so cool when they had Demo systems set up as well
Same here. But I also think it continues to hold up exceptionally well, thanks to the high resolution, 60 fps and clean presentation.
Great videos as always, still waiting for part 4 😊

It was such a shame the Dreamcast version of SF Alpha 3 didn't get the 1v 2 option, I always wanted to try that.
Also, yes, every one wants a part 4.
