AZ...Tucson to Mt lemmon, and also towards Patagonia, ..visible from the roads as u drive. I used to joke that giant hands stacked them there Long ago, as a child stacks toys. Very cool find. Hilltop sites are somewhat common in your area. This one may have both Prescott and Yavapai cultural attributes in that site group. Very cool find lad!

Your camera captures the color so nicely and these formations are beautiful. SO much work was involved in constructing those walls. I like that you slowly pan the rocks and give the viewer time to observe them. My favorite part was the singing bird in the background. Used to hear those in Washington State. Nicely done video. I always find it interesting the stories that my mind tells me when I investigate a site like this. Those walls have history and such efforts had purpose. It reminds me of the ancient Roman lookout posts along the Western coast of Wales. I lived there for a couple years and walked the coastline around my area a lot. The little lookout posts were stacks of rocks about the same size as those smaller rooms that you found.

That's an amazing site. Place is loaded with structure. I wonder if there's more on those distant similar hilltops. That pit is Interesting. I wonder if it was a midden. Or perhaps where treasure hunters dug. Ive seen at times people have even dug up graves. Cut Petroglyphs and pictographs out of walls and other foul action. But awesome place. And thanks for sharing.
Yes, that is sad and disgusting when they cut out petroglyphs and dig up graves. We have checked many surrounding hilltops, some have structures, some have been developed over with homes, some have no structures, but have sherds scattered, we find many of those, and makes me wonder if they lived there in more temporary structures. There are hundreds and hundreds of sites in just this immediate area. It is crazy how well populated it was, maybe not a lot of people as far as numbers, but they were everywhere. Funny how when the settlers started moving in around 1850 mainly for gold, they all said this was rugged wild land. Well maybe these sites were abandoned by then, but many people had lived here throughout the centuries.

Have you found any pyetroglphs? Are there any flakeing shards? That was a lookout tower for a native tribe. If you go down to the south west. I bet you find lots of artifacts. Great video. At your age is awesome!

There was a glacial erratic similar to the beauty shown here perched on high above the Llanberis Pass in North Wales. It fascinated me as a child and I wondered who had put it there. I got to learn years later that these are glacial erratics placed where they are when the ice sheets melted. Unfortunately the one I mention disappeared from view, and the story goes that some drunken louts pushed it off its ledge and it tumbled down into the valley. There are some great images of these balanced erratics online. Yorkshire in the UK has some interesting examples.

This area wasn’t glaciated. Most of the rock formations you see formed deep underground and the layers above eroded away to expose them. The rounded shapes were formed in place through spheroidal weathering.

I still wonder what these peoples were worried about building these realatively high parepetts all across the sourhwest, i can imagine none of these people wanting to live at 9000 ft elevation but it still makes no sense to me why a culture that were endimic to all cultures in rhe same areas made such drastic lookouts that must have taken great effort to construct, obviously there was a danger worth the effort. Hard to imagine that if all these tribes were doing the same thing that the danger was themselves agianst each other, if so then it actually destroys the theme that these peoples lived in Harmony and were owners and caretakers of their own destiny, instead these peoples were the same as the rest of the world population as killers and takers when the opportunity arouse, and no quarter was ever given.
Yes, makes you wonder. Probably not all violence and not all peace. This area is mainly hilltop sites. Makes it easy to signal from one to another, all of them are in line of sight from one another. Also hilltops never flood. We have flashfloods here, so if you build a house by a creek or river, you will get washed out. So what I noticed so far, we actually do not find ruins or sherds on the highest elevations like 8,000 or 9,000 feet or the biggest mountains. Seems like medium sized hills were preferred, and where it stayed relatively warm year-round, without too much snow. Also they were probably very mobile and moved with seasons into different camps to hunt and gather foods.
@@ruinsandridges good point about signaling, cliff dwelling could be a way to stay dry and close to water but there was also agriculture so still a mystery why the cliffs seems like a very hard life.

Thank you very much! Buddy loves going out with us, but we do not take him to mountain climbing hikes or when it is over 80-85F. He loves outdoors.
