    • @starstreamergirl
      @starstreamergirl Месяц назад +10

      I got you 👀🫡 Isekai is an anime genre where the main character is teleported in some way from their own world / time to a new one! It's a long running genre but it's become super oversaturated recently, often with different mashups of "an average dude gets teleported to a fantasy D&D type world where he's super strong & has a cool job and also 8 girlfriends!"
      There are certainly plenty of good isekai with cool takes on it, but every year there's like 10 new isekai and 8 of them will sadly be identical 😅 awesome if you like that kind of show, depressing if you don't!

    The Legend of Vox Machina is directly based off of a Dungeons & Dragons game, but I think Delicious in Dungeon is one of the best examples of DnD themes, systems, and worldbuilding brought into a fully realized work of fiction. The author is a fan of old western RPGs and her love for fantasy and knack for fantasy ecology and worldbuilding is really impressive! It's a bit of a slowburn, but the concepts and humor are just amazing!

    • @FruityGroovy
      @FruityGroovy Месяц назад +5

      The world building in this is honestly some of the best in terms of fantasy anime in years. I don't normally get into fantasy anime because they are generally lazy with how their world works; mostly generic fantasy setting with little regard to what they put in. Even worse if it's an isekai anime, which just takes the "ain't this strange" approach since the main character is a stranger to the world as well. It's also just bad when a fantasy setting treats the entire premise too much like an RPG at times, such as basing skills on stats and levels very literally instead of just realizing those terminology and game aspects are just for the game mechanics, not something that should be directly stated or acknowledged in the narrative. The creator of Delicious in Dungeon definitely looked towards the better alternative to XP leveling in DnD; milestone leveling, where a character's experience is determined by what they have done, what they have actually learned, and how their character development is going, rather than just wanting to kill enough enemies to make the number of XP gained go up. It's what makes Dimension 20 so good to watch, and it's the kind of mindset that really makes Delicious in Dungeon so satisfying to watch; these characters become better through this journey through their experiences.

    I think Emily Rudd really nailed Marcille throughout the show - all of her dialogue comes off with an edge of "I can't believe this is my life.", and somehow it never gets old.

    I don't know if anyone mentioned it before but it's animated by Studio Trigger. Among their portfolio is Star Wars: Visions episode 3: The Twins and episode 7: The Elder. That's a good barometer of what to expect from this show.
    Fun Fact: the mangaka didn't want her work adapted into animation until she had finished. She also released an encyclopedia further expanding the world. A Monster Manual if you will.
    Senshi is voiced by SungWon Cho aka ProZD. Who also played Ratatoskr in God of War: Ragnarok.
    14:00 a duck walking by with an onion? How oddly specific, it's quite Farfetch'd.

    When old computer RPGs like Ultima and Wizardry (particularly Wizardry) were imported to Japan, a lot of the whimsical humor behind the games otherwise somewhat bare plots were lost in translation. Japan's experience of dungeon crawls started as bleak, spare, completely random, luck-based, almost survival horror. That has colored their view of the fantasy genre ever since--there have been countless Japanese-original dungeon crawl video games since, including a number of unofficial sequels to the Wizardry series. Eventually, that would spread to other Japanese fiction markets, like light novels and manga, and eventually that reached the creator of Delicious in Dungeon, who, among other things, decided to really dive deep into WHY such a system would exist. There have been the occasional peek at how megadungeons of this sort get made and operate, but this goes into how the dungeon operates, and what makes the sorts of people who would give up ordinary lives to go explore a dungeon would be like. It's a great series. Season 2 was greenlit and should be appearing next year.

    For what it's worth, venom is bad when it's injected into you (stinger, fangs, etc), but might not be harmful when eaten. Poison is bad when eaten (or inhaled or absorbed), but might not be harmful if it were injected. I guess if the cooking guide said the big scorpion venom wasn't harmful if ingested, it might know, but I would have preferred to avoid it just in case, too.

    This is based on a manga and the manga has completed. The creator wouldn't let an anime be made until she was done with the manga. At the rate they went with season one, they would only need two seasons to cover everything. Thankfully almost immediately after season one was done, they announced that season two was greenlit.

    interesting name for the halffoot chilchuck. his job is a rogue pretty much and in an old fantasy anime called record of lodoss war (pretty much japans first dnd like anime) the rogue in that is named woodchuck. creator of this story ryoko kui is a GIGA fantasy fan (major baldurs gate 1 and 2 fan to the point she made special companion portraits to share online. someone was able to take it, convert into a mod so players can replace default companion portraitsi nto the ones she drew.) and alot of old and new fantasy media influenced creation of this.
    and again she is a giga fan to point ppl ask who is your favorite elf companion in fantasy. she responded with a full page of various elf companions from baldurs gate, pathfinder, dragon age, skyrim and such.
