I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

I came here to say this as well. It's so rude that he didn't apologize. If that were me, I would have felt embarrassed & awful & would've begged for their forgiveness. Also, a thanks for the medicine would've been appropriate. I'm so sorry you, your mom & especially Elton went through this, Molly. I'm glad that you had a great time at the retreat before this; that sounded wonderful.

I threw up on the floor of an airport shuttle when I was a kid because I used to get really air sick. And a tiny bit got on this guy's shoes and I felt so bad for it that I started crying my eyes out while apologizing. The guy was so so so so nice and said it was no worries because he had kids at home and he was used to getting puked on. He even took out his flip phone and showed my family pictures of his babies, so I think he was even a bit happy to have a chance to show off his kids. But even as a kid I knew that was the kind of thing you apologize for even if you couldn't control it!!!!

Thanks to the commenters for helping me stay on top of my emetophobia! Was in therapy for it for over a year after I hit a rock bottom where I couldn’t eat for two weeks because the idea of having anything in my stomach that could possibly be thrown up was so scary to me. Now I’ve gained back about 30 pounds and am able to live on my own and enjoy things again. To anyone out there with a severe emetophobia, you can get through it, and it is so worth it! If you’re in this comment section or watched this video, you’re doing the right thing. Avoidance only makes it worse. Stay strong! ❤

What did you find helped you the most? I've tried a few therapists and it doesn't seem to work for me.

    • @ladylady8844
      @ladylady8844 8 месяцев назад

@@michelleq841 I found a therapist that specialized in OCD and phobias that had treated other people with emetophobia and actually had a phobia herself (of snakes) so she really knew how to work through it. I had another therapist before her that really helped me through my ptsd and helped some with the phobia but it just wasn’t her specialty. So it is definitely important to find the right person to help! The treatment for me was sort of hierarchical, so she asked me to rank different things for how much anxiety they gave me, and we started on the things that gave me the least anxiety. So my first exposures were literally thinking words in my head or writing down a list of them and looking at them until my anxiety lessened. I would do this daily and rank my anxiety. So say it was at a 7 when I started the exercise, I wouldn’t stop until it was a 1 or 2. And I would do it until my starting number was a 1 or 2 before moving on to a harder thing, like hearing a story or looking at a picture, eventually working up to harder things (for me) like watching videos. I haven’t bought it yet but I’m super interested in this book called the emetophobia manual, it’s kinda an interactive exposures kinda thing.

I never thought I’d have place to share this story, but here we go 😅 three years ago I got my wisdom teeth out and 4 days after surgery, I was flying to my home state for my best friend’s birthday. A key thing to note about me is that I LOVE food, so not being able to eat for 1.5-2 weeks was torture for me. The morning of our flight, I had managed to get some oatmeal and hash browns down(without swallowing, no it was not pretty) and was feeling a lot less feral. If you’ve gotten your wisdom teeth out, you may remember that in addition to the pain medication, you are also prescribed anti-nausea medication. I didn’t think I would need it, but boy, was I wrong. I had been feeling fine the whole morning, but as soon as we got in the car to go to the airport, I started feeling really nauseous. I took an anti-nausea tablet thinking that would fix it but it didn’t. I was wearing a mask because we were fresh out of 2020 and when we went in to the airport I quickly realized the medicine wasn’t working and I needed to find a bathroom ASAP. The nearest bathroom was on the opposite end of the ticket counters and when I was about halfway there, I threw up. In. My. MASK. Thankfully the mask contained all of vomit except for the bit that sprayed up into my eye, so no poor airport employee had to clean up after me. We finished making our way to the bathroom, cleaned me up as best we could, and then I spent the rest of the day relieving the horror in my head. Now anytime someone complains about how gross it is to cough or sneeze in a mask, I have to restrain myself from slapping them 😂

I definitely have emitophobia as well, Molly, and this story sounds so incredibly traumatizing. You sound like you handled it very well given the situation, very proud of you.
The only story I have that is not nearly as bad happened when I was around 7-8 years old when I attended one of my first sleepover parties at my neighbor's house for her birthday. We all were sleeping near each other I think in sleeping bags (I don't recall that specific detail), but we were all awoken when the birthday girl began vomitting violently all over us (she was of course in the center of the group as it was a party for her). Now, this happened a few decades ago at this point, but I still have a distinct memory of her parents showering us off in our pajamas in their house. I recall sobbing the whole time (had the phobia even then), then calling my parents to return home in the middle of the night because I was so traumatized.

She told me that I was making it up for attention and she and her friend made fun of me. We all went to bed. The next morning, we were all watching TV and having breakfast when I told my sister again that I didn’t feel well. She AGAIN got mad at me and told me to stop lying….one minute later, I started projectile vomiting on my own dog. I couldn’t even make it to the bathroom. My poor dog was COVERED in puke. She was just a small Yorkshire Terrier so her entire body was compromised. My sister then told me to clean up my mess…I told her I didn’t think I was done. She proceeded to tell me to clean up my mess, so I did. I threw up a second time all over the carpet again and got some on my dog a second time. Once, after working at a music festival for 16 hours on Randall's Island in NYC, I hopped on a shuttle bus back to Brooklyn. It was pretty packed, and I was by myself, so a stranger sat next to me. We got about 5% of the way when the stranger looked at me and said "I always get carsick. Do you have a plastic bag?" I dug through my backpack, and ended up with 1 sandwich sized ziploc bag that I had a few trinkets in. Dumped out the trinkets and gave it to them just in time for them to neatly throw up into it, and zip it closed. They then just sat there holding on to the bag for the rest of the trip. I was just so confused. If you know you get carsick, why not carry around your own bag?!?!?!
Had a similar thing at Disneyworld. Someone on the packed bus back to the hotel was looking a little woozy across from me. I just started moving my souveniers out of the plastic shopping bag in my hand. Their partner looked over at them just as they were about to start throwing up, and before they could freak out, I just jumped up and handed them the empty shopping bag. 🤷

People yelled at me and pointed it was awful.
I'm sorry the guy didn't even apologize to you for throwing up on your dog or thank you for the medicine. I hope things get better for you this year and I hope you have a wonderful day.

    Happy New Year, Molly!
I can't clean a litterbox without feeling like I'm going to throw up, especially if the crap is fresh. When my elderly cat Marty was still alive, he used an upstairs litterbox and he had those runny craps and they stunk so bad that I once threw up in the garbage bag while cleaning the litterbox.
Poor Elton! And, for the person not to at least apologize sounds a little rude. He must have been so embarrassed, but still the least he could have done was to say sorry.

I’m a retired paramedic and I was transporting a patient with a bleeding GI tract and he vomited so much so hard that it hit the back doors of the ambulance and flew back onto me. We are supposed to have a spare uniform with us at all times but I needed new underwear and bra because of the force exuded. This liquid penetrated the sealed cabinets and ruined many thousands of items we carry and we had to have a supervisor bring out a replacement oxygen bag and take ours for cleaning. That was an experience.

Not vomit, but we took our standard poodle camping with us in Santa cruz, and she got sprayed by a skunk. We gave her a tomato bath at the campsite and tried our best, but we had to, A. Sleep with her in a small tent. B. Drive with her back up the coast to Sonoma county, 4-5 hours with traffic. Eventually we became nose blind to the smell, and now the smell of skunk no longer bothers me 😂

I was nauseous on a flight once and asked for an air sickness bag (there wasn't one in the seat) and the lady next to me said with attitude, "you'd BETTER not throw up!". I was going to be an exchange student and going to a school in England and live with a host family. During the last leg I got nervous. And, when we finally landed, it got the best of me. And right on the escalator. I puked over the rail, so, as we moved, the vomit covered the whole slope on the other side of the stairs and flew down past EVERYBODY. I couldn't even say anything to anyone. I was so embarrassed and scared, I (who usually can't suht up), forgot all the words I knew in English and was just practically mute. your story is WAY worse than mine, but now i feel obligated to share 😂 one of my first times drinking at a bar, it was mid summer so everyone (literally everyone, including the bartenders thank god) was outside on the back patio. i was absolutely wasted (and barely even remember doing this lol) and all of a sudden felt really sick. i was too embarrassed to tell anyone so i went back inside the bar alone and tried to find the bathroom, but i was too drunk to locate it and was seconds away from hurling. so for some reason, drunk me decided the next best choice was to run to the corner of the bar and let it all out. so there i was, alone in the corner of the bar throwing up on the floor. 😭 when i was done i instantly felt SO much better and went back outside, all my friends asked where i went and i told them i just had to pee. legit nobody knew i threw up besides ONE person, because she noticed i got it alllllll over my shoes, which i didn’t even notice until she pointed it out 😭 but thankfully she didn’t tell anyone so when everyone went back inside, they were all wondering who puked in the corner lmao. to this day i still feel bad for whoever had to clean it up, but needless to say i now always make sure i know exactly where the bathroom is in every bar i go to 😂
also i just wanted to add that, if i wasn’t nearly blackout drunk i absolutely would’ve cleaned it up myself. but i could barely walk straight and wasn’t thinking clearly at all lol. i never get that drunk anymore in bars, but it was one of my first times being in one and i accidentally went way too hard 😅

In elementary school once, there was an epic vomiting incident. I'm not sure if a virus was going around or if several kids all got food poisoning at lunch or what happened, but as I was walking from the cafeteria to the bathroom feeling quite ill, I ran into another student who was violently vomiting. The smell was so intense that I instinctually also began projectile vomiting everywhere in response. A third child walked in on us vomiting and also started to vomit, and it eventually became a pileup of about 4 or 5 kids all vomiting in the hallway in close proximity, with one child slipping in the vomit pile as they ran to the bathroom and falling right in the middle of it. 😬 When we all got sent to the school nurse, there weren't enough toilets and sinks and trashcans for everyone who was sick, so children were vomiting in plastic bags, buckets, whatever available recepticle they could find, essentially. I think somewhere between 8-12 kids wound up being sent home after being sick, and that carpet had a weird stain for a long time, that the janitor couldn't seem to get out. It was a wild day that imprinted itself into my memory forever. Anyway, hope my vomit story was somehow able to make you feel better, via shared vomit trauma? I'm glad Elton was able to get his bath and grooming right after, but that must have been such an uncomfortable experience! 🥲

here’s my embarrassing vomit story: my partner was moving away to go to college, so his mom and i spent the day helping him move. i obviously was feeling very emotional about my partner of four years moving away, and when i feel anxious or upset, i don’t eat much. the day was going fine up until this point - we woke up early, made the three hour drive, moved all his stuff in, and spent a little time decorating the apartment. it’s around the late afternoon at this point and i realize i haven’t eaten anything today. my partner and his mom are hungry too, so we pick up some of those chicken tenders you get from the hot foods section of the nearest grocery store. we have a late lunch, we say our emotional goodbyes, then his mom and i embark on the three hour drive home. y’all, i was absolutely inconsolable. i must’ve spent the first hour of the drive sobbing. eventually i calm down, but the crying left me pretty dehydrated, and when i get dehydrated, i get bad headaches. so now i’m stuck in this hot van, dehydrated, awful headache, extremely sad, and nothing in my stomach except grocery store chicken tenders. the need to puke hits FAST. we’re in slow moving freeway traffic directly outside of a major city, so there’s six lanes of traffic, and wouldn’t you know, we’re in the furthest lane from the shoulder. i tell my partner’s mom to pull over, and she tries, but it just can’t wait. i calculated my options: do i puke on the floor of the van, or do i puke out the window? the floor would be much harder to clean, so window it is. as my partner’s mom is attempting to maneuver across six lanes of traffic, i roll down the window and let loose… directly onto a passing tesla. an extremely clean, extremely new tesla. i’ve never seen a driver so angry in my life. thankfully, my partner’s mom found the entire thing extremely funny and we still joke about it to this day. the next day, i wrote his family an “i’m sorry for puking out the window of your van” card and gave them a gift certificate to a carwash. and thus concludes my embarrassing vomit story.

When I was a preschool teacher, one day after changing an obviously upset tummy diaper (already grossed out from that), when I stood the kid up on the changing table to pull his pants up he proceeded to projectile vomit all down the front of me, thankfully missing my face!!! But it was so much that it soaked all the way through my jacket, shirt and jeans down to my bra and underwear. I had to call in our admin to come watch my class while I ran down the street to our nearest TJMaxx and purchased an entire new wardrobe for the day. Keep in mind, this was less than an hour into our day and there was no where for me to shower so I had to clean myself the best I could with washcloths and paper towels and just do my best not to think about it the rest of the day 😅 one of my grosser memories as a teacher lol

I got seriously sick (I don't even remember what it was), & just barely made it into our downstairs half bath before everything started coming out every possible place it could exit. My wonderful, amazing hubby helped me strip down, carried me up the stairs, put me to bed, & then came back down & cleaned up the bathroom with nary a complaint while I'm crying & apologizing the whole time. I still apologize & thank him for taking care of me years later because it was so traumatizing for me.

Back in 2018, I was on a long international flight from being in Asia for the summer with a group of other people around my age. It was the kind of flight where they give you two or three meals/snacks throughout. On the way there, the food had been lovely. But on the flight home, a lot of the food was just...not okay. We had the most incredibly bumpy landing, and after having not felt well since our last meal, I threw up. I could hear other people elsewhere on the plane throwing up too, which didn't help. It went all over my bag and pants and the bag of the girl next to me (who I thankfully knew). I felt so bad and apologized profusely. There had just been no time to grab the little vomit bag it was so sudden. I had some tissues in my bag and we were able to get it cleaned up for the most part using those and someone's mini sanitizer they had. I think the worst part was that another girl in group who had seen it all happen got mad at me for throwing up on the other girl's bag, like I'd somehow done it on purpose.

Poor boy! I don't have a vomit story, but the first time I ever remember meeting a service dog, he and his owner were in at my work, asking my coworker for help on her phone. All was going well, and I was in the back with my manager, when we heard this wet splashing sound. I don't know why, but the poor dog had stepped a bit away from his owner and my coworker and had liquidy, messy diarrhea all over the floor. I swear the circle was like 2' of puddle, and there was splash on the cupboards around them. The dog looked so ashamed, and his owner explained he was retiring literally the next day. We said that was a good thing, as he seemed sick, but it was alright. My coworker moved into another area of the store with the woman and my manager mopped that mess like a champion. I washed the cupboards. The smell was like wet, dirty dog, plus a few other unsavory things, and the whole store stunk so badly that you could smell it in the rest of the mall. The customer felt terrible, too. We kept reassuring her, because we know he wouldn't just do that, but she felt so bad.

One was at a restaurant, and I vomited all over my plate of food. I was mortified and apologized profusely. The other time was in a van, and I threw up into my paper lunch bag. A bunch of little kids sitting in one big area while the parents stood there and kinda formed a circle around the kids. One kid just randomly gets up, runs over to my aunt, and pukes on her shoes. His parents were on the other side of the room nowhere near the person he chose to vomit on. She stayed up like all night cleaning herself, her shoes (before she threw them out), the hotel room, the kids, etc.

My sister who has a massive vomit fear was crying and running away so my dad has to go and get her before she ran out of the building. My mom took me to the bathroom where I threw up even more. But the most memorable part was this very sweet lady in like her 50s gave me a spare shirt and one to my mom because it was over both of us. Once while on a plane-I’m a nurse, BTW-the poor kiddo sitting in the row in front of me, vomited, missed the bag, right onto the seat. They pressed the button for the attendant who came, went back and got a roll of paper towels and tossed them to the mom. It then started leaking onto my seat mate’s backpack. I helped the mom and my seat mate while the whole flight crew ignored us.

Could that have been for fear of getting ill? I've heard horror stories of flight crews all vomiting on the next day's return flight. I think they're just supposed to offer paper towels and plastic bags, and find out if medical help is needed. I actually had the same thing happen to me a few hours into a ten hour flight - a kid projectile vomited through the seat crack and down my back. I ended up giving the mom half of my wipes and a replacement blanket for the little girl (pashminas are awesome for travel). Luckily, it somehow was the most neutral smelling puke ever, didn't get in my hair, and I had other clothes and a full pack of baby wipes with me. The parents couldn't believe I wasn't upset. They explained their little girl gets anxious and vomits, and they were mortified and apologetic while trying to calm their little girl, clean up the puke, and keep her brother from "helping" and spreading the mess. They had it fairly in hand by the time i was done cleaning my seat and changing, but the flight attendant, while quick with the paper towels and garbage bags, didn't help mop up the mess. She did, however, check to see if anything was needed several times.

We had our notebooks out for homework while on the bench & supporting our team. Our coach gave all of us snacks & twizzlers. My friend inhaled her snacks. Shortly after she began to feel really ill. She turned white & then gray & then green. She was wobbly & leaning all over the place. However, there was this one time when both my parents were working and only my grandma was available, but she doesn't have a license. So the school principal, who was a good friend of my grandparents, decided it was best if she herself would just drive me home to my grandma. I got into her car (front seat) and she handed me a bucket for just in case. About half way home I feel like I need to vomit and in my panic I forget about the bucket IN MY HANDS, open the VELVET LINED glove compartment in front of me and throw up in there... Remember this was way back when people had those expensive CD changers in there too, whoops

At the entrance of one store there was this employee forcing everyone coming in to use hand sanitizer... and being autistic this is *the worst* thing ever for me, the smell of alcohol + the gel-ish texture is my worst nightmare. Three steps in and it happened. I was wearing a mask. And I had had a strawberry milkshake like 5 minutes before. From this day on I run away from hand sanitizers as if my life depends on it because it was traumatizing lol

If that happened to me (the vomiting, not being vomited at) I would even offer to pay for his grooming appointment because I know it is expensive and service dogs are so important for their humans!

In high-school the boy behind me threw up in my back pack first period. Yes in not just on. I had to go the rest of the day explaining why I didn't have my homework or any of my books. Thank God most of my teachers were understanding and gave me replacement books. I also kept my morning and afternoon books separate so I only lost like 4 classes worth of stuff but it sucked big time.

12:40 yeah, but as someone who went 5-6 months throwing up daily sometimes 2-3x a day, I empathize with him because sometimes u just don’t have time. But, the non apology or thanking is absurd.

Something similar happened on a bus tour we did in Scotland. One day tour but it was quite long, Inverness to Edinburgh. Smallish ~20 seater bus, little 7 year old just started vomiting. Bus driver at first couldn't hear why we wanted him to pull over so was going oh we are stopping in 10-15min. Poor parents even tried to get her to throw up in her bag to try and contain it. I felt so bad for her. I don't normally get travel sick so it's not something I'm normally prepared for but on the flight over from Australia I had been so sick I had to get some random medication in Dubai. After that kid being sick even I took some of that (she declined because none of us could read the instructions and we didn't know if it was safe for kids)
But I don't think I'll ever forget the stink of that bus. We were in it for about 5 hours after that.
