I absolutely agree, I don't like the jumanji-esque plot, it feels like it'd have been another 4/10 movie that quietly slid into the background if it wasn't for the IP but I don't know what story would even work with Minecraft's creative gameplay. the artstyle is a similar story. yes, there are plenty of minecraft animation on youtube that are great but would I have paid to watch one of them in theater, probably not.
I think the difference in the ratings of the Jumanji films is the original took itself super seriously so it got rated based on that where as the new ones give "yeah this is shit but we're gonna have a few laughs and a lot of fun" type energy so the reviewers didn't hold them to a higher standard
Idk maybe im crazy, but the behind the scenes gave me some real hope that this'll be okay. plus no one is talking about how the writers of this thing have been working with jack black since nacho libre, and that the remaining one is mac from always sunny
It's so infuriating that jack Black looks like he just woke up with his wild year old unshaved beard, put a green tshirt and decided to be in the movie. They should have atleast given him a similar look like he had in Jumanji.
I don’t think Jumanji 2 with the rock is a particularly outstanding movie: but I do think it’s probably the best movie that Sony pictures could’ve made with the concept if that makes sense. Like that movie is just a fun harmless uncharted/tomb raider parody but with the rock for starpower and Jokes that non gamers can understand. it was always going to be that, i don’t think a movie that was better than the ok one that we got could’ve existed.
Jumanji: The Next Level was like, a fine generic action movie. But the first reboot was legitimately funny. I came im expecting trash, but it was a romp. Ive seen it 3 times showing skeptical friends. Im 10 toes down on this. That said, the original is a classic and totally holds up
