Thank you so much for having this song I love it sooo much. I wish there was just an entire 5 minute song that had 1:02- 1:46 I love Angels vocals and the guitar in that section. ♡
I don't think any of the angels were girls. Not that I remember anyway. But yeah the original actor was a boy and had a naturally lower voice. He made it higher to sound gay

I love Rent, its my favorite musical, but can someone please explain the point of this song. Besides Angel’s part it literally does nothing for the story. Its just like: “We interrupt this emotional musical for the whole cast having an orgy.”
A Koala Bear 🐨 Hmmm.... I took it to mean in the heat of the moment, a lot of people aren’t thinking about the consequences of not protecting themselves (e.g. don’t have condoms but not caring in the moment or don’t want to use them because it doesn’t feel as good or is a mood killer) and that accidents happen that could change your life forever because of one sexual encounter with someone infected with hiv/aids. I think it’s a layer of things actually if you want to look into it but I suppose it means different things to different people.
Contact i think has two meanings of contact between people during sex and contact also being Angels last plea coming from his final moments. The warning comes right after they all have their own sexual encounters and he's warning them to protect themselves
It is a great lead-in to Angel’s death. The art of musical theatre allows you to create these musical interludes that help you feel the emotions of the character during intense moments. The synthesizer, the sexual moans, the spotlight, dancing under the bedsheet, the high pitched screams.... it conveys the intensity of Angel’s mental and physical pain during the moments leading up his death. I guess a potential issue with the song is that it may lead someone to believe that AIDS is only sexually transmitted. Maybe Larson should have expounded on how Roger got AIDS, which could have come from a needle that he shared with his late girlfriend.
I think it's like a feaver dream. Angel stands at the gates to the afterlife (if you believe in that). And that's just what angel maybe thinks the afterlife is. One big orgy or one big sexy party. That's what I think. But I strongly disagree with you A Koala Bear 🐨, because I don't think this is interruppting anything. It's right where it needs to be. And Angel goes into the afterlife with a party, which just is perfect for her character, because she wasn't sad that she had aids. She didn't get depressed like Roger. She just celebrated the life as it was for her. So I think that is a pretty good written end for Angel's extraordinary life.
Replying to a 4 year old comment because reasons. Assuming that it's Joanne and Maureen having sex (that is the implication, I think, with their messy on-again-off-again relationship) I've always taken it to mean Maureen was using a strap-on and, uhh, missed one hole for the other, as it sounds remarkably like how a guy would excuse "accidental" anal on his partner. Just a thought.
It's a metaphor. The orgy is symbolic of their unity as a group, but once angel dies, the orgy suddenly turns sour representing the end of their relationships. Things were already straining before but Angels death was the breaking point for them all
Yes as i have seen rent a lot so let me explain it to you. Angel has been fighting with aids and she goes to a support group. In this song everybody is having sex because aids and hiv are sex related diseases. So sadly in this song Angel dies
i think that too sometimes lol. but most likely because this song futures the WHOLE cast and it wouldve looked weird for him to be with the ensemble/backround actors so they had him with the rest of the lead casts part

The part that said "it's time to get my freak on" makes me laugh every single time 😂😂😂
this always reminds me of cell block tango

Collins' "It's Over..." always made me cry....

Kira V. Katko I love the deep piano and bass before she starts singing that’s what drew me to this song
Too bad this wasn't in the movie
I'm glad it wasn't. It was way too intense
I'm not sure it would have transferred well to the screen
it would have been useless to the film and wouldn't fit very well
They probably wanted the movie to remain PG-13. This would’ve brought it to R.
Angel has some range. *And* can sound like a boy. amazing
Probably because Angel's actor was a boy

I thought it was like, a metaphor for the friendships/relationships breaking up,, somehow

I came here for Angels funeral 😫😫😫😫😫
bbbbut why
This song is so fucking sad tho
Does anyone actually know what I think I missed don’t get pissed means?
She missed her period, so she thinks she could be pregnant...which means she cheated on Joanne, so that's why she'd be pissed!
maybe she couldn't find the g-spot :p
@@sarah-micheledumoulin5123 they had broken up at this point so I don’t think she was cheating on Joanne.

What does this mean, all the other songs make sense, other than her death, the sex part is confusing
Navy Gaming it’s a metaphor
It's a metaphor. The orgy is symbolic of their unity as a group, but once angel dies, the orgy suddenly turns sour representing the end of their relationships. Things were already straining before but Angels death was the breaking point for them all
Did angel died in that song? 😔😔😔

what the fuck did i just listen too
I'm trying to understand why Anthony Rapp is in this song. I mean, who has relationship with Mark Cohen in the musical?
i think that too sometimes lol. but most likely because this song futures the WHOLE cast and it wouldve looked weird for him to be with the ensemble/backround actors so they had him with the rest of the lead casts part

If Rent came out today, Angel would be transgender instead of transvestite.
i think genderfluid or simply a gay man who is also a drag queen would be more fitting if it was written in the current climate as he/him pronouns are still used as well as she/her when Angel's in skirts and heels. transgender would mean collins would probably have never used "he" in reference to Angel cause he did love Angel a lot and probably understood and respected all of that.
