My 3 years in college was pretty much all experimenting. First year was in Creative Media (ironic name for a course that only did camera and editing effects work) and I ended that course with a (not very well organised or performed) story about summoning demons for fun cus was bored and it ended with my house screaming in pain from the offending book being destroyed. That last effect was what got me recommended to do a different course for the next two years. Interactive Media covered stop animation, cell animation, metal work, wood work, 3d modelling, filling and editing, photography, photo development, clay, it was Great! I tried So many things for the first time to find what I vibed with most. I made a Kaiju fight on a chalk board animation one time. Like you said, creators should create and experiment. I feel similarly with live anime adaptations. I guess it is a “Whether you should, not whether you Could) kinda thing, but I think it IS a Could situation since anime and manga have so many neat and unique ideas never thought of by the west, let alone set to live action, even if it doesn’t always work. Where else are you gonna see the whole dismember your whole body thing as a super power to the extent the One Piece Netflix show did!? Closest thing was The Suicide Squad.

This mind set needs to spread, creativity is something wonderful and fulfilling. Even if no one sees whats been made the fact that it was made counts for something and should be admired.
People have to know that their is a crowd for everyone...its just about how you attract them. In that niche, like lets say pencils. You will not get 100% of them or even 10% because of the differences in delivery, storytelling, and tone that they prefer. But there will always be someone out their for you, and they might not even like the genre until they met you. Stay strong out there and improve on your craft and how you tell it.
This really hits home for me right now. Going through some stuff, and this just really helped put me in a good mood. Never stop trying new things, and simply making content you have fun making.

Trying new things on youtube is what brought me to where I am, recently I've been not wanting to upload because my stuff hasnt done too well. BUT I always say to myself "Hey you know what, if ANYONE likes what I do, then I'll be happy", and thats been my mindset for a while. I agree with you on so many levels, creativity is something that I wish people used more when it comes to content, so its always great to see SMALL creators make absolutely stunning videos!
I think the fact that there is such a wide variety of content in the videos on this channel (despite ThatOneGuy having such a distinct signature style) will help it in the long run. You might blow up faster in the algorithm as a MrBeast clone channel or something of that nature, but I think that actual creative projects like the ones found on this channel are much better for building up an audience who actually care about the videos they watch.
Funny you mention MrBeast. I started watching him when he was still casually dunking on stupid intro videos, making ‘drink bleach’ jokes, constantly referencing a printed photograph of an Asian dude on his wall and basically chilling in a single room for entire videos. The only thing that has remained from that era was a song one of his fans wrote as an outro. Other than that, nothing he did then resembles his current content - even the general vibe of the comedy is notably different. I think certain brands of content like reaction channels get a bad rep because of how repeatable they are, but such genres never started out to make money. Some people genuinely wanted to share their feelings in real time to the internet regarding particular videos and stuff. It’s not about how much you can innovate or blow peoples minds with novelty genres or anything like that. True, that stuff is absolutely worthwhile just to take part in living, but really, as long as your decision to make stuff is based on fun first, it really doesn’t matter what you make, or even the success you gain or lack, because as Reggie Fils Aime from Nintendo once said “If it’s not fun, why bother?”

Also I literally had beef with a group of RUclipsrs that all uploaded the exact same low quality videos all the time and were basically farming the algorithm (most of them had “ify” at the end of their name, the main one being Cyanify)

I feel this, I make mashups on my channel and barely get any views. But I make one video that isn’t a mashup but a scene comparison and it gets a million views and gets me 3k subs. Thing is, those people aren’t watching anything else on my channel so there’s this big disconnect. So now, every few months I feel like quitting because my videos are getting little to no attention still but now I have 3k subscribers that I don’t feel like I earned. Now I blame that video for ruining my channel, I was at 100 subscribers so at least it made sense for my videos to not have a lot of attention
100%. algorithms exist on every platform it should be said, BUT ones like youtube where its focus is, or at least should be, on the creator/content creator-sphere are fueled by quantity and general interaction over quality and organic interaction. i think TOG will probably be fine though due to youtube gaining traction in shorts and losing it in long-form video making to the point they've been operating at a loss for the last 4 quarters LOL.
Don't have to rely on the algorithm if you have all notifs on your favorite creators But yeah just keep creating so long as you enjoy it eventually you will get one or two videos with high enough view counts I made a low effort meme video for shits n giggles, and that gave me like 550 subs two months later cause for some reason RUclips's algorithm is picking random videos lol No need to turn into a monotonous machine of a content creator so long as you don't focus on wanting higher viewer counts

The good side is eventually you will develop a following that comes to respect your creativity. The bad side is it might not get as much recognition but that's alright right? At the end of the day, RUclips is what you make of it and if you believe that RUclips is out to get it's creators.
