I like the ranking format, nice job. Also, kudos to Riggs for the suggestion. It’s great to have recommendations for good games, but also nice to know what to avoid. Especially so with retro game prices going up.
I love your videos because you give me a little taste of what these games are like. I have to say though that I personally love Chase HQ 2. I play it with infinite time, and turbos and have a blast !!
I respect your ranking with Chase HQ 2. I personally like it cause it has so much nostalgia playing it back in the day with my younger brother. We usually take turn playing it. it was quite fun for a 11-year-old and 7-year-old at the time.
I've always really enjoyed "Hit The Ice" (but I love hockey). Not the best sports title on the Genesis by any means, but just good, stupid fun. Goes great with a few beers.
Awesome John. Loved Hit The Ice as a kid, recently picked it up for TG-16 and it was enough to rekindle fond memories, though perhaps not as good as I remembered. Great video
Taito also did a very good job with New Zealand Story on the Sega Master System, one of those later Master System games that look almost 16-bit and much more colourful than the Nintendo Famicom/NES version.
There is no Famicom version of New Zealand Story - Kiwi Kraze/ New Zealand Story was an US only release on the NES. PS: The Master System port of New Zealnad Story is great but is one of the few MS games that does not run correctly in 60Hz = if you play the Master System version of New Zealand Story on an US Master System it will have a lot of graphical glitches.
Awesome list and ranking! Its also great to see gameplay when talking about the games. And to be fair with the overdubbing, I've done practically the exact same thing on a previous gaming pick ups video, when I've forgot to add a line in when filming. And matching the camera audio is very awkward with positioning the microphone. Its totally understandable when your working on alot of stuff, since you won't have time to re-record anything. Great stuff as always!
Mystical Fighter is one of the ones NO ONE talks about when it comes to Great Brawlers. I think it's better than The Punisher, whicc is one that Always gets brought up. Very underrated, imho.
There was Rainbow Islands & Rainbow Islands EXTRA in the Arcade. The Mega Drive port is Rainbow Islands EXTRA - it has different music, enemies & stage designs. A lot of people mix these two up - they are different games.
Another video from the Immortal One! I am pleased that there is a new John Hancock video. I really look forward because you appreciate the oldies like me.
How is Rastan which still looks good sounds amazing and fun to play so much better than the second one that looks like cat puke. Taito should have just made more levels for Rastan 1 and called it Rastan 2. Rastan 1 music still gives chills. Epic soundtrack
Great video! Any time this gets you to dive deep into your collection and show it off, I'm a huge fan. The only one of these I'd played was ThunderFox, and good lord, what a bad experience!
taito was on fire back in the day. lots of great games and most still are fun today. in the mega drive/SNES era they had so many great platformers...I wish they had some more 2D Platformers come out nowadays.
Rainbow Islands is also an arcade conversion. It actually has both arcade versions that you can chance between in the menus. What you showed was the newer extra version. I recommend playing the original version because that is how it was designed. The extra version is good but not as good as the original.
Yes but even if you switch to the Original mode on the Mega Drive port it still does not have the original blue background but the black background of the EXTRA version :( The main thing that bugs me about the EXTRA version is that they changed the original musi (for the worse).
You touch on it, and I think the issue for lukewarm feelings for Platformers and Shooters during the 16-bit era is just HOW MANY there are. So the real cream of the crop push down average to "mediocre" status just because of the "If I can only play 5" factor. I have no opinion on the ones you reviewed, but I will be trying Fire Mustang sooner than not. Tha is for the heads up. Same with Rainbow Island.
Another angle here is that a lot of people today are just looking for something that they haven't played before in those genres on the console. So coming back around, the ones we missed now have being different from what we've played for decades going for them.
To enjoy Saint Sword and Thunder Fox you have to play many stages, John. The main features and best parts of the gameplay appears after the firsrt stage in both games.
Good video. While I have a number of these games from the Taito Legends 1 and 2 (1 for the OG Xbox and PC, 2 from PS2), those are the arcade versions. The only one I have for my Genesis is Saint Sword. That one I got from a guy on Usenet back in the late 1990s and I'm pretty sure I haven't played it since I bought it...not remarkable other than that weird cover :)
I would love to see you do more of these videos! However you gave Growl a B and I thought I remember you saying it was your favorite Genesis game, maybe in a MJR video, has your favorite game changed a lot over the years as you've played more Genesis games? Thanks for the video!
It has. Some games that I went back to just don't feel the same. I still have my all time favorites, but some have changed. I still like Growl, but it is a flawed port and rated it as such.
Really fun videos to watch. Concerning Rainbow Islands, though, I have never managed to become friends with the jumping height which is flawed in this version. The fact that you jump too low, having to use rainbows to reach platforms that should be (and is) in reach in other versions completely throws the flow off.
Looks like a really accurate and fair ranking. I'd put saint sward at a B, rastan 2 at a C. Ultimate kicks isn't my type of game but I like what they did with it and can see the rating you gave. Space invader is in the B-C territory for me but that's more preference. I haven't tried thunder fox but looks like a C for me but could see the justification for the D. The shooters I've never heard of or played but look like solid games worthy of an A. Mystical fighter is on the boarder of A/B but I say an A. Everything else I agree with.
Did you see the Taito arcade collection for the Original XBOX it features quite a few games including Space Invaders as well as Bubble Bobble it does have that Rainbow game?
@John Hancock A couple of the "D" ranked titles looked almost the same. If Taito wanted to make a cruddy game, okay, but did they have to make it more than once?
Chaae HQ 2 is amazing. Nothing beats the arcade version of the first Chase HQ, played it via Taito Memories 2 and it is a masterpiece. Chase HQ 2 is better than Super Chase HQ IMO
I can't believe you gave Chase HQ 2 a D! That's an excellent version of one of my favorite Taito games! It's a B for me. Also really like Saint Sword, also a B. As a contrast, I think Darius is boring so I don't like Sagaia, it's very average on the system with much better shmups.
Because opinions are fluid and develop over time, the trick is understanding one man's opinion on a topic is variable and not necessarily a ringing endorsement nor a condemnation and a game that sucks may be anyone's favorite
I would disagree with Growl, to me it was a huge disappointment to lose multiplayer... and also i finished it in my first sitting so i would have ranked it lower... at least with Cadash we got the mulitplayer element. Those side scrolling flintstones games are generally pretty good and underrated!
i agree almost everything except saint sword ive played it too the end and it was really good better than it looks i,ll give it an A everything else sounds good thanks bro.
Man... How I hate Rastan Saga 2... The first one was so fun to play, despite the clunky controls... Everything in the second one was boring and poorly done. A D is a good ranking for that one.
i liked cadash i had it and beat it i also had rastan saga 2 and beat it too but i also thought it sucked it the arcade version of the first game was waaaaayyyyyyyy better
"fighter planes" over dub made me thumbs up.
You and Riggs are KILLING IT lately with these publisher ranking vidd
I like how you always break down if it's a port or if there are different versions on different systems! You are the game professor, I appreciate it!
Glad to help!

I loved Chase HQ. One of my favs I discovered via emulation while trying to widdle away the time while working in Shenzhen a few years ago.
John turned me on to Mystical Fighter a while ago! One of my favorite genesis games.. a must have for sure!!!
I'm really liking these ranking videos, I've wathced like 4 today!
I respect your ranking with Chase HQ 2. I personally like it cause it has so much nostalgia playing it back in the day with my younger brother. We usually take turn playing it. it was quite fun for a 11-year-old and 7-year-old at the time.
I would give Space Invaders 91 "S" Tier amazing graphics, great soundtrack, arcade like sound effects and reallyl creative powerups.
Chase HQ II was awesome!!!! Not perfect but good for what it was. It had cool music.
I've always really enjoyed "Hit The Ice" (but I love hockey). Not the best sports title on the Genesis by any means, but just good, stupid fun. Goes great with a few beers.
I also like Growl!! Great video!
I love these videos. So far I learned about the games these publishers released, arena entertainment, flying edge, konami and capcom (I think).
Glad you enjoy them and more to come!
Love the grade videos man very original and educational on gaming history 10/10 dude👍👍👍👍👍
Oh man, I remember Mystical Fighter! I played this game a lot with one of my good friends in grade 2. Good times...
I'm hooked with this tier videos keep it up! Cheers from Argentina!
John: I have a hate relationship with this game...I'm giving it a D.
The letter F: Am I a joke to you?
This sequel to a game I love ripped my heart out and is one of the biggest disappointments I've ever experienced. I'm giving it a D.
Awesome John. Loved Hit The Ice as a kid, recently picked it up for TG-16 and it was enough to rekindle fond memories, though perhaps not as good as I remembered. Great video
Good video! I never knew there was a Flintstones game for the Sega Genesis system! Nice review of the games by Taito.
John doing his best Britney Spears and Ashley Simpson @2:02 😂👍🏼😂🤣😂
Yes sir

Took John Riggs' idea and made it into a Genesis anthology. Great job. I always go back to it time to time.
Interesting Video John and Keep Up the Good Work and the Good Fight!

Shout out to John for the Mystical Fighter. I remember you mentioning this on a hidden gems video from MJR. Fun fun arcade style beat em' up!
Thank you for making your videos loud enough to hear. Also I like your hat.
Great video! Any time this gets you to dive deep into your collection and show it off, I'm a huge fan. The only one of these I'd played was ThunderFox, and good lord, what a bad experience!

@@MadStalker80 I mostly played the Amiga version as a kid
@@arcadedbeast Me too :) The Amiga port is awesome but it has one flaw - its missing the 3 secret islands :(
“Fighter planes” 😂😂
Classic over dub. I really want to know what he actually said. Lol
@@bicarbonateyoda3205 I think he said fire mustangs
Got to check these games out on the Genesis.

Love your videos. You have an Amazing collection. Museum quality Gameroom.
Lightbringer is the best taito arcade game, but new Zealand story and its spiritual successor liquid kids are also great!
Love both New Zealand Story and Liquid Kids
"We never got this in the States" can be applied to so many games from the 16-bit era.
I would love to see you do more of these videos! However you gave Growl a B and I thought I remember you saying it was your favorite Genesis game, maybe in a MJR video, has your favorite game changed a lot over the years as you've played more Genesis games? Thanks for the video!

Wonder who he got this idea from . . .
It could be Rigged.
He says thanks to John Riggs at the end..
@Splutter Dog rgt85 did this but hasnt in a year.
Did you see the Taito arcade collection for the Original XBOX it features quite a few games including Space Invaders as well as Bubble Bobble it does have that Rainbow game?
Rainbow Islands
@@johnhancockretro That's the game but I was asking if you had heard of the Taito arcade collection for the Original XBOX.

10:13 - Fans of the GRAND DAD meme, this is what you came here for.
Just like John Riggs videos. Love them.👍
Chaae HQ 2 is amazing. Nothing beats the arcade version of the first Chase HQ, played it via Taito Memories 2 and it is a masterpiece. Chase HQ 2 is better than Super Chase HQ IMO
Why were there alot of Taito games on Genesis that didn't see release in NA?
Cool video great classic game company. Didn't they do Heavy Unit too?
Developed by Kaneko and published by Toho
I can't believe you gave Chase HQ 2 a D! That's an excellent version of one of my favorite Taito games! It's a B for me.
Also really like Saint Sword, also a B.
As a contrast, I think Darius is boring so I don't like Sagaia, it's very average on the system with much better shmups.
i liked this video. I Hope you do more of these. I don't agree with some of your rankings but thats ok 😂
It should have been a crime that Bubble Bobble didn't get a Genesis/MD release.
How did you give Thunder Fox a “D” yet you recommended it as a solid game in Metal Jesus Rocks Hidden Gem Video?
Because opinions are fluid and develop over time, the trick is understanding one man's opinion on a topic is variable and not necessarily a ringing endorsement nor a condemnation and a game that sucks may be anyone's favorite
Any news about your museum?
No immortal John Hancock theme song for the video?! Jk bro good job as always, stay HIGH
John: I know u have a complete genesis collection do u also have all the megadrive imports as well? Im jus curious.
Nope just a us set.
Gotta get that space invaders 91 thanks John

No Bubble Bobble?
2:41 Holy epilepsy warning, Batman.
Wasn't the Sega Genesis Flintstones game by Taito
Never heard of space invaders 91. Mind blown
Hmm.. no Insector X? Wasn't that Taito?
Come on, only a B to New Zealand Story? I still play it regularly to this day...
Well he rated Thunder Fox a “D” yet it was in his and MJR’s Hidden Gem video where he said it was a solid hidden gem. So 🤷♀️
@@80skidjon17Eh everybody’s tastes are different
Rastan Saga II is deserving of your hate. Do not feel bad about it.
i agree almost everything except saint sword ive played it too the end and it was really good better than it looks i,ll give it an A everything else sounds good thanks bro.
Maybe I need to give it more time. Thanks for your response!
Man... How I hate Rastan Saga 2... The first one was so fun to play, despite the clunky controls... Everything in the second one was boring and poorly done. A D is a good ranking for that one.
@2:02 what was really said?
You should do this for NES games because I would like to know what your opinion is and you better not give Contra a B because I’ll be real sad, lol
I beat Rastan II on Taito Legends and thought it was all graphics with sluggish gameplay. One of Taito's few misfires.
Wow... how strange.. Rastan Saga is one game I like a lot..
Sagaia is pronounced Sah-Guy-Ah, and it's pretty much an original version of Darius
Immortal John Hancock.. will you have intellivision games in your museum?.. I have 53 sealed games (intellivision).. let me know if I can contribute
Intellivision will be represented. I am nearing a set of 125.
I believe it’s pronounced TAAIII-TOOWW!
A shame PAL didn't get most of these. 😢
Can u please do a Electronic Arts ranking please
Isn't it Sa-ga-ya, like Gaia from Captain Planet...
Yes, I think that's how it should be pronounced.
Flintstones is pretty great.
Good video! Games not really ranked though, just scored in a random order. That is all.
They are ranked using tiermaker. I put a thumbnail in the video midway through and and the end of the video.
Oh ok, I stand corrected. Never heard of tiermaker.
I been playing Rainbow Islands on NES. I like the cheat codes the AVS. It's a great console.
Uh... John? Where's Rambo III ?
Sega of America was the publisher.
Mystical Fighter is awesome
saintswod ı think better than cadash. great artwork of these games.
i liked cadash i had it and beat it i also had rastan saga 2 and beat it too but i also thought it sucked it the arcade version of the first game was waaaaayyyyyyyy better
Rastan Saga II is D tier? Straight up F for me.
Every time i watch Ranking videos i don't know what are the letters mean.
I always pronounced it Quix ;)
wow...not a single Bust A Move on the Genesis.
Haven't heard of half of these ...
Yeah this is kind of John Rigg's baby. The least you could have done was give a shout out.
It is mentioned in the description
And I thank him in the video. Riggs and I are good friends and we collaborate on videos.
Good to see you made it to the end of the video.
Always nice to see when you tubers give each other credit. Love the channel.
Got nothing positive to say kinda keep it to yourself. John always gives credit where its due
Why collect Bad games ?
Also give us a grading criteria. I liked this game I gave it a B? Based on what?😂
GReat video man, and I agree Rastan Saga II is fucking terrible, I bougt it thinking it was gonna be fun and it was 100% the exact opposite, lol.
Taito
