@@tmac77 You wouldn't have believed it. I remember Lawson and Mamola coming through the campsite to an evening grass track meeting on the Saturday night. The look on Lawsons face when he saw the antics was incredible.LOL.
I saw him race many times. And I remember him signing a copy of his autobiography for me. He signed it with such enthusiasm like I was the very first person to have ever asked him. Top racer. Top gentleman. Fankerton are I'm sure very proud.
Your Dad smuggled me , Stew Ray , Willie McKay and Ian Walker into Donny’s VIP section years ago , in the back of his van ,for the Moto GP . We then got blootered and thrown out by security :) He started us of on one of the funniest weekends ever !
top man your dad, followed his career so awesome to race the 500cc 2 strokes. and will always be a memory at a donnington track day 2004/05 at lunch break he was taking pillions but he was on a honda hornet, my gf was booked to be a pillion and i asked him if he would take her on my bike a gsxr1000k4 which he duly did. she loved it wheelies full length of start straight. lol

Nae central heatin', frost on the inside of the window, I remember it clearly. Sounding like the four yorkshiremen here, "You try telling that to the kids today...."
Brilliant interview. I remember his first races at Knockhill in the early 80’s winning on his LC350 against the big boys on GSX 1000s in the end of meeting handicap races. Rain or shine he always did it. I remember Jim Anderson who raced for Shirlaws of Aberdeen standing with us and saying that boy is going all the way boys. How right he was. Legend.
Met your dad at Donnington park and he was really kind to my son who asked for his autograph. Really grounded and a really nice guy and a very talented rider.
You’re dads awesome, a real character. I was at motogp Silverstone a few years ago and he moved so my son and I could see the race at the from the front of the BRDC stand. Touching gesture. I hope you have a great season, you deserve it.
Best video yet. I’m the same age as your Dad so when he starts talking about fizzies, honda 50’s etc it takes me back to when i still had hair! I didn’t go the fizzie route but waited until i was 17 and bought myself a Suzuki GT185. I’d love one of them again one day!!
Gents, this has been brilliant to watch and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Niall's dits. Please make this a regular feature throughout the year as l ( and no doubt plenty of others ) will definitely tune in again. Taylor, I hope it all pays off for you and we see you out there racing again this year, in the meantime keep up the good work.
Excellent video Taylor - The one that everyone has been waiting for! Remember being ringside at Snetterton in '98 as a 14 year old, watching your Dad and Hislop. Couldn't believe my eyes and can still see it now. Looking forward to parts two, three and four... Keep up the good work.
Your dads a legend could listen to his stories forever. The chat/ interview you your brother and your dad did at colin appleyards a few years ago was really good to😁
Great listening to you and your Dad Taylor, I reckon he opens up more talking to you which makes it really interesting. Always a fan of him, but the last time I physically saw him was when he spun out and crashed in a Lotus 7 at Brands with some poor punter on board... I think it was Graham Hill going onto the Cooper straight. 😆

Remember watching from late eighties, started with the Skoal RG (did he ride the Ciba Geigy cardboard frame bike?). GP years were great watching him especially battling on the Yamaha with Foggy on the Cagiva. I'm also thinking there was an Aprilia 250 ride? Finally the Boost YZF was iconic and I'm also recalling a Nescafe Yamaha (bike porn) ride? Niall Mackenzie bike royalty and all round ledge!
Absolutely brilliant, Taylor and Niall. Enjoyed so much. Thank you both. Used to love watching your dad on that Marlboro 500. Best era of race bikes there will ever be. And, yes I agree, Eddie Lawson was a very special rider. Many thanks.
Woooft, cool getting yur Da oan fer a wee chat......Bring him back.....Used to be up at Knockhill every other weekend watching him and loads of great riders, some destined for bigger stages, Brian Morrison, Hizzy, spring immediately to mind but even Eric MacFarlane, Howard Selby, Gordon Grigor, Ian Simpson, and others always gave a good account throughout British circuits in the 80s. Pro Am series was the berries too...Fab memories, keep em coming Niall.
I saw Freddie Spencer 18 years old first time racing outside America. After training and while racing he broke the outright lap record at Oulton Park on a TZ 750 Yamaha. After only 30 laps of the circuit.
Thanks Taylor, I was a massive Hizzy fan and for a few years back then your dad wasn’t my favourite person in the world. Would be interested to hear his take on that explosive season after all these years.
It was great when your Dad came to BSB from MotoGP, he proved what a Brilliant Rider he was and became a Superstar. So glad that you are posting these fantastic insights Taylor, you are part of an amazing Family, keep up the great work !!
Great video. I grew up watching your dad race. The Cadbury's Boost bike sticks in my memory, I have my picture with Naill at Knockhill in the early 90s.
More of them please, could listen to his stories all day. A real golden age for racing then too, stuff of legend. Mrs and father in law both read his autobiography and passed it to me, two chapters in and been in stitches. Top man, had the pleasure of chucking my bike into the gravel at Scotsman three mins from the end of the day at one of his track schools. Took the time to make sure I was ok (was wet, just slid, bike wasn’t ok though 🙈😄). A biker as well as a racing legend. 😎
Cant believe your grandfather was from Inverness. I re-wound it 3 times to check. My grandfather was born in Inverness 1906. I'm still here. Thanks for doing this. Enjoyed.
Totally enjoyed that Taylor, defo gotta do more of 'em, i remember helping your dad to his feet once when he was on the Cadbury Boost Yam..... Ps. I've never watched so many adverts in my life 👍...
Well... I did enjoy that, ive spoken to your Dad a couple of times in recent years. The last time I bored him was asking what it was like to ride a RG500 (my No1 Lotto bikeL) and then the YZR500s etc. It was a nice little chat, and I'm well aware he probably gets accosted by people a lot so I didn't want to keep him too long. So this is a nice vid. Be nice to see more of him. And err 2021 is looking up eh😉👍
Your old man got me into motorcycles! I was on a warship in the middle of the gulf and a family friend sent me out a video tape of your Dad on a boost Yamaha with steve hislop as his team mate. After watching the Bsb races, i came home and immediately took my test and i have been riding ever since. I wish you all the best for the future and thank your dad for the inspiration. 👍
Your dad was my favourite rider growing up. This was a great watch! It’s great to see you and Taz racing around now as well. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
I remember your dad when he was a very young guy living in fankerton. Used to love going down to his garden and watch him tinker with his bikes. I also remember when your dad n his mum mobed out of fankerton to stoneywood and his mum gave me his dressing table from his bedroom i remember it well the mirror was plastered in racing stickers 😊. I also still to this day have a very large print he gave to the fankerton hut and they were going to throw it out so i took it home and had it framed and kept it to this day. Im sure it was when he just signed with honda. He signed it aswell so i still treasure it to this day 😃
Fabulous interview, Taylor - I love listening to all those old stories. I'm a couple of years younger than Niall but I too fondly remember my 50cc Moped days in 1981, aged 16. Also living on a council estate, with not a pot to pi** in, I saved my paper round money, weekly pocket money, Birthday and Christmas money, etc, etc for months and months and months so I could buy a used Yamaha Fizzy. The budget was so tight, I bought my helmet from Argos!! I can't wait for the next interview vid.
Taylor this is absolutely fantastic. Definitely need more chats with him. BSB stories and how he felt about you and Taz getting into bikes and winning races and titles. Love it!
Thanks Taylor that was brilliant ! 👍 more, more, more - got to love your dad, I've got his autobiography, but learnt more watching this 🙂 Really missing the racing ....
Great video ‘ more of the same please ‘ I watched full gp from Jerez in 92 where your dad came from a long way back to get third place ‘ great memories
This is great, thanks. Wish I still had Donninton '89 on film still. Always remember Murray Walker shouting "And look at that, Niall McKenzie leads the British Grand Prix...but for how long?" Think the tyres were cooked chasing Rainey and Schwantz but anyway, as fast as them if given the chance with same bike and tyres😎👌
Would definitely tune in to watch more of Niall's banter. Also have very fond memories of the Fizzies, SS50 & AP50's and the freedom they offered when I was 16, then the 250/350 LC's. Our family had three bike shops in the N/E Scotland around this era. All the best, Martin.
Hi Taylor, Thanks for doing that video with your dad, I could listen to those memories of the LCs and 500s all day, definitely need to do more of these as there great. Please keep them coming. 👍✊✊
All the bike racers of your dad's era were my heroes. I'd love to hear your dad's take on Steve Hislop. It's nice to see Niall looking fit and healthy. All the best for the future from Australia 👍
Respect from Canada ..back in 1988 TSN sports channel had F.I.M 500cc GP racing on first time seeing this Niall bumping fairings with Kevin on the Pepsi Suzuki classic racing been a fan and rider since ....
Taylor , although we know your dad through his extensive bike racing career , this interview was awesome , all he was talking about in his formative years I totally identify with , and that buzz that you had that addicted you to bikes for life through a moped is so true . Loved this vid so much
What a great interview! I’m sure you’ve heard it all before but for us(well me), it’s great to listen to. Your dad is such a good story teller. I look forward to the next one mate. I hope the ‘rona doesn’t get you too. Stay healthy!👍🏼
Wow! Taylor you have to do this again, I remember watching your Dad race with some of the very best in the world, and rightly so. This video brought back so many fantastic memories of the racing in your Dad's era. It was a fantastic time to be a spectator, a totally different environment than today. Great stuff! Really pleased you have a ride for 2021, really hope it works for you and leads to bigger and better classes!
Thanks Taylor, that was awesome! I first starting getting fit in the '90's. I trained to be a MTB racer. Needless to say, I had plenty of energy left at the end of a roadrace weekend. Altough the racebike was a good bit heavier to throw around...Lolol
Thats some good content, cool interview. Your Dad is a class act, i worked the 92 and 93 season in Grand Prix , big props to him since he had to work along side a bunch of french men and he survived :) . more please
Fabulous interview as always Taylor. You’re becoming the Michael Parkinson of the motorcycle world. I’m only a couple of years younger than your Dad and loved seeing him race. Listening to his stories and insights as a regular feature would be super 😃🏁🏍
Thanks for doing this. Had the pleasure of riding around silverstone with your dad last year and he was an absolute gent. Patient, happy to chat and really helpful 👍🏻
Just watched this and lived every moment. Being the same age as your dad it was all like a trip down memory lane. Loved it. This needs to be a regular as there is loads more to hear. Gratz on the Bathams ride.
Brilliant, hope there’s more to come,I’ve met your dad at various PR events,he’s always good for a laugh, always had time to speak to you, thought maybe it was it was part of his job to talk, but have met him twice in petrol stations when you and Taz were much younger coming back from Knockhill and we were on the bikes coming back up the road from somewhere south,he would still talk to you for ages, especially if you were Scottish, lovely down to earth guy, he always seemed to be driving a old silver VW,no big fancy car.
Loving the vids Taylor, the perfect antidote to lockdown and some cracking insight into riders views and behind the scenes info that is fascinating to hear. Must agree with everyone, the interview with your Dad was one of the very best so would be great to have this as a regular feature as I'm sure there are hours of stories we'd love to hear. Think a regular Mackenzie round-up through the season would be cool too, and some more Mad Mark would be most welcome when you have time!
Never forget how much everyone cheered for your dad at Donny in 88 and 89. Brilliant times.

Thats some good content, cool interview. Your Dad is a class act, i worked the 92 and 93 season in Grand Prix , big props to him since he had to work along side a bunch of french men and he survived :) . more please
Bloody awesome you have made me so happy thank you to you both.
Thank you Ian!
Fabulous interview as always Taylor. You’re becoming the Michael Parkinson of the motorcycle world. I’m only a couple of years younger than your Dad and loved seeing him race. Listening to his stories and insights as a regular feature would be super 😃🏁🏍
Haha, thanks so much Al
Excellent interview Taylor, please keep it a regular thing. Love yer old mans tales esp his assesment of his comtemporaries. Graet stuff :-)
Thanks Roger
Thanks for doing this. Had the pleasure of riding around silverstone with your dad last year and he was an absolute gent. Patient, happy to chat and really helpful 👍🏻
Thanks so much Simon!
Brilliant 👍😁 hope to see you back together soon !
Thanks Thomas!
Wow, your dad is a fountain of knowledge 🤯👍🏻🏴
Cant wait to catch up soon 🤞🏻 (Knockhill) or track day. Awesome stuff Taylor 🙌🏻🍻
Thanks Derek!
Good one you could do a series of mac chats 🏴👍 I bet you’re dad has got a few stories
I think we will!
Just watched this and lived every moment. Being the same age as your dad it was all like a trip down memory lane. Loved it. This needs to be a regular as there is loads more to hear.
Gratz on the Bathams ride.
Thank you David! There’s another interview coming soon
Brilliant interview .Being from N.Ireland I would like to hear about his road racing days
Thank you, I’ll definitely ask someone questions on it
Brilliant, hope there’s more to come,I’ve met your dad at various PR events,he’s always good for a laugh, always had time to speak to you, thought maybe it was it was part of his job to talk, but have met him twice in petrol stations when you and Taz were much younger coming back from Knockhill and we were on the bikes coming back up the road from somewhere south,he would still talk to you for ages, especially if you were Scottish, lovely down to earth guy, he always seemed to be driving a old silver VW,no big fancy car.
Thanks Thomas! Plenty more to come
Loving the vids Taylor, the perfect antidote to lockdown and some cracking insight into riders views and behind the scenes info that is fascinating to hear.
Thank you James, plenty more Mac Chats coming!
Great idea, love people’s background history/stories 👍
Thanks!
Brilliant chat taylor, loved it
Thank you!
Cannot wait to watch this tomorrow.
It’s a good one Ben!
