James J. HILL was an important railroad owner based in St. Paul, Minnesota. I believe his railroad was the Great Northern which went across the northern most part of the USA. His mansion is a huge home on Summit Avenue which is where the wealthy people built their mansions in St. Paul.
You omitted one important Gould, Jay Gould's son Frank. It was Frank Jay Gould who started buying all the land that he could on the not well known parts of the French Riviera; built hotels and casinos: and led the way into turning it into what the Riviera is today. He also made a sizable fortune out of it, too.
O and im a member of the Allen family as in Ira and Ethan Allan as in the battle of Tioga master masons and two of the founders of the state of Vermont and built the city of Burlington in Vermont !😮
I am a Gould but not one of the rich .My parents came from England to South Africa .My father after the war had no job after the .World war 2. Now we have very little family left.I amonly have my brother and sister living here
i belong to the Gould’s my grandma is charlotte Gould we can trace our family back to 1105 with Sir Robert Gould known as Robert the crusader! And that’s no BS folks that’s an old family lmao !😂
We’re working on a Trump video, probably will be on the “old money or new money” style. The Trumps were not in the USA during the Gilded Age, they are descendants of German and Scottish immigrants
I'm not Canadian but I would like to know why Canada didn't experience a similar Gilded Age as in America? Later to develop? The extent of British control? Anyway, were there any equivalent super-wealthy Canadian dynasties of note?
Great question! Yes British control and economic circumstances (Canada was more agricultural during the 1870s-1900s) had a lot to do with it, but we are working on developing some Canadian family videos such as the Westons and the Bronfmans
good question. i'm wondering the same for my smaller country (the Netherlands), i feel like here in Europe there was a lot of more government control which didn't even allow to let such a gilded age happen. It was all established in a group of powerfull people already
@@keepwondering_ Yes, and today you have the same powerful groups working behind the EU and NATO, controlling events at a supranational level which is affecting the national interests of countries in Europe. Not just smaller countries; look at Germany and France which are both experiencing economic decline. The real power resides in Washington DC, London and Brussels. I'm from New Zealand and like Australia we are affected by policies at a supranational level, emanating from Washington DC and London.
I very often ask myself how much is enough ? It is really not ok to flurish on the expense of others when it is their existance you were able to amass these riches. I hate people exploitation.

Grandfather wasn't evil, just convinced the President to redo the monetary system to buy all the gold up..and then the railroads.. but the money was gone by the time my grandpas dad was born
COMMENT: Which Gilded Age “old money” family would you like us to feature next on this channel?

How about the Pritzker family
Phineas Banning
Have you already done one on the Cecil Rhodes family? Through De Beers, they only control about 65% of the world's diamond supply...

I would love for you to do the Trump family. I’m not kidding. What were the historical links to the Gilded Age? I wonder.

Funny how a crook can be 'complex'.
Kingdon? Really? LOL. What next, naming your kid "Emperor"?
😂
When you are that rich, it doesn’t really matter what he names his child.
George Gould’s wife’s maiden name was Kingdon.
He lost a huge chunk of the inheritance
WHO Am I BTW.......
$71B in 2024 ain't much compared to about a dozen >$100B barons.
LOL😂 K
