as a direct result of Lieberman's actions, the Public Option of Obamacare, designed to incentivize insurance companies to control their costs, was removed. We ended up with the worst of both worlds, a mandate to pay for health insurance, without the competition of a Public Option to control costs. I consider Lieberman one of the most disgusting senators to have served in the Democrat party.

I liked Joe. I campaigned for him in Maine in 2000. We did an event in Bangor and really got to know him. Was good at seeming to be a nice person. But he is the reason we didn’t get a Public Option in the Affordable Care Act. He did much to thwart the party that elected him VP; until the SCOTUS performed a Coup d’ Etat for Bush. His legacy is appalling for middle class America. He betrayed those for whom he professed to speak.

Don't get me wrong; this is an awful personal tragedy and my sincere condolences to his loved ones. But politically, Joe Lieberman had been part of the problem for a long time. First, his morally priggish centrism helped cost Gore the election by bringing nothing to the ticket. Second, his inability to change after multiple 21st-century crises led him to the same delusion he helped foster when he ran with Gore -- that both parties are the same.
There is no honest excuse to front for No Labels. It is a stalking horse for Donald Trump funded by GOP megadonors, full stop. As honorable as Joe Lieberman might have been in his personal life, politically he was a knife in the heart of the Democratic Party.

Especially as to your focus on THIS ONE MAN. There were dozens of republicans who were against a public option, or any other policies. Just because people disagree with you, and even act against your desires, does not make them bad people. At least, he took action for his beliefs, unlike you who are steeped in idiocy here on RUclips. It's not 'his respect' - it's about realizing we are all individuals, and none of us are perfect - certainly not you!

I've never met Joe Lieberman, and he very well may have been as a nice person who was good to his staff and his family. He should rest in peace.
But his fervent support of the Iraq war, long after many of his fellow Democrats abandoned it, seriously discredits him as a public official in my mind. He did as much as anyone in Congress to support a policy which led to the destabilization of Iraq, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of American soldiers, over what fundamentally turned out to be a lie.
I don't think he ever recanted that position or said the war was a mistake: even after Abu Gharib, even after a government supported by Iran was elected, even after the insurgency and the fighting between Shias and Sunnis, even after Nisoor Square, even after the rise of ISIS, etc.
Anyone who supported that war and especially those that didn't recant their support has a stain on their legacy.
