This is a detailed explanation of the abdominal examination illustrating technique and patient interaction.
The film was produced by practising clinicians to aid the teaching of clinical examination skills. It starts at the point when the clinician has finished taking the medical history and begins the clinical examination.
Presented by Mr Adam Scott MS FRCS (Edin) FRCS (Eng) Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon. Produced and Directed by Dr Irene Peat FRCR FRCP, Dr Nicholas Port MBChB BSc and Jon Shears.

I'm impressed by the kindness and care he displays. Asking for permission, saying thanks, saying "good." I would feel very comfortable seeing him.
Standard of care.
That’s standard for doctors. Otherwise the patient would get red in the face.

Love this video so relaxing
Really informative. And the doctor relaxes me and kinda creeps me out at the same time. And yeah like my doctor would ever perform such a thorough exam...though they should.
Why does he creep u out

Such a great video! I love the explanations you give to go along with the examination.

There is another one better than this.
Love this man’s voice, it’s so relaxing
Very informative. .Thanks
I have to say, I am studying a nurse practitioner MSc through another University, and your videos are much more informative then the ones by the University I'm studying through. It makes me want to ask about your post grad medicine as a career alternative...

Excellent work.
If they did this right, the doctor and the patient should have ham that is BOILED at home, but I suspect they only had ham in packets that resemble razor blades to him at times
I like greenery. I grew up in a green place, and I just love to see the green extruding from the edges of my football-pitch shaped, non-triangular, pieces of bread

The doctor was going to, but he was a quiet man. An artist. A craftsman.
I don't think I ever had an exam this thoroughly!
You have. Mostly it's done quickly and simultaneously.
Since Dr. Gill has his own chanel could he get one too?
I have to admit that noticing viewers who came here for knowledge, not for asmr is an amazing event for me. I am very pleased to see your comments. Have a good day each of you
Thanks for the helpful video
But where is Mr. Jackson?
Why did the examiner start with the hands? Why not start from the head down to the toes?
Doctor: I'm going to feel your neck
Patient: Oh, daddy
Doctor: What?
Show me how you would use a comb
Brilliant!
Idk if I'm more relaxed by his gentle voice or turned on by how hands on he is 😂 I mean that respectfully
Ever a video subtitled in Spanish please. Thank you. Greetings from the Canary Islands.

Prior palpation... flexion of the legs was to be done
Abdominal palpation should always be done with knees slightly bent otherwise the abdominal muscles won't be relaxed.
Lol they never did that to me in hospital!
Shouldn’t one auscultation first before any of the palpation or percussions?
Yes you should

Doctor, you should use techniques such as these 1- Inspection, 2-Auscultation 3-Percussion, 4-Finally palpation, because using the percussion first irritation the bowel movement.
It’s not that deep son
Auscultation of abdomen is overrated and doesn't add much to exam except for in bruits and ileus
auscultation first before palpation in abdominal exam

The sequence is not right for abdomen. You auscultate before feeling.
KZY kzy not true. The general order for examinations is inspection, palpation, (percussion), auscultation
@@AmarHujan this is old rules as the video , now we need to auscultate before percussion or palpation since these maneuvers may alter the frequency of bowel sounds
Lacina Rowe
Ask patient to bend her/his knees, auscultate the abdomen first then palpate, by doing the palpitation first you wouldn't hear the real rate of bowl movement.
