To be honest, May and Manaphy's relationship is the best thing about this movie. May experiencing all the heartbreak and happiness of being a mother is both beautiful and tragic. The fact that most of it is conveyed through quiet, gentle moments and subtle expressions makes it all the more heartwrenching.
Fun fact, Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea still holds the record for the longest film (anime or not) in the Pokémon series, with a duration of 107 minutes or 1hr47min. The Detective Pikachu live-action movie, which is the second-longest, fell just 3 min short of that record...
I believe that it is because this movie had several slower, quieter moments, which most of the more recent films lack. I am not including Detective Pikachu in that statement because I still have not watched it.
This song reminds me of the closest I've ever felt to girlfriend type love in my entire life, it was early 08, and my friend Harriet (1989-2008) had invited me over to her house. This was airing on YTV that day, and we sat on the couch, with a Lugia pillow and a hand-knitted afghan blanket that Harriet's mother made, and we watched this movie together. It was me, Harriet, her cat Scorpius on Harriet's other side and the TV and the surround sound with this movie playing. The feeling of happiness I felt for the first time when I was cuddled up to Harriet while watching this entire movie is unexplainable. I used to get picked on heavily in school both for being blind and for liking Pokemon during a time when it was uncool (2002-2005) and Harriet was the person who helped me open up, as she, a British immigrant to Canada was a bit of an outcast herself as she was different than the other students. She was the first person in middle school to truely except me for who I am, a blind kid with aspergers who has a life long love of pokemon. So you can imagine how watching Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea cuddled up to Harriet and her cat Scorpius made me feel happiness like I never felt before. We never did anything sexual, but it was just that cuddling and the fact that she invited me over to watch this movie with her that made me so happy. Oddly enough, Harriet and I were never put off by the voice change, she knew a lot about anime so she had guessed the dubbing people had changed. This is the same personwho got me into Haruhi Suzumiya after all. Sadly, on June 26 2008 Harriet lost her life in a car accident while being a designated driver for a graduating friend of ours. Now when I watch this movie, I remember that warm happy feeling I felt when that English girl and that blind kid with aspergers cuddled up together to watch the 9th Pokemon movie. Because of this movie, I got to experience a feeling I have never since felt, and that feeling is the feeling when a non-family member truely loves you. I wish i had realized Harriet's feelings for me while she was still alive. R.I.P. Harriet (1989-2008), I miss you. I hope wherever you are they have Pokemon and that you cought a Manaphy for yourself, along side your favorite Pokemon Moltres.
I'm sure your words and feelings reached them. Thank you for telling your story. Your emotions transcend the text and go farther than you'll ever know. They touch many on a level beyond comprehension and with that strength you will change the world. Keep fighting for love and the future my friend. What held true then holds true now. Those memories are yours and make you who you are. Writing this for us all to read is such an honor and for that I thank you. You're going to make it far~
I watched it for the first time yesterday. My first thought when it got to the climax was how Ash didn’t do shit in the movie and then he ends up being the hero
That's why I'm glad the fanfiction Ashes of the Past fixes that issue. Spoilers for it follow: May gets the power of the Sea Crown and uses it to curbstomp Phantom's power armor.
2020 anyone? Edit: After 25 years, the 10 year old from pallet town finally achieved his dream of becoming a Pokemon Master. Inspiring 3 generations of children to strive & become the very best like no one ever was. Thank you Ash & Pikachu! Edit: My childhoods are literally on life support. One Piece & Pokemon Black & White remakes/sequels are the only things remaining. He was my most prominent childhood inspiration. He inspired 2 generations of children to never stop believing and to be the very best like no one ever was! So long Ash & Pikachu, I'm glad I chose you!
It's been years since I've watched this movie, and I don't know why I suddenly thought about it today. About two months has passed since my dog passed away and I miss him so much, but hearing this song patched my heart up a little. Cheers to our real life little pokémon 💗💗💗
This song reminds me of my friend that moved away around 5 years ago, I haven't spoke to her since because we had no contacts/phones but I still feel like someday I will see her again
I just watched this movie last night, and I didn't know what to expect, but I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would! I loved the story, the visuals and this soundtrack. I did find it interesting that this movie was mostly May/Manaphy centric, but still made Ash the hero at the end, lol. Overall I give it a 9/10.
In all pokemon series and movies this movie took my heart❤❤❤❤The relation between May and Manaphy....... Ash being hero in the end...... Jack's past.... The blue see temple..... And ofcourse 😂😂Team rocket and finally Jack and that phentom🤧❤️😂😂😂... Will always remember this movie... It mafe me cry so hard

Call it a coincidence or whatever, but her name was actually May. It hurts so much without her... She was my shining beacon of hope through all that life threw at us. She was also a massive Pokémon fan, and loved the franchise to death, especially the movies. Funnily enough, she didn't really like this one... Her favorite was Rise of Darkrai. RIP, you absolute legend... 1992-2021. I'll always remember you.
