  • Born in 1908 in Northern Ireland, Sarah Donaldson answered the call to become a Sister of Mercy, apart of the Mobile, Alabama community in 1929. She took the name Sister Mary Aidan. At the time of her death in October 2011, Sister Mary Aidan was the oldest religious in the world --aged 111.
    In this oral history interview, Sister Mary Aidan talks about her decision to become a Sister of Mercy. She also discusses her crossing to the United States, her time in the novitiate, and her experiences in the education field.
    This interview was conducted by Sister Sue Weetenkamp, RSM. It is apart of the Sister Sue Weetenkamp South Central Oral History Project.
