- If you have played The Battle Cats within the last year, then you definitely have heard of Courier Cat. Courier Cat is a rare cat that you get by beating Behemoth Stone stages and hatching an egg, but Courier has had quite the reputation within the community. This video attempts to explain why Courier Cat was the most controversial unit of 2022, if not in the history of the game!

@@Under-Cat1937 behemoth stones. You can grind them out when you find hidden stages in stories of legend and stuff like that
@xenoverse7526 clear 5 unique stages in any of the following stages: Ashvini Desert, Hidden Forest of Gapra, or Jinforce Volcano. You then claim the egg from the Catnip Challenges and then evolve it with Behemoth Stones obtained from Hunter's Map (through enigma stages) or the previous 3 maps.
Jinforce is the only way to get yellow Stones prior to UL, so mushroom & Gas Mask can be rough to get. Don't bother with Catarzan (it just doesn't have the stats for its job) or Surgeon (basically useless).

I can understand why he's controversial, as he removes a substantial amount of the difficulty of early and mid game, but as a late game player myself, I just think he's funny. I love that he's a courier too, because that implies he delivers a message, and boy does he! That message being "Fuck You" to all red and behemoth enemies.
As I’ve been in the late game far before courier’s introduction, I just sort of pegged it as a power unit you get in the later half of the game along with the advent units. I had not realized just how early people can unlock it, and I see just why its so unbalanced.

I was like sol 40+ when courier was added , so pretty close to the late game. It was actually crazy how much easier some of the earlier 2 star and 3 star stages were with it especially after beating an ancient curse. I also thought it was crazy how early you can get it because I would think you would need to atleast have Lil nyadam or Mina but alot of people can it get in itf 2.

Courier is good and all, but it's kind of at the point where courier isn't fun to use. It feels like more of a requirement than anything.
Yeah, especially in the most recent content. Mining Epic is quite literally "Courier spam or die" until you get enough Epic Behemoth Stones for Naala's TF, and the Luza stages aren't much better off either.
I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. Courier spam goes insanely hard.
You know Ponos made an error when the most powerful behemoth units on both sides are still Courier and Wild Doge... even after the release of Big Monke.
3 times a day, I sacrifice a goat to courier cat so they may stay strong, and not be nerfed. He is In everyone of my loadouts, and he blesses me with wins. Every month, I also sacrifice a ponos staff member to him, so they fear him, and will not nerf him. All hail courier cat.
Personally I think Subtraits like Behemoth and Collosus should work a lot more like normal traits so we can have behemoth/collosus Slowers, freezers, weakeners, etc...
Well the whole thing with behemoth/colossus is that they are add-ones, making units stronger, but not add like more chances to freeze for different cats, and you can always target like red and freeze a red behemoth

Behemoths tend to be immune to some debuffs. Like how both black behemoths are immune to freeze as a counter to bomber. Which is funny because they gave Pumpcat a true form to be a behemoth slayer, and its ability is freezing blacks

I personally think that the Aku Updates were the best thing this game has added in a while
When Akus were first introduced there wasn’t a unit day one that destroyed the entire trait which made them more unique and fun
But with behemoths, we had courier from the getgo. Which equates to extremely unnecessarily powerful behemoth enemies which live up to a unit instead of the other way around.

Courier, is god like of a unit. But the fact that its the reason why some behemoth stages are absurdly difficult is painful. It really is a double edged sword of a unit.
We saw with Bombercat what effect a unit that strong has on design space. After Bombercat released, Black became an almost irrelevant trait up until mid-UL when we got Ragin’ Gory to at least force something else to be used… which is now countered entirely by Courier. Bombercat is the reason why every Black Behemoth enemy has Freeze Immune and Courier will probably be the reason why we won’t see more Red Behemoths for a long time. The UL Legends sorta disrupt the design space for Relic Behemoths too since their effective stats are just that strong, especially Naala and Luza and it’s probably going to be a while until we see another relevant Relic Behemoth. I don’t have a problem with Courier being a strong option for new players, but his effect on design space is apparent. If they want a relevant Red Behemoth, they’ll either have to change Courier or make the enemy stupidly strong to the point where Courier doesn’t mean an instant win.
The problem at that point is if Courier starts to struggle then most non B/C Slayer units in general will begin to struggle harder due to B/C Slayer being an ability instead of a trait.

If even Courier's insane brute force weren't enough to beat your hypothetical busted Red Behemoth, we would be in big trouble.
Keep in mind that most Behemoths have immunities to certain forms of crowd control*, which means that brute force is often the only way to win. So either your busted Red Behemoth has no relevant immunities (which would break this trend PONOS wanted to go for), or we get another busted Red Behemoth destroyer unit (which would just lead to a vicious cycle of uninteresting powercreep designs).

Ponos is going to realize their mistake one day and add a new restriction called "Courier level limit"

i basically went through the 7 stages of grief with courier except without depression lmao

When new updates come out I sometimes forget that early game players can go into some of the new content such as the Aku Realms or some event stages, and im happy that we all can enjoy new content on new updates

I unlocked Courier Cat right as I beat ITF1. Since then (around 2 weeks ago?) I have gotten full treasures on ITF3 and unlocked both Ururun and Nyandam (before getting Courier I had just reached Castle of Fish). He is cracked beyond cracked. While I do admit it feels really nice to watch him break the game, it's also really sad because the fun of battle cats is the ability to do whatever the hell you want while designing a lineup and strategy. The meat of the game's replay value lies in the chance to try all sorts of insane combinations of units and making it work. Courier broke all that. There's a difficult looking red enemy? Courier time! There's an irritating Behemoth? Courier time! It's absolutely ludicrous and proves beyond doubt that PONOS has no sense of what balance means. That's why the eggs are all either dogshit or amazing with no in between. Does anyone even remember Surgeon? Racquet? Remember when Dark Lazer was the hot new thing? Those units have been shunted to the backline all because Courier exists. If you have Courier, why would you want anything else? Dark Lazer is among the only units that has kept her place in the red meta since courier debuted, and that only because she was already broken herself! It's ridiculous!

@@thegamingduck2305 which is offset by her monstrous DPS and Late UL stage design in general, focusing more on a handful of strong enemies rather than one strong enemy with a constant stream of support and peons. Also, her multihit kinda serves as a pseudo-aoe. And not to mention her weaken has >100% uptime. I had her for a long time, and until recently, my Roe was just 30+something. Because she was just... a better Roe.
So, I actually don’t think that power creep is necessarily a bad thing in games. A lot of times, when you finally gain either a significant power boost or a very powerful unit, it gives you a sense of progression outside of the typical “clear the next stage” progression. Being able to go back to previously challenging areas/stages and being able to clear them with ease gives you that same feeling of increasing your character’s level in an RPG and being able to take out more troublesome enemies more easily. That being said, I think the one single issue I have with courier is that you can unlock him too early. I personally think that no egg units should be able to be obtained until after clearing SoL and that said units like courier and mushroom would help you more easily clear 4 crown SoL stages and the newly unlocked behemoth stages. Since I personally had cleared every SoL 4 crown stage and had cleared every UL 1 crown stage up until the update behemoths were added, courier felt more natural and a way to make mindless grinding for things just a bit quicker as well as a consistent unit I could use as a main attacker against behemoth. But for someone who had just cleared itf, I can definitely see how a unit like courier would ruin the balance of earlier stages and would trivialize the mid game.
It's quite a shame that patches don't happen since it would have been nice for this amount of power to be more evenly shared with the other Cat God-awful egg units (Catarzan, surgeon, racquet, firefly) while sacrificing some of his own damage to not be a crutch

@@stefperb9531 Yh but that's just one specific case, courier is way more versatile than catarzan because of better stats, which sucks because all catarzan needs is just like, 2000-3000 more damage to truly be the better option against aliens, also, his price is awful. 930 cents and having worse stats does not help him.
The fact that there's a strat that only revolves around Research Courier for Mining Epic(an absurdly stupid stage if you have no UL Legends TFs yet) should set an image on how good he is. And it's not even hard to replicate the strat that Chillhola used coz he isn't using cats with + levels that shoots up to the moon. Lvl50 is something everyone can achieve especially when they're at that point of the game.
Courier's existence just makes me lose it. He's so broken it's ridicoulously funny

Courier is a bit overrated sometimes, but yes, they shouldn't have made him that broken. I got him in itf 2 in my alt account and everything got much easier. And yes, ponos knows how broken he is, like you said,he's the main reason why nowadays so many behemoth enemies are disgustingly buffed in end game

Courier is 100% op and allows for things like Killing hannya before the first R.Ost even gets to you, courier practically outclassed cyborg and camera for general usage and it's kinda insane

@@impracticaI Because they're not designed to do this exact thing, instead serving other specific roles: Camera as a ranged meatshield, and Cyborg against Winged Pigge as well as some Toxic enemies (with her Toxic Immunity Talent).
Also, as general-purpose spammable attackers, Camera and Cyborg are both faster to stack up _and_ easier to maintain a stack of due to their slower, safer movement speeds (plus points to Camera for her Survive ability). This can sometimes give them the edge over Courier.
If you want to talk about Professor A. counters: Roe can tank him for days, and you can get in additional chip damage from A. Bahamut and Manic Island as well. In fact, Roe's Weaken support is the only reason Courier is even remotely usable against 200% Professor A.s (e. g. in I'll Be Bug).
I understood just how broken courrier cat was when i managed to unlock lil dragon by spamming courriers instead of the normal strat of A-bahamuth timing, since i sucked at i, but courrier just anhiliated those dragons
I’m in the very late game and I love courier because it is so strong. It is in basically all of my 4 crown lineups. The grind is coming to an end and courier is very helpful to have

Whats funny is Ancient Egg N107 looks like its going to be even better. Has base 10k damage, massive damage against zombies, soulstrike, and a 30% to a miniwave.
I am honestly baffled that PONOS just straight up did not nerf courier, but made the Behemoth enemies stronger.
So courier cat is much better than every other Egg unit? Let's make the behemoths stronger to match courier, making the other egg units even MORE useless.

Yeah absolutely, behemoths just lacked any enjoyment from that point. Not a great move from ponos, other egg units are obsolete due to courier and it wouldn't hurt to revert the changes and nerf courier

Ponos doesn’t like directly changing stats after they’ve been made, but they have made some exceptions before and they should really make an exception now just to nerf courier
As someone who’s unlocking manic cats(and some deadly stage advent cats) at the moment having almost every guide include either courier in the lineup or immediately seeing him either as the first recommendation kinda makes me feel forced to get him, which is something I didn’t want to do cause behemoth enemies as a whole are a pain in the ass, and I’ve beaten some stages that have him as the main carry with other cats(not Ubers), I kinda got derailed of my original message but what I think is that courier definitely needed to be blocked for mid and early game, just as behemoth culling levels because he ruins mid game and early game players since they rely entirely on courier and stop leveling up other cats that will be helpful or needed later
I think Courier is op and I’m happy because I’ve been able to cruise through deadly advent and sol. He was good for me because I came back to the game after a year break and he served as a “progress booster”.
Unlike other people I haven’t been held back yet because I have all of the essential rare and super rare tfs. When courier doesn’t work it’s quite shocking and then I actually have to strategize.
It’s not wrong to add courier in BC, but IT IS wrong to put him as the first reward for defeating behemoth stages… so OP
I personally didnt even know courier was such a controversial unit since i took a break from BC before the behemoth update but now knowing this im kind of happy not having him because even though i have broken ubers i want to have fun and not go to the meta units and ultra boost them like majority of the playerbase did probably because he is so broken thanks for making this video its a really pleasant surprise to see that someone covers how specific units change the game and the playerbase

I unlocked Courier when it came out, so I don't remember. But are the required stages so easy that you can deal with them by ITF2?
One thing about battle cats is that you can play any way you want to play. So even with my absolute disgust for courier, I just don’t use him. Though the power creep on early game id think ruins the fun, but that’s just my opinion.

PONOS should not be afraid to nerf game breaking units, such as courier
I finally sped through 4 star stories of legend with it. It’s definitely not perfect for every situation but it’s range of usability is amazing.
Courier goes in every single battle party for me, it basically replaced my level 40+2 cyborg cat and is now my primary ranged generalist. Courier destroys red bird and courier+gaia destroy black bird. My Courier and gaia are both lv39 and along with meat shields just tear through anything
Damn, I could've gotten courier forever ago. I've been avoiding any behemoth stages because I thought that all of them would be too much to handle.
I like the concept of a super strong enemy but having a free unit that can easily defeat it so your strategy has to be around keeping it alive to do its job but since you can just spam couriers it doesn't really work that good.
Honestly really disliked the entire solution-based aspect to Behemoths and any stages related to them, as it prevents a variety of ways to go against them besides buffed units and resulted in a ridiculously broken unit due to lack of consideration.( Mushroom Cat is most likely the balanced of all Ancient Eggs centered around Behemoths lol )
Doesn't help they aren't classified as an actual Trait and have tons of immunities, including Surge and Wave which makes most Cat Units that rely on those abilities for their main DPS/ utility almost unusable.( Awakened Doron is an example of this- won't even get to deal maximum damage to most of them. )
In short, they are Living Powercreep and an atrocious approach to higher difficulty.

Courier is basically a free kasa jizo that specializes in red.
I got courier cat only after ITF chapter 3. Why? Let me explain:
I was an early game player back then, and I really wanted to beat crazed lizard, but I couldn't do that because of my extreme XP lack and I couldn't upgrade my crazed whale even to level 15. At the same time, I coun't beat Woodlands Area 3 because the Wild Doge + Metal Hippo combo was impossible for me. Then, I asked in a random battle cats discord server, about how can I beat crazed lizard, and people said: "Use Bahamut TF". Thankfully, I cound easily rush ITF chapter 3 using my only elemental pixies: Mizli and Yamii. And I got Awakened Bahamut without getting all crazeds and courier! Eventually, Woodlands 3 and Crazed Lizard were absolute cakewalk. Then, it took me some time to beat 5 Behemoth Stages, and I got the egg. And I thought: "Wow I got a really good unit!". But then, I found out that I needed behemoth stones. And since I didn't want to beat Hunter's Maps, I decided to grind Woodlands Area 3. Eventually, it took me 15 days of grinding stones and getting courier cat (P.S. I upgraded the egg to level 40 before getting courier itself). So yeah, since it took around 3 weeks of playthrough to get this abomination, I can say that it is heckin hard to get courier cat.

Having created a new account, I beat SoL within 2 months, granted that that was with kasli the bane.

Back when i started, Behemoth’s weren’t even a thing, same with talents
I personally don't like using Courier and I mostly avoid using him. I completed the entire SoL without him, haven't used him in UL either. I am a 'No Ubers Main' and Courier plays exactly like an uber to me. I don't think I'll use Luza either when I get him since he's literally a no gacha version of a buster uber and I just don't like that gameplay.
I am usually against balance changes to this game because it makes guides irrelevant, but I strongly want Courier to be nerfed. I'd demolish his Time Between Attack to make him a more unique unit.

i dunno if you have matador cat ashvini 2 is a cakewalk cause if you stall long enough before hitting the base the black otters will stop spawning and then the rest is an endurance battle against ahujiro itslef if you survive long enoug the enemies will stop spawning but in gapra 4 you need to hit the base in order to kill the dangerous peons and untill you kill them the boss will be already super close to your base
Hit him with a 30% damage nerf and/or swap his egg placement with a later egg
They should have either locked stones behind eldrich forces or CotC 3

Seriously I have not had any trouble with the stage since I unlocked the unit. I honestly think it’s very unhealthy and it should’ve been locked behind more game progression.
If nothing else, it should’ve costed way more to unlock the true form, or have been one of the last eggs eggs that you get from missions

I remember brought Luffy and A. Bahamut on Realm of Carnage. But they're both useless because my suck timing, i just felt desperate that time and start sapaming randomly. But then Courier just accidentaly killed R. Ost and Hannya and i got bullet train.

it's broken for every enemy, not only red and behemoth lol, the LD is fricking broken
It should be way harder to get the egg for courier cat, and why does he only request 5 red stones and 5 purple stones to evolve? that's way too easy to get. The requisits should be way higher so you get this unit more in the mid-late game instead of getting him and destroying the entire early game without effort.
