  • This is my quick guide on how to carry out a fire alarm weekly test using a Kentec Electronics Sigma fire alarm panel and KAC manual call point.
    This is a non-addressable two wire (sav-wire) system with Apollo series 65 detectors and KAC manual call points. The process is very simple;
    1. You turn the user key into the enable position (don't lose the fire panel key!)
    2. Put your KAC call point test key into the manual call point to activate it.
    3. Reset your KAC call point by putting it back together.
    4. Once your MCP is activated the sounders will sound, check that they are in alarm throughout so they are functioning.
    5. Press silence alarms on the panel.
    6. Press reset.
    7. Put the panel key back to normal.
    8. Note down the manual call point you have tested and record any findings in the fire alarm log book.

    Just wot I wanted, nice & clear instruction. But can I ask ? Do you need to go to the alarm point to set the sounders off or can this be done on the panel. Wr have exactly the same panel as this.

    I really hope you see this message as I am at my wits end. I've had this exact panel installed a few weeks back and from day one it's omitting a high pitched sound and a low loud hum/buzz. I can hear it throughout the house behind closed doors. There is no escaping the sound. Do they all make this sound or is something wrong. I'm having a hard time backing my own corner with the guy who installed it and my landlord said to just ignore it. Also at night I can see a red light coming from zone 4 on the panel.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated

      Those panels do make that sound for some reason and I've noticed that sometimes the leds just light up dimly. Hope this helps.

    hi, a newbie here. We are currently testing the same fire alarm system used in the video. all tests goes well except that when smoke detectors were tested with smokes the LED indicator would light up but alarm won't activate. What could be the problem?

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      Yosef 618 before you performed the test are any led indicitators illuminated other than the green power?
      If not you might have a programmed disblement.
      Or the sounders might be incorrectly wired.
      Do they work at all?

    • @jonvars70
      @jonvars70 6 лет назад +1

      Dans the Engineer , thanks for the response. The "general fault" indicator LED is illuminated and also the 'battery fault" in the lower section because we tried it without batteries installed. Strobe lights and ringer are installed in NAC terminals while smoke detectors (with MCP) in Z1 and Z2 terminals . When the MCP is activated alarm would sound. But if individual smoke detectors are tested, alarm wont sound but the LED in the smoke detectors would light up. We are using Apollo series A65 Smoke detectors.

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      Yosef 618 there's no need to remove the batteries whilst testing this so reinstate them.
      So your sounders are not on the zones, they are dedicated alarm circuits on the alarm terminals?
      And when you test a smoke, does the panel fire LED indicator illuminate?

    • @jonvars70
      @jonvars70 6 лет назад

      Dans the Engineer. Fire LED in the panel did not illuminate, only the LED of the smoke detector...the smoke detectors we have do not come with sounders, should it have sounders along z1 and z2? If so, will it trigger alarm in the panel?

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      Yosef 618 no you do not need to have sounders on the zones. There are 3 variants of the panel in the video. 1. Standard conventional also known as 4 wire. 2. AlarmSense and 3. SavWire. Mine is a SavWire where sounders can go on the zones but also as separate alarm circuits.
      If your call points set off the sounders it tells me the panel is functioning how it should so either the smokes are not connected correctly or they are disabled. It is possible to make programmed disablements. Open the front door and it lists what programming can be done. Do you have any spare zones because you could try by swapping the affected zones with a spare zone to see what happens

  • @striketeam316
    @striketeam316 3 года назад +1

    Do you know by any chance why this model of panel would be having an intermittent power fault / general fault? The internal buzzer will sound on the box,then the fault will clear for a few moments,then start up again. It will go on like that for a few hours. Then stop completeley for a few hours,and then start again?

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  3 года назад

      A power fault can be a number of things. Either the battery, power supply unit or mains supply is faulty. It would be unlikely for the mains to cut out without anyone resetting unless there's a loose connection. The batteries could be loose or near end of life or the PSU could be playing up.
      It needs an engineer to attend to look through these things systematically and provide a solution.
      My instinct based on what you've said is it sounds like something is loose but I cannot stress how much an engineer and only an engineer needs to look at this.

    Hello there I have a MxPro 5 fire panel I need to isolate some detectors in a zone because of some maintenance work taking place do I need to disable outputs or inputs I know when I do a silent fire test I disable outputs for the bells or will disabling the zone be enough to stop the bells going off and Brigade being called.
    Many thanks

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      Dave Edwards hi. You need to disable the individual inputs so check what addresses of the devices you want to disable and disable them only but also I would cover them to prevent any contamination. You can disable the Zone but you want to limit how many detectors you disable and sometimes when you're disabled in the zone you're also disable in the sounders in that zone which you don't want to do. And remember you need to keep the disablement off but as little time as necessary because ultimately you don't have detection when you disable in those areas so you may also want to think about your fire precautions

    My system is showing a fault on the sounder and general system, what should I do to reset the panel?

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  3 года назад +1

      I highly recommend a fire alarm engineer attends to look at the fault. You won't be able to reset the panel without rectifying the fault.

      Sounds like the detector isn't connected correctly. If it has power (which clearly it does), it'll light up in fire condition but won't tell the panel. What detector is it and what protocol is it? Alarmsense, 2wire or 4wire?

    • @andrewcarolan7315

      No mate, loop are addressable panels. This is a conventional panel, so zones means circuits. Single run for each zone with EOL resistor.

    What to do, when buzzer is disabled

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад +2

      It needs to be enabled. You need to know when the panel is indicating an fault or fire (sounders may be faulty or disabled) otherwise you may not know. It is a basic engineer function but I am afraid that I am not going to provide any engineer functions as a panel can really be altered with by someone who isn't trained. By all means - contact Kentec!
