    I liked phantom menace and revenge of the sith but the whole midi chlorians didn't change the Idea of the force for me. It never made the force a product of science and never took the mystical principle away. I just looked at it as another way to show the existence of the force. Much like how people came up with scientific theories on the existence of God.

    I may have said it before on a Council vid, but I like Revenge of the Sith, but dislike the first two. Having said that, I still believe that the overall story behind the prequels is literally brilliant stuff, minus the amount of time spent on the trade federation in the earlier times. palpatine's plan, anakin's history as a slave, his desire to free his mother through power, fear of loss, obi wan losing his grip on anakin, everything on kamino, changing perception of the jedi council, obi wan playing detective in attack of the clones, etc. are really awesome conceptually. i honestly think that, had they been executed as well as the originals, they could've given them a run for their money (especially ROTJ because sometimes i actually prefer ROTS over that). the screenplay just lacked so much it's really a shame such an awesome story didn't get realized. gungans? come on. a trade federation as the villain? come on. emotionless jedi? why? it goes on and on.

      I hope they reboot them. If they were successful then we might still have gotten novels or comics from that time period with a Anakin or Obi Wan story. Rebooting probably won't happen for canon reasons but God I hate how that story was terribly executed. I even think it's up to par with the original trilogy for a story. Maybe even a better story. Just not executed as well as the originals.

      The amount of depth that Lucas goes into with the Political aspects of the Republic and what really lead to it's fall is brilliantly well thought out, but all of that stuff should of been backdrop to the other stuff instead of center stage.

      +Xavier Taylor I loved Revenge of the Sith, but there were some bad dialogue parts, like anything Mace Windu said. I thought the Phantom Menace started out terrific until we meet Anakin as a little kid. Liam Neeson's performance was terrific and wasted. Attack of the Clones was horrendous because Lucas didn't understand when to have dialogue and when not to have dialogue. Example, instead of having Anakin complain about Obi Wan being "critical" he should have shown more of their disagreements and when they complimented each other. This is something both of the Clone Wars animated series did well.

      Well technically, they did have a Clone Wars movie but it was just animated. I actually thought it was decent. Not amazing but pretty good.

    There is nothing wrong with the Midichlorians. They only are life forms that allow living being to communicate with the force. They are not the force. The force is still a big mysterious thing with lots of mystery and wonder. The Clone Wars showed this in several of the episodes. It makes sense that after thousands of years with advance technology that the Jedi would be able to use science to determine if someone has the potential for training.
    Now I don't necessarily believe that just having a high Midichlorian count means you become the most powerful Jedi by default. Training and discipline can be more important to a Jedi being strong in the force then just a high Midichlorian count. Despite Anakin having the highest, Obi Wan Kenobi, an average Jedi who had far more training and discipline was able to defeat Anakin. The training in the higher mysteries of the force are what make Jedi or Sith so powerful. Not just having a high count.
    The Midichlorians need to be there in the age of the prequels because it makes no sense that a society with that much technology would not have a scientific system to detect force sensitivity. Now there isn't really much need to reference them in Episode 7 because the advance knowledge of the Jedi might no longer be accessible like it was before to our force sensitive characters.

    • @noahfortner2
      @noahfortner2 9 лет назад

      Midichlorians reside in all living things, so it's still a matter of learning and connecting to the Force, not a matter of, "Well you don't have Midichlorians? Guess you can't be a Jedi."

    • @OfficialPeterFisher
      @OfficialPeterFisher 9 лет назад +1

      Noah Fortner Yes I believe in the canon all life forms have midichlorians. Some legends species did not I think.

    • @OfficialPeterFisher

      ScRreaMzESports Absolutely science can't explain the force at all. Only what is happening physically in the body when one is strong in the force.

    • @thepaperclipguy
      @thepaperclipguy 9 лет назад +1

      Peter Fisher It was set up that you communicate with the force via your thoughts and emotions. The force was beyond the physical, and you communicate with it with your mind. How do force ghosts exist then when ghosts don't have blood? Do they magically turn into the force itself? Rubbish. It doesn't make sense. The force is beyond the physical and you tap into that with your mind. Do christians talk to God because of their blood? No. It's their mind. It's beyond the physical. That's the whole point.

    the only way i can (arguably) stomach midi-clorians is after reading the Darth Plagueis book and the way they were explained and expanded on in that story. i view it like this: after the destruction of the Jedi order, the jedi understanding/perspective on midi-clorians and the force were lost along with it. Therefore there is no need to bring it up in TFA because that knowledge/perspective was lost years before ANH.

    Having an alternative name is a staple in the Star Wars universe. Palpatine and Sidious are one of the same. Padme and Queen Amidala, Ben and Obi Wan Kenobi, etc. so I would not be surprised to see this trope continue.

      ScRreaMzESports well in EPIII after the fight, the storm troopers told the emperor that they couldnt find his body, he said "then he is not dead, double your search."..!!! so he knew he was not dead .
      Sure he was searching for him all those years as he hunted down every last Jedi. But its a Huge galaxy you know, and he has a galactic empire he needs to rule ;) plus yoda was in a faar planet doing nothing at all. how can you find him when the guy has no act at all?

  • @jmjawors
    @jmjawors 9 лет назад +5

    I'm an old-school Star Wars fan who grew up with the original trilogy in the '70's and '80's. I think it's part of my DNA! But I also like the prequels, and midichlorians did nothing to change my perception about the Force.
    Midichlorians are a minor detail, included only to tell us that there was something different about Anakin. The Force is still a mysterious "energy field created by all living things that surrounds us and penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together." With midichlorians we know that the tie to the force is very deep - reaching us at a cellular level as well as the spiritual level. It's a strong connection.
    Critics of the prequels are certainly entitled to their opinion, but don't put words into the mouths of other Star Wars fans. This midichlorian "controversy," such as it is, really amounts to nothing. The only people who elevate the issue are prequel detractors. It's just not a big deal, and perhaps if it weren't taken so seriously by some prequel critics then we could all relax a bit and have fun with these stories that we love.

  • @TheBoondocksaint117

    I love the prequels as much as the orig trig, and I never had a problem with midi-chlorians. It always made perfect sense to me, and no one has ever been able to give me a good explanation as to why they hate it. I was reading the books as a little kid and it was established that only certain people were force-sensitive. That existed before the Phantom Menace, so the only thing that did was put a name to an already existing phenomenon.

    I predict that one of the climactic scenes of episode 7 will be the death of Han Solo.
    Scene: Amidst the chaos of battle, Han is dealt a fatal blow. He lies in Leia's lap as Chewie and others look on and fend off enemies.
    Leia looks down at him, knowing he's dying, smiles through teary eyes. Epic Star Wars music plays in the background.
    Han, witty till the end, and through pained words, jokes about their life together and how he always knew she'd be the end of him.
    Leia smiles as she cries and tells him he's still a scruffy looking nerf herder.
    Han looks at Leia, and says, "I love you"
    Leia smiles, tears running down her eyes, and replies in a shaky voice, "I know"
    Han smiles at that.... And takes his last breath.

    • @aqins806
      @aqins806 9 лет назад +1

      I think people care more about how Han dies or if he survives more than the actual scene. No matter how the scene is made it will be very emotional.

      Tim Remington I think a bigger emotional response would be had if Han died in Chewie's arms. Their friendship was always one of my favorite parts of the original trilogy. I'm a grown man, but I'd be in tears if that happened.

    To Emperor Harloff: Regarding Midi-Chlorians.. Star Wars has been a huge factor in my life growing up, probably more so now with things like Battle front, Force Unleashed, KOTOR etc. I enjoyed the prequels, mostly because it was my first experience seeing Star Wars on the big screen. The prequels aren't perfect, and neither is the original trilogy (Ewoks aka Care bears). Regarding midi chlorians, now when Qui-Gon was explaining that whole thing in Episode 1 it didn't bother me as much as maybe an older fan. As far as taking away from the "magic", I'm not sure I agree. It's Star Wars. Something as little as that shouldn't affect the way the saga is perceived. I'm fine with it not being acknowledged going forward but I also feel like it was important for it to be addressed at that point in the past so when 4 comes along the Force truly is a mystical presence cause the Jedi are wiped out etc.
    P.

    Many former Jedi survived the Purge however Yoda is still not wrong because technically he said no Jedi existed not no former Jedi existed. Everyone on Rebels could survive and Yoda's words will still be correct just as long as all Jedi are either dead, exiled, injured, resting, or went against Jedi teachings making them no longer Jedi. It's very easy to have surviving Jedi without hurting the story.

    What is often forgotten about Star Wars is that it was toys books and other merchandise that kept Star Wars alive. The first films came out at a time when video tape was just becoming accessible to the population but most films back then could not be shown on TV until several years after the film was shown in cinemas and even longer before it was available to buy on Betamax and VHS and often very expensive. If you wanted to see a film again you literally had to find a cinema still showing the film. What a remarkable time we live in for a fan next year I will be watching Star Wars the force awakens at home on Blue-ray.

    Guys, as I said in a previous post, the idea of midi-clorians as a bridge between physical reality and the mystery of the force is very similar to the work of two prominent physicists, Stuart Hammeroff & Roger Penrose. They've postulated that microtubules in human cells act a such a bridge linking us to what they called "Quantum Consciousness" - the collective universal mind we all share, aka (in Star Wars) The Force. If you've studied any of this type of theory and especially if you've been involved in meditative/contemplative traditions, either eastern or western, midi-clorians make sense!

    No one knows how Midi-chlorians interact with the force exactly... Midi-chlorians never weigh heavy on my mind. I probably would not even know the term Midi-chlorians if not for the haters. When I think about the force I tend to wonder what other kinds of cool powers people could get from it and how will it evolve in future films.

    Re: Starwars rebels - One part that makes me think there is no overlap from Rebels to Episode IV, is the preview for season 2 includes the A-Wing and B-Wing. Under Legends those fighters were portrayed as new models but under the new cannon they appear before we have seen a Headhunter let alone an X-Wing. This could easily mean the Rebellion is not centralized in episode IV, hence no appearance of them or their equipment in Episode IV but in the Episode VI Endor assault all the rebels are brought together.

      Ok the prequels are bad but wtf are you talking about? The original trilogy had Han and Leia (the couple) separately off doing something else while Luke was off doing another thing. Same thing with the prequels. Anakin and Padme (the couple) were mostly off doing something else while Obi Wan was off doing another thing. Still a group of characters to focus on. Even the emperor in 3 was very much more focused than other characters.

  • @jackbauer5636

    In defense of midi-chlorians:
    Part of the prequels were to show that Anakin's fall to the dark side was just as much the Jedi Order's fault as it was his own. Their fall came from the self-righteousness that assumed all feelings of passion were meant to be shut out. Their hubris extended to the claim that their technology and quantifying of the force through midi-chlorians was a viable way of assessing force prowess. When they ultimately fall, the shift in the original trilogy back to a more naturalistic view of the force is more powerful. Midi-chlorians show the presumptions and weaknesses of the Jedi in the prequels, and their notable absence in the originals demonstrate how a person's feelings and gut instincts, when interpreted correctly, can be much more valuable than a reliance on technology.

  • @XzaroX

    I love the prequels and I love midi-chlorians. You can argue that Jar Jar is dumb and you may eventually make me hate him, but you will never make me dislike midi-chlorians. Without them force is dumbed down to boring magic.
    I like having SCI in sfi-fi. I mean why aren't you bashing Marvel for stating that Asgardians aren't really gods and that their "magic" is basically just very advanced science? Technology is pretty advanced in the Star Wars universe, so why should they be completely ignorant about the force?

    The concept of Midi-Chlorians seems like it was just thrown in the script only as a means to quantify or measure sensitivity to the force. That is to show and prove that Anakin was the chosen one. He had the highest Midi-Chlorians count ever seen, even more so than Yoda. Therefore he had the potential to be the most powerful force yielder ever known to man.

    I really like the idea of midichlorians because it solves the mystery of why some people are stronger with the force than others. It ends debates on why little old yoda could defeat let's say a group of young physically strong sith.

    I love the prequels, and I used to have a problem with midichlorians, but not anymore. It didn't make sense to me that some mitochondria like creatures make the force, but I read that they were actually just indicators of it's presence. They develop in a person that has a strong connection to the force, that's all. That's why I don't hate the idea of the midichlorians anymore. My only problem is that I always confuse the words midichlorians and Mandalorians, but whatever :)

    I'm not a fan of any of the prequels - both Clone Wars shows are good. I could write a book, literally, but I actually don't mind the idea of Midi-chlorians. That is purely because of the novel (not canon, but probably really is considered canon like the Old Republic) "Darth Plagueis". The way they treated Midi-chlorians in that book was actually really interesting, and if Lucasfilm actually did something like they did in that novel, I wouldn't mind Midi-chlorians being brought back up. I also think that Anakin should have been created by Palpatine (I refuse to call him Darth Sidious, I mean why not just call him Darth Sinister...?) and Plagues - with the help of Midi-chlorians manipulation - as almost a clone of Palpatine and Plagueis, but that is an entirely different discussion.

    Also, the midichlorians thing has long annoyed me. Midichlorians NEVER were the Force. That's not at all what Qui-Gon said or George Lucas meant. They were microorganisms that live in everyone, and are in a more dense concentration around those that are strong in the Force. That's all. If Midichlorians are there, fine. If not, then fine as well. Just wish everyone would actually understand this...

  • @ElBarto1193
    @ElBarto1193 9 лет назад

    So the Medichlorian issue is one that I don't have a problem rationalizing. It's in my head-canon that those life forms are ways to measure force sensitivity indirectly as they are found inside environments (people) particularly strong with the force. After all is the force has such a strong connection to the process of giving life to and the death of physical bodies then it's not too far of a stretch. Anakin was potentially an aspect of the force incarnated and it's possible the Medichlorians are no different, they're simply less complex life-forms. Medichlorians were obviously a tool to explain Anakin's unusual case as a Jedi recruit and were perhaps mishandled but they could have been worked into the lore IMO if they had been handled with greater care.

    I completely agree with Kristian in hoping that kylo ren is a relic hunter and that they use that to bring in a lot of the sith history because it is so damn interesting and something that really could be used more in the films. In regards to the Kylo Ren name issue, potential Spolier Alert... I noticed a change in the name of the Daisley Ridley speeder name from displays at celebration to comic con. Celebration had Kira's Speeder on the placard and then at comic on it said Rey's Speeder. What if her full name is Kira Rey and his is Kylo Ren as brother and sister, and they are the solo twins. The names match like Brooke and Brent?

    For the ones who still find it difficult to understand and WANT to be accepting of an explanation. Midichlorian is really just another word for what the Traditional Chinese Medicine mentions as Qui Energy. Everybody has it in their cells, it is everywhere and it is what´s connecting us to each other; a life flow and the more you are in tune with it, the more it flows through you! So that means every life form has "midichlorians" in their blood/cells. Your father had it, I mean has it :) Your sister/brother. Your neighbor. Your dog. Your cactus. So people stop crying cause YOU HAVE THAT POWER TOO ;) The more you learn about it and the more conscious you get, the more it flows in YOU! So, in the movie, they were just measuring if Anakin was already, without training, very much in tune with the force; energy Qui, life spirit, midichlorians or whatever you wanna call it. Cause sometimes you don´t have to know about the existence of the "force" to live with and in the "force" just like some people who are just organically more in tune with themselves and life than others without really thinking about it. This explanation does not take ANY of the magic away! Personally it makes it more real and I don`t get it if they are intentionally going to ignore it only because they cannot wrap their minds around it, what has become a "popular" opinion when it is really something so simple! George, I feel you man on this!

    I really enjoyed the prequels and really enjoyed how Lucas dove deeper into the mystery of the jedi and the force, but I didn't really read too far into the midi-clorian references. It was cool how they explained that midi-clorians is what separates jedi from everyone else and how they used it to develop Anakins story as the chosen one in the Phantom Menace, but other than that, I didn't affect the story for me, it was just another element that was added to explain how Jedi are discovered. At this point in the star wars saga and how far removed from the prequesl we are chronologically, I wouldn't care if JJ kept the midi-clorians, I don't think it would really make a difference for the story either way.

    I'm a fan of the prequels and I never had a problem with midichlorians. They Force is still a mystical energy, it's just that midichlorians explain why not just anyone can pick up a lightsaber. It's also a way to measure Force to show that Anakin is unusually stronger with the Force than most Jedi, rather than just saying "He has more Force than most Jedi."

    What do people think of the idea that the Imperial Guards were actually the Knights of Ren. I don't have any thing to back it up, just a thought. I think the novel Plagueis actually makes midi-clorians interesting concept. And he may well be Snoke in The Force Awakens. If you despise midi-clorians and feel it ruins the mystery of the Force, fine I understand. But there's actually some very interesting elements explored particularly in the Lost Mission episodes of The Clone Wars series.

    I just have this feeling that princess Leigh is the new "dark emperor". There have been supposed pictures of Adam Driver as an X wing pilot and princess Leigh looks like the person in charge in the scene with her in a hanger. I could see Driver being her son and Leigh using him as her sith pawn to keep this new and wavering republic from crumbling by undertaking secret missions for her, hence the mask that covers his whole face. Basically I see Leigh using Kylo Ren through the connection of him being her son to do what she thinks is right. Leigh won't be an outright villain in the typical sense but her actions will be very dictator like.

    Midi-chlorians could be re-explained (perhaps not in the movies) as a life form that feed off the force making it a good indication of a person’s connection to the force rather than the actual force. They could act as a sort of bridge between the force and the force sensitive being making it easier to gain knowledge about the force. It would be no means be perfect but it would reduce the harm of Ep. 1

    I get that Jar Jar was a bit of a distraction and had FAAAAARRRR too much screen time that could have been Darth Maul's and the Jedi.. That said, I don't entirely understand what the big problem is with the midi chorians? I like that it's not just a 'magic' and there is a scientific and chemical explanation to the power only few carry. It also scales how much power you have which is more like comic book characters. I never had a problem with it. There are far bigger issues and the largest in my book is Darth Maul not having any sort of character arch or much screen time at all in ep 1. He tracks the Jedi and duels. That's it!!!???

    X-Men Days of Future Past - Awesome
    Star Wars Rebels - Good

    Sherlock Holmes - Meh
    Jumper - Awful
    Mr. and Mrs. Smith - Ok
    X-Men the Last Stand - Awful
    xXx: State of the Union - Beyond Terrible
    So he's 2 for 8. Maybe 3 for 8. It seems like Days of Future Past is the exception not that rule.

    I don't mind the midi-chlorians. How else do you explain why the force is so strong in the Skywalker lineage? If anyone can be trained then why didn't Obi-Wan/Yoda just find others to become Jedi?

  • @LordelX
    @LordelX 9 лет назад +1

    Wasn't part of the downfall of the Jedi is that they were wrong about midi-chlorians? In the Clone Wars episodes where Yoda learns to talk to the force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn, it is heavily inferred that there is a lot about the force the Jedi don't know. The Jedi Council was dogmatic in their ideas of the force (ie. midi-chlorians), but Yoda discovered that "luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." It's all part of the irony that Yoda discovered what Anakin was seeking by joining the dark side, and how Palpatine turned the whole Jedi Order to the Dark Side (dogmatic views of the force such as midi-chlorians, becoming state-sponsered religious militarism) rendering them blind and inert against him.
    So the only thing Luke would maybe know about midi-chlorians in the Force Awakens is that they were misleading the Jedi in the past. So there's no reason for them to be in the Force Awakens. No retconning necessary.
