      It was a common thing to do in country on a Fender Tele...not as easy to do on a Gibson! Sounds killer here!

    • @Z80Man
      @Z80Man 4 года назад +19

      @@PeterPug Yeah, the problem is it can't be done with a classic bend since it would raise the pitch even more...
      The trick is clever, but can't be done on guitars with a floyd rose and a locked nut, for instance. Meaning it's hard to own a single guitar able to play any style !

    • @andjustjizzforall
      @andjustjizzforall 4 года назад +3

      @@Z80Man You can do it on a floyd rose, but it's just a matter of pulling the whammy bar up to raise the pitch. That's what I do when I've played it on my Ibanez with a floating bridge. And I swear I've seen Tony using the bar on a Vibrola SG to do the same thing

    • @Z80Man
      @Z80Man 4 года назад

      @@andjustjizzforall Sure. Sometimes you don't have much of a choice, like playing high pitch notes from Satriani parts on a 22 fret guitar... :p
      I guess the fact you can't bend on the nut might have made people wonder how Tommy made this progressive sound on the Iron Man intro unless using a Floyd Rose...

      You can do the solo. You must be diligent and persistent. Toni Iommi is no slouch. It might take you months or years. But after you get the first one, all the ones after will be accelerated. You must first figure out each note somehow. You should use guitar tabs to get your foot in the door, then practice putting phrases you can remember together, sometimes its 2 or 3 notes, sometimes more. Keep trying and try to the song. You must remember it all. Check out Chris Zoupa. He's the best.😉

    I Just guess Iommi did that bend behind the Nut with his Index fretting finger (right handed version would be Index left hand finger). And fretting hand ring finger on 2nd fret of D-string (E one octave higher) - Iommi probably would use his little finger for that. That way, the higher E keeps ringing and the low E note clashes Out and back into unisom ... At least I believe I can listen to a E one octave higher that doesn't bend on the original Record. Not sure If that one octave higher E is an harmonic/feedback from the heavy Distortion or If It was really fretted by Iommi...
    That Channel is great btw.

    LYRICS
    I am iron man
    Has he lost his mind?
    Can he see or is he blind?
    Can he walk at all
    Or if he moves will he fall?
    Is he alive or dead?
    Has he thoughts within his head?
    We'll just pass him there
    Why should we even care?
    He was turned to steel
    In the great magnetic field
    Where he traveled time
    For the future of mankind
    Nobody wants him
    He just stares at the world
    Planning his vengeance
    That he will soon unfold
    Now the time is here
    For iron man to spread fear
    Vengeance from the grave
    Kills the people he once saved
    Nobody wants him
    They just turn their heads
    Nobody helps him
    Now he has his revenge
    Heavy boots of lead
    Fills his victims full of dread
    Running as fast as they can
    Iron man lives again

    Not bad. i play it 7th and 9th on the E and A strings then go to 5th and 7th on the A and D strings it sounds the same and less fret to cover. But other than that excellent.

    One of the first riffs that I learned... but the only thing that I cant learn is the solo ;-;

    This is the way I usually play the riff. But I use my secret tone to spice it up.

    I am new to guitar and i was wondering, in order to achieve that sound are you using any pedal? Or just the gain in the amp? Great vid by the way

      For the rhythm parts, I have the gain turned up on about 8 or 9. I am using Logic Pro for digital amp models, but if I were to use an amp, I’d use the gain from the amp. You’ll get a good sound if it’s a good amp. If it’s a crappy amp, I would use a reputable distortion or overdrive pedal going to the clean channel (MXR, Boss, or soul food personal favs), Gain on 8, tone on 7, level halfway-ish.

    I like to play main riff on 5-6 strings, because it sounds like first amps.

      That’s how Iommi plays it.
      In the intro he also adds the E note on the D string second fret to the low E bends.

    Freaking perfect 🤘. I think we all "play" that tune. But it's great to do it right. Thanks for the tab. Anyone know of a video where Toni (or his guitar tech) sits down and goes over his SG knob positions and amp set up? Sure it's different for some songs but I'd like to see that. Not a RUclips guy, Toni or his tech. Rock the Fuck on America! Skip the politics and play your six string. We can all get along.

    Is there a pedal you used for this? If so what pedal
    Edit: very new to guitar, been on piano for 11 years and wanted to try something new

      Probably a distorsion pedal like boss ds-1, but you can play a similar tone turning up the gain on a lead or brown channel on your amp!
