    I was a city kid growing up, but every summer I would spend a month with my uncle who was a hog farmer. He had a very large operation. 10,000 hogs and about 15,000 acres of corn. All the corn went just to feed his hogs. If it was a good harvest, he would have several semi loads to sell, but for the most part it was ground up into feed. I would spend hours plowing, disking, chiseling, spreading manure, and in the fall I would drive a JD 4440 with a grain cart to and from the combine to the semi trailer. 14 hours a day. My uncle would drive out into the field I was in to make me stop. I was back in the seat as soon as I could get my ass there. Just something about that kind of work that makes me happy.

    This runs very well, with the roller at the front. The cover crop has done well too. Conditions are good (after dry summer season of 2018). The soil looks perfect, while the field looks smooth and equal, and no crop residues visible on top. Congrats to Tractorspotter as well for great video. All good.👍👌

      I couldn't agree more! The contrast between the lush green plants and the freshly plowed ground is visually striking and offers a beautiful depiction of the agricultural landscape. It's a testament to the dynamic and ever-changing nature of farming. Thanks for appreciating this captivating aspect of agriculture!

    You've made some excellent observations! The combination of the tractor with the front roller seems to work exceptionally well. It's impressive to see how the cover crop has thrived, especially in favorable conditions following the dry summer season of 2018. The field indeed looks perfect, with a smooth and uniform appearance, and it's great to see no crop residues on top. Kudos to Tractorspotter for capturing such a fantastic video. All in all, it's a job well done!

      The yellow mustard plant fixes nitrogen into the soil to help grow the next crop and it also acts as a natural weed suppression system.
      Two for one.

    • @nastysushi9290
      @nastysushi9290 6 лет назад +3

      well its something we ought to do in western Europe ("by environment regulation") since maybe 10 years. On some areas we have to sow plants to "cover-crops" during the autumn for the crops that'll only be seed next spring. Since we have to do it anyway, there are ongoing research to help farmers choosing the best seed mix given the soil type, the crop you'll plant after, the management of the weeds in the field etc...
      It is a charge for the farm (seeds, seeding and destruction costs) but hopefully we have ROI in terms of agronomy : for example as Mark Fryer said yellow mustard plant fixes nitrogen, it will also improve the soil structure and the biomass from the cover-crop, once mixed with the soil will help maintain or augment organic material rate thus the soil fertility. (i hope my attempt at writing in English wasn't too bad)

    • @4Seekuh
      @4Seekuh 6 лет назад +2

      The great job of the plough in this case will be a rottening layer in the working depth of the tool. An anaerobic area leads to a unwanted microbe area with the "bad" bacteria and fungi. If the organic matter would rotten on top of the soil, it would be a nice cover against heavy rain ... It would protect and feed the soil life for good start in the new year...

    • @4Seekuh
      @4Seekuh 6 лет назад

      Yes, but not in this case... The plough does more damage than the mustard does good. On the one hand a plough is always the baddest thing to the soil on the other hand the mustard is the worst cover crop. In Germany we say: The mustard belongs to the sausage and not to the field!
      This crop does not rooting a lot and it doesn't save much nitrogen. Many other cover crops save a lot more. But the best is a big mix of crops, such as 7-15 species to get the soil life started. The plow just kills soil life...

    • @thomasstergiou1331

      First of all my greetings to you from GREECE
      i hear many peolpe say that the plowing is the worst tillage way and that damages the soil it reduces soil productivity etc.....
      The crop that is going to be seeded or planted has the answer .
      On graminaceae such as whear barley oats corn sorghum etc and fabaceae such as triffolium medicago vicia pisum etc
      The tillage way is.......
      Do medium soil tillage with soiler subsoiler or discs for 2-3 years and then do plow.
      On other crops such ad beets potatoes other vegetables such ads tomatoes carbagge lettuce melons etc must be plpwed every cultivating season
      In conclusion we cannot get rid of plowing but we can reduce its use

    Does it really need 500 horsepower ?

      given the speed the beast is working with 7 furrows (8-10 km/h i'd say), you already know the Fendt could pull bigger tools in those conditions. hopefully the fuel consumption is not too high lol
