Juliana Agra Me too but I am dutch and thats how I experience cycling as a whole. When I cycle its calming and a sense of freedom. While cars are hardly moving in the city centre I can just zip by on my bike. Especially when its a hot day and people are baking in their cars...I'll be on my bike enjoying the sun with a nice refreshing breeze on my bike....heaven. And the repetitive motion of the bike is so relaxing...your mind gets so clear. I think of the best ideas riding home from work...or I suddenly remember something I forgot all day at work. Its great. Its not at all stressful or a source of danger to cycle in the netherlands, its a source of relaxation.
EastStandManc Motorcycle are not allowed but scooters are. It depends on how fast it can go. The reasoning is about safety. Slower going traffic would be safer on a bike path then among the cars (especially cause the cars don't expect a slow moving scooter amongst them cause slower and more vulnerable traffic is separated for their protection)..it would be dangerous for a scooter to zip between cars. But motorcycles can go at the same speed as a car and they wear helmets and everything. They are safe on the road with the cars. And you don't want them on a bike path cause they go fast...thats not safe for the cyclists. Like everything in dutch traffic its about safery for all types of users. We have rules, regulations and customs for everything.
A little dodgy in places, but people are alert and react well. The problem I have in Atlanta is that people are not alert and don't react well if they react at all. The possibility that walking in front of a bicycle might harm them is not in their programming. They have the same problem with cars in parking lots.
