8 years ago! Nicely done growing!! Thanks for the ARB video. I've had one for a long time and never installed it. Going to install it sometime soon. Thanks!!
Oh wow, retro TrailRecon! For anyone referencing this - I just installed the same model in my TJ. The included carriage bolts really screwed me, the nuts stripped when tightening and I ended up cutting them off with a grinder. I opened up the harness and removed the wiring meant for locker solenoids - essentially I just ran the single red wire from the pressure switch to my SPOD knockoff - so the pressure switch has no power at all until the SPOD switches on -- and then the pressure switch controls the ARB relay. I hated keeping a loose relay in my setup, but I don't trust winch/compressor level amperage through knockoffs. Installing on the empty ABS tray in a TJ -- just remember the 2 4mm hex screws - loosening allows you to rotate the entire unit and makes installation a breeze under the master cylinder.
If you do any water crossings or mud at all, you'll want to relocate that filter inside the cabin. I've also heard the cooler air will prolong the life of the compressor, but I've no experience on that point. Thanks for sharing your install!
This was a helpful vid. Gave me some ideas on where to mount it in my Ford F-250. Also pointed me in the right direction for the inflation kit. Ready to hit the sand again this time without a cheap air pump.
Good video Brad. My portable compressor just burned up after using it for a couple of years. So i was looking for a good permanent solution and this looks great. Thanks for the info.
Hi Awesome video just a quick question, i have the same setup at 8:27 you ran the power directly to the battery! Why do you need this since you have an S Pod ? Thanks
TrailRecon great man thanks for the reply. You even covered this part. Keep it up. It thought that the Spod can't provide enough power for it. Because it can't provide enough power for a winch for example
Very happy with my setup. It's great for just my Jeep, after filling up 2 other guys tires and mine on the trail the other day, it would have been nice to have the dual compressor. For just me, it's perfect!
Looks like a really nice compressor! I thought about and Spod but ended up making my own that has 9 outputs and 5 of them have 16 different strobe patterns plus solid on. I wish I would have made a video of the build but it took soo long to make.
That custom setup sounds pretty cool, maybe you could do a quick review of it.... I know that's something I would have been interested in when I was deciding what setup to use.
Great video That compresor is the best on the market is arb can bet that im saving money to put one they waranty for two years but I heard last years bro
I have a 2005 Jeep Rubicon with a Spod. The Rubicon comes with a shelf on the driver's side that would hold the ARB perfectly. My question for you is since you have a Spod, why are you powering the ARB to the battery? I believe my Spod instructions said you can forego relay switches etc and simply run a power and ground from whatever you are installing right to the Spod to whatever terminal you want. That was one of the main reasons I installed the Spod - simplify installs of all the extra goodies I want.
You could wire it directly to the SPOD, but then the compressor doesn't automatically turn off when you stop airflow at the tire. I would leave the pressure switch and relay in the harness and hook directly up to the SPOD. So big black/white and big red to SPOD and the small black and red shown in the video to the same SPOD terminal. That way you retain the auto shutoff of the pressure switch.
Interesting. So the SPOD would control the on/off and the pressure switch would do the auto turn off when the air flow stopped? So, three wires to one SPOD switch terminal and two wires to the same switch but the other terminal?
Yes, you get pressure on demand that way. Technically you only have to connect 2 wires to each since the two small black wires are part of the same wire.
Hi I have been following your channel and have learned a lot your videos are great tutorials. But, just a curiosity have you ever done a videos about TPMS problems?
So what was the connection you were making starting at 8:27 in the video? I too thought if you had an Spod, all you did was hook the compressor directly to the Spod, nothing going over to the battery.
I was wondering the same thing. I have the spod SE with touchscreen. Do I need to hook the big positive and negative wires to the spod and the switch wires
Tt Ss thanks for writing back. I’m a little confused by what your saying. I was gonna hook the power cables up and use the red and black wires for the switches to turn on the compressor with the spod. The built in circuit breakers are at the edge of what the compressor pulls
TrailRecon did you ever clear this up. Interest question....IF running a SPOD also, can the ARB be just connected to it? U do run a wiring harness at 8:27, and then ALSO more pos/neg to the SPOD. Maybe 1 pos/neg for power and ANOTHER pos/neg for the on/off switch itself?🤔
Great review and install! I want to do the compressor and air lockers eventually. But still need to do gears first. Also I really want one of those spods.
+The Bearded Jeeper Thanks man! The SPOD is so convent. I've got my CB, lights and now compressor wired into it and plans for front and rear roof lights that I'll wire into it in the future.
The Bearded Jeeper Not sure if it's cheaper but Painless Wiring has been around for a long time. They make retro fit harnesses for old and new cars. They do a lot of racing stuff to.
Hi what is the name of the relay that you connect those two cables are from the compressor thank you I will wait for the answer that’s a very nice compressor thank you
I have been looking to replace my 10kg air compressor for a while know it's great but it's too bulky this is perfect, I think the only thing that's stopping me from getting one is the $$$ but I guess you pay for quality.
I honestly debated between some other compressors that were less expensive, I have no regrets spending the extra money on the ARB. Well worth it.... although now I think I should have saved up for the twin compressor now that I have these bigger tires.
after watching your video, i went and bought one and i'm having problem with it. i connected everything as instructed and turn on the switch testing the unit. it came on for about 3-second and die out. I had check the fuse, relay, wires, and pressure switch. i dont know what's going on. any suggestion?
Wow, sorry to hear that. When you connect the hose does any air come out and does the compressor kick back on at all? I would call ARB, may just be the pressure switch?
Thanks for sharing A couple of questions 1) if you could redo would you still do single vs dual arb air compressor? 2) have you seen or dealt with viair onboard air? Please advise
I just installed this compressor today. I like the ARB tire inflator with blue aluminum body and metal braided hose. I cannot find this anywhere, and the link you provided goes to a digital one. I prefer analog and wonder where I can find one like the one you are using in this video. any help will be appreciated.
I bought this system and leaning to do the same install location as you chose. Its been 6 years since you installed. Has there been any issues with that location from heat of the engine etc?
TrailRecon, well produced video. Now that you have had the compressor in for a while, I have some questions. 1. Do you wish you had piped a connection fitting to the front or rear of the JK? Not having to open the hood is a plus. 2. Do you regret hard mounting the compressor. Would you like it free (in a bag)? You would not have to pull your JK close to help out others. 3. How hot is the compressor getting your Brake booster? My compressor gets very hot.
What's the benefit of using this over a portable air compressor? I've got a big heavy duty portable air comp. which refiles my tires from 15psi to 35 in around a minute; all i have to do is hook it up to the battery and push the on switch. Is there a benefit to this particular setup that i'm unaware of?
If you have a compressor that can fill you tires in a minute then I don't think you need to worry about upgrading... that's very fast for a portable unit. My portable was very slow and this is much faster, plus I like the convince of just lifting the hood and flipping a switch and I'm up and running.
I agree.. I don't understand why everyone wants to mount the compressors on the Jeep. I carry a Viair RV portable that I can move around to other vehicles. BTW, love your videos... Thanks!
@@n607rv For me it's the space requirement and convenience. I like to roll with the compressor at all times, and I'd rather hardmount in a spot I won't be storing anything else, to free up space where I could put other things. Never have enough storage space!

Quick question.i just bought my arb. I know you run power and ground to spod. But what about pressure switch. And do you still use the relay it comes with

I know you said you dont use the green and yellow wire as thats for lockers only the black and red. Im at a loss made sure my connections were good etc
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for posting this video. I just picked up a used ARB compressor and was curious how it was hooked up and if I was able to use my spod with it. Thanks!
The compressor still needs power. The real question is, why did you use the relay? The relay should only be needed if you're using the stock rocker switch, but since you're using the sPod you shouldn't need the relay as the sPod is supplying the relay. no?
I want to put an ARB compressor on my f150 but I don't have any room whatsoever in my engine bay. The one small spot I had, I have my relay for my light bar mounted. Any suggestions to where I can mount it? Having such a big engine there's not much space
+TrailRecon yeah that's what I was thinking was somewhere in my cab. Maybe even behind my seat. I've got room in the cab for sure. Probably not under the seats though. Not much room there.
How exactly did you wire your compressor? Can I simply attach the Power and ground to my Apollointech switch leads? I am confused on the harness and such & would like to utilize the Pod switch to activate.
Man, I'm in the market but I don't want to mount it under the hood; I'd rather keep it in the Tacoma somewhere to keep it clean.... or is that a ridiculous thought?
how to do wire in the ignition line? Im installing one and i get everything other than the ignition line? I have a 2018 tacoma and im still trying to figure this out. any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Good question and one I may ask ARB about, but yes, I leave my Jeep running while airing up. Honestly though, I don't know if it's necessary, but I just feel with the 8-10 draw from the compressor on the battery it is probably better.
cool, thanks for the honesty. i have mitch's email saved in my contact list because i was bugging him about the install a little while back. thanks again!
With the SPOD which has a relay rated at 40amp you should have been able go straight from your SPOD terminal to the power cables on the compressor (it is rated at a max draw of 32amp). Did you use the harness and relay they sent to hook up the pressure switch? From what I have read the pressure switch is used in conjunction with the air lockers and may not be necessary when just using it to fill up tires. I believe it is there to turn off the compressor at the rated psi to protect the lockers. What would be cool is to replace it with a pressure switch rated to the psi for your tires and then it will turn itself off when it reaches that pressure (instead of standing and watching.
+Jeffery Weber Ya, I read mixed information regarding direct wiring to the SPOD. I figured best to just use the wire loom as is, not a whole lot of extra work. I love the idea about having a pressure switch that shuts off when the tires are full.... that would be awesome!
the connector for the hose is pointing upward, wont this become a reservoir for mud. there was a lot of mud under your hood. You might cover the connector.
I bought the CKMTA12 I want just to inflate tires which wires did you connected at the relay box? my jeep has the overhead switches and the relays box same as the one you use in this video Thank you
What size tire was the test with? I have 35s and with my current set up it's about 4 minutes PER TIRES :-( to go from 20lbs to 40 lbs which makes the process so tedious! Thanks.
They were the stock 32's, but I currently have 35's and it takes me just over 2 minutes per tire... I'd go with the dual compressor if I had to do it over again.
TrailRecon wow, shattered piston? strange, could have been missing some kind of lubricant? On the ARB I was looking at them and wondering if the dual was worth the extra money. thanks for the advice, I will likely keep saving!
Purchased this ARB air compressor about a month ago bc of this video plus all my friends have them. Was pretty busy through the holidays so yesterday I was able to get out and hit the trail, went to air up for the first time and I got about 5 psi out of it before it shut off. I have it mounted under my hood in my 2012 jku. Haven't got a response from ARB yet. Thoughts? I have it ran through a MLC 6 controller..
That's a bummer to hear, not sure what the issue might be. I used mine for over 2 years and never had any issues. Hopefully ARB will take good care of you.
Are you still happy with this compressor now that it's been a while? The recent reviews on Amazon are less than impressive, not sure why. I want to install a compressor but just can't decide which one to get.
Could u have just ran the pos motor wire to the pos of whatever switch u are using on the spod and then the neg motor wire to one side of the pressure switch then from the other side of the pressure switch to the neg of the spod and not use any of their wiring. Seems like when u turned the switch on the motor would run and when the set pressure was reached the pressure switch would shut it off by breaking the neg side of the motor.
Can you mount this in the trunk area since the jeep has AC output you can connect to? For some reason , when you are done running the trail and try to pop the hood, its too hot sometimes to open the hood. My preference is in the trunk area. Can we install it there?
The engine bay usually becomes very hot after doing some off-road driving, especially in summer, does this affect the duty cycle? the tech spec says 50% duty cycle around 24C/75F temperature.
Just installed mine but it won't seem to turn on. I see you have that adapter for the air hose screwed in and then the pressure switch screwed into that. I don't have my hose yet so I screwed the pressure switch in directly just to see if it would work. Will it not turn on unless I have the hose adapter first?
thanks for posting this! i've had my ckma12 running my front/rear lockers for about 6 months now and just got around to ordering and installing the hose and tire inflation kit this morning. when first putting the tee in place, i thought it was going to be near impossible to screw it all the way in and now i see you have a good amount of thread left as well. i'm assuming that is totally normal?
nice, thanks for the quick reply. i actually used thread locker. i have mounds of red thread locker from all the upgrades i've done lol. i've sub'd to your channel!
Hi , I`m a fan of your channel. !! I want to ask you about any clue to connect a Dual ARB Compressor with just some clamps to the battery terminals whenever I need to use it. Because there are a lot of wires and cant figure it out how to do it simple. Thanks!!
Hey dude I had a quick question! I know you're running an spod system in your jeep, but I was wondering if you had to handle this situation at all. When you get to the wiring the switch part, it requires you to tap into an ignition power source. How did you do that part? Did the spod require that done? Thanks!
8 years ago! Nicely done growing!! Thanks for the ARB video. I've had one for a long time and never installed it. Going to install it sometime soon. Thanks!!

is there a way to seal it up for river crossings? theres some deep ones around my area.
how to do wire in the ignition line? Im installing one and i get everything other than the ignition line? I have a 2018 tacoma and im still trying to figure this out.
any help is appreciated. Thanks!
one other question - when you're airing up, are you leaving your jeep on or ignition off during those 8-10 mins?
Good question and one I may ask ARB about, but yes, I leave my Jeep running while airing up. Honestly though, I don't know if it's necessary, but I just feel with the 8-10 draw from the compressor on the battery it is probably better.
cool, thanks for the honesty. i have mitch's email saved in my contact list because i was bugging him about the install a little while back. thanks again!
Good video
I actually never thought about it, but you're right, maybe putting a small sock over it or something would be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!
I bought the CKMTA12 I want just to inflate tires
which wires did you connected at the relay box? my jeep has the overhead switches and the relays box same as the one you use in this video Thank you
What size tire was the test with? I have 35s and with my current set up it's about 4 minutes PER TIRES :-( to go from 20lbs to 40 lbs which makes the process so tedious! Thanks.
They were the stock 32's, but I currently have 35's and it takes me just over 2 minutes per tire... I'd go with the dual compressor if I had to do it over again.
Great video!!!
Thank you!
Great video. I liked his T-shirt. Any idea where to get one?
Can you tell me how to install this Compressor if I don't have an s-pod setup.
very useful, thanks!
Very nice ARB compressor setup. Will consider one when I have the scratch! Also, did you ever figure out what was wrong with the old unit?
The piston was shattered into about 10 pieces! I love my ARB, but kinda wish I would have saved up for the dual now.
TrailRecon wow, shattered piston? strange, could have been missing some kind of lubricant? On the ARB I was looking at them and wondering if the dual was worth the extra money. thanks for the advice, I will likely keep saving!
my air compresure working.but full heat.
@@TrailRecon yes they did, sent me out a replacement. They have great customer service!
Great Video. The spod makes all that wiring easy right.
+Bubbas Garage Vlogs Thank you. The spod was a great purchase, has made installing all my accessories so far very simple.
Are you still happy with this compressor now that it's been a while? The recent reviews on Amazon are less than impressive, not sure why. I want to install a compressor but just can't decide which one to get.
Looking for a compact compressor that can be mounted under the drivers seat of an Xterra..just need it for airing up tires.
do you know what psi the pressure switch is set to turn on and off?
The switch has a sticker on it that says On at 70psi and Off at 100psi. Hope this helps.
I've seen them mounted under drivers seats and in the trunk... lots of options.
TrailRecon thanks brad. Huge follower here of your videos. Just got done watching rubicon trail part 1 and 2 and the overlandx video.
Or can I just connected stray from the battery that will work or not ? Thank you
The engine bay usually becomes very hot after doing some off-road driving, especially in summer, does this affect the duty cycle? the tech spec says 50% duty cycle around 24C/75F temperature.
We run out in the desert during the summer all the time and I have never had any problems. Nothing put positive things to say about this compressor!
Just installed mine but it won't seem to turn on. I see you have that adapter for the air hose screwed in and then the pressure switch screwed into that. I don't have my hose yet so I screwed the pressure switch in directly just to see if it would work. Will it not turn on unless I have the hose adapter first?
why would you have to have seperate power and ground and relay when you have the spod with the own relay on the circuit..just curious
Not needed.... was just using their wire loom for the demo.
oh ok i was really confused lol
Great video, subbed!
Awesome, thanks and welcome to the channel!
thanks for posting this! i've had my ckma12 running my front/rear lockers for about 6 months now and just got around to ordering and installing the hose and tire inflation kit this morning. when first putting the tee in place, i thought it was going to be near impossible to screw it all the way in and now i see you have a good amount of thread left as well. i'm assuming that is totally normal?
Yep, I think as long as you have a good seal with the teflon tape it's fine. Thanks for watching!
nice, thanks for the quick reply. i actually used thread locker. i have mounds of red thread locker from all the upgrades i've done lol. i've sub'd to your channel!
Awesome, thank you!
Hi , I`m a fan of your channel. !! I want to ask you about any clue to connect a Dual ARB Compressor with just some clamps to the battery terminals whenever I need to use it. Because there are a lot of wires and cant figure it out how to do it simple.
Thanks!!
They have an portable kit you can connect/disconnect to your battery with alligator clips... good system.
Thanks a lot !!!! I`ll search it !!!!
How quickly does it air up the new tires? I would like to see that as I have 35's and am looking into that compressor. Love your videos
He shows going from 20 psi to 40 in 2:00
What happened and why aren't you using the diy 4 tire connection air hose?
This is an older video... loving the 4 tire inflator system.
good review.
Thank you!
Still using the arb? How is it?
Hey dude I had a quick question! I know you're running an spod system in your jeep, but I was wondering if you had to handle this situation at all. When you get to the wiring the switch part, it requires you to tap into an ignition power source. How did you do that part? Did the spod require that done? Thanks!
No, my compressor is hooked up straight to my spod.
All of your videos rock and this is no exception.
Do you have any pictures/diagrams you could share on how your direct to sPOD wiring is setup??
$259 bucks HOLY Crap! Same price as my 150gal home compressor. I might have to ask Santa for that one.
