This is one of the best interviews of Tim Ferris I have ever seen. I've been following Tim and his work for a long time and never got to know so much about him as I did in this interview. Rich is an outstanding interviewer. He brings a presence and listening to the space that allows Tim to be himself and open up on some sensitive topics. Looking forward to seeing more interviews like this from Rich.

So good! The title of this pod case is spot on. I have noticed Tim’s evolution. It’s beautiful. I am glad he is speaking about it. It makes him more like-able and human.
“If this was easy, how would it look like” is transforming my life. Seriously simple and profound. Thank you, Tim and Rich 🙏💕

I only follow 3 podcasters. Rich Roll, Tim Ferris and Gary V. That's it. And to see two of them on the same podcast... and at this level... quality, intimacy, expression of of the soul... this is amazing. I cannot even find the words to express how amazing this is. What I can say that this is the third time I see this podcast. Not just listen... actually see. Thank you So MUCH for doing this, Rich and Tim.

Had to pick this up again this morning.. I stayed up so late watching haha which is commendable because I Have the attention span of a blue Jay. Ooooh shiny object. Tim is amazing, just his outlook on life has inspired me to begin writing again after gosh about 10 years of having no motivation to do so..
At the end when you were talking about doing something just to prove you can, I have got to say this is a valuable gem of advice. Ive been a bookworm a why introvert and am a former world of warcraft addict and guildmaster (former master now that I stopped playing of the illuminaughty guild hehe) and I never took any risks without having financial stability to back it up. Never moved or took trips unless I knew it was financed and all the details ironed out so I would have stability anf less anxiousness. Well in 2015 when I was told by family to either do what they told me to or to kick rocks and get out of their house.. I chose for the first time something that was in direct opposition to EVERYTHING my anxious mind felt was safe.
This formeroh self loathing, low in self esteem, anti-social book worm and video game addict suddenly overnight found herself homeless in one of the most violent cities in California. I thought here's the greatest social experiment you will ever be able to conduct, and whats more is it's an experience that will change the very way you interact with reality. It will be priceless. Do it.
There I was standing on a levee looking at an island where some of the rougher, even scary to me at the time, people had made this small commune. So then I remember saying to myself.. let's go where you've got no path... Ashley you can and will leave a trail. (btw thanks maritime admiralty laws for the sanctuary of the islands and tidelands) I learned that even if the world ended tomorrow, I can navigate encounters with addicts, murderers, convicts bikers or gang members, and in being genuine (Maybe a lil too naive and a little too imaginative) discover that I can survive with the toughest of them. Hundred pound me would square up to big scary motherfuckers and still look them in the eye and ask them "why?" A question most guys don't want to have to answer to someone else. I learned that Society can see me starving with a "just hungry" sign they can judge me and post pictures making fun of me on their fb pages... And I finally learned I didn't have to take anyone else or their opinions personally. Nothing others do is because of you.
Ive forgiven those who wouldn't even dream of apologizing or admitting fault. Ive learned you can get the shit beat out of you, and you can forgive and get back up. Take a chance, don't judge and have faith it'll work out and if it doesn't, the failure of the experience will enrich you far beyond any success would Have... Grow explore and be openminded and try not to be a dick because there is no Redeeming time because the days are evil, unless you use the time you Have wisely.
Choosing homelessness for 1 year taught me how precious our time is, and how much society takes everything for granted. Don't judge the dude on meth with a cart behind his bike looking for recycling in your garbage can.. Until you've experienced the utter exhaustion of carrying stolen gallons of water to your tent. My fiance wpuld spent a good portion of 29 degree winter nights ceaselessly stoking our fire so he could steel railroad ties to red hot so he could bring them into the tent and keep us warm. The amount of energy it takes to cook, when you have no fancy camping gear and water that takes an hour and several hundred calories burned to get from point A to point B. When you have nothing, every facet of THE ART OF LIVING becomes more meaningful than you would ever imagine. It will change the foundation upon which you view what is of value in this existence. My book which I've started writing (thanks to all the inspiration from Tim and several others to motivate and begin) is I hope really going to change how society views itself from the eyes of someone at the mercy of the human kindness of strangers and how my life became more meaningful once I decided to live it with NOTHING but willpower and hope.

These two very thoughtful men, bite down down both hard and gently on what it is to walk this journey of life. What is interesting is not that there are answers here, but that persistent, intentional, and alert inquiry, with a dash of intelligence, is what this walk is about. There may or may not be a mountain peak to be reached, but playing the game well, then thinking hard and playing it again and then again, with a splinter more skill over time is enough. Thank you both for a splendid podcast!

It's interesting how every next generation goes through their healing phase earlier and earlier in life. Older generations get hit in their 60s and 50s typically prompted by health issues or divorce, Tim's is happening is in his 40s, my own journey started mid 20s with body detoxes that led to consciousness elevation, which in turn brought the layers of trauma up into the light and got a good surge from heartbreak, just to make sure there was no backing out of the growth that needed to happen. At this rate, next generations will first of all be far less traumatised, if we all keep doing the work on ourselves before having kids, so that we don't just transfer our unresolved issues onto our offspring (which still gives me shivers of resentment when I think about it) and secondly, they might as well get their healing phase in their teens and be complete healthy mindful woke people by the time they are in their 20s. That will make a society I would much rather live in. Go us!

I burst into laughter hearing Tim's account of the 10 day "retreat." I had heard his podcast with Sharon Salzberg and I really wanted to reach out and warn Tim that it may not be all it's cracked up to be, but he needed to find that out for himself. Going into retreat with expectations of any kind is a ticket to disappointment. I'm very mindful of encouraging people to go on retreat now and I also choose my descriptive words carefully, so people don't inherit expectations. It really is torture for some of us and yet for others it's pure ecstasy and who's too say where any one person will fall on that spectrum? I suspected Tim would lean more toward the more challenging experience. I think he said 15% of people have a horrifying time, but I'm not sure if that was a guess, or actual research? I found my 10 day meditation "retreat" to be 85% torture & I was having massive aversions to all the well-meaning people who said, 'Yeah! Go, it'll be blissful and amazing and (add desirable side-effect here).' For some of us it's torture, valuable insights as Tim said, but torture. It took about 5 years before I was willing to go back and try a multi day silent meditation again. Not speaking for 10 days is the easy part. I would hesitate to recommend a 10 day silent retreat to anyone, but equally I wouldn't discourage anyone who felt called to partake. At the very least, it's a learning curve and a life experience. Thanks for this podcast Rich. It's very endearing to hear Tim open up.

It still exists: Trilogy. But it is not as it was. After a rocky late 2000-early 2001, they laid off a lot of staff: Surviving severance - Austin Business Journal. There were more layoffs in the years that followed, and the company changed dramatically into a more professional organization with more focus. As another answer notes, a number of Austin startups have Trilogy roots (Trilogy and the Extraordinary Power of a Great Network - SiliconHills).

From what I understand, it might be Jocko Willink that got this side out of him. Tim's being opening up recently and the first time I had any notion of this was Jocko in his lastest episode with Joe Rogan saying his podcast was dark and he invited Tim on to talk about his dark side (suicide attempt when he was younger). Pretty interesting because Jocko isn't an intellectual (not a bad thing, neither is Gary Vee)

Love Tim's "Don't retreat into story" practice as a way to protect against self-defeating behavior. It reminded me of Gretchen Rubin's Strategy of Identity: gretchenrubin.com/2014/07/finding-it-hard-to-change-a-habit-maybe-this-explains-why/
To adopt a good habit, we have to overcome/let go of a narrative or identity that is comfortable for us, e.g. "I've always struggled with my weight." Or, "I'm not a morning person." Change the story, change your life.

"A come to Jesus moment." Indeed. That's reason he's here, the miracle as he put it, not coincidence! :)

yes,I concur, as I pour my 4th glass of wine, and I ponder on what is Infinite divided by finite? is it thinking and analysis? why is something divided by zero undefined?...how can this be?.
