I rented a CUES equipped Trek Roscoe over at Over the Edge Baja and was blown away by how well it shifted. It was nearly identical to my 12-speed Shimano XT. I'm sure it was heavier but out on the trail I couldn't feel the weight and the drivetrain was a dream to shift.

If you want an excellent budget drivetrain, get the MicroShift Advent 10 speed. It's a wide range cassette that works on standard hyperglide hubs, is super cheap, lighter than XTR 12-speed, and FAR less finicky. I never have to turn the barrels on the trail like on my SLX or XT bikes. 10 speeds make it far less finicky to keep in tune, but I've never once wish I had a gear between two gears. Quite the contrary...I appreciate not having to make double shifts as often. I bought this to breathe new life into an old 3x10 bike by converting it to 1x10. I was skeptical, but highly impressed.
Just converted my 2014 Trance 27.5 to 1x10 with a microshift advent x. Works great, really no reason it wouldn't. Really the best option for modernizing older but still great bikes that came with 2x10 without having to buy new wheels.
Problem with Cues is, it fucks with compatibility in the 9spd, which never was an issue. It sounds like Shimano just wants to add more skus to make things more confusing to the end user and even shops.
I’ll probably get the M8130 casette (and matching shifter and derailleur) for my 1x conversion project (2014 Salsa Horsethief). However, I’m very disappointed in cog choices for gears 3-5. The 36, 30, 26 should have been 37, 32, 27 (the other 8 choices are good) which would have been noticeably smoother in percentage jumps (taking away the 19.4 and 20% jumps going from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 and making those 16.2 and 15.6%. Bummer.
Good for Doddy for landing at Mondraker. I miss his GMBN vids, was my favourite presenter.

I have 2 bikes with 12 speeds and wonder why there are so many. The hardest gears are just kind of there.

Chainstay too short on L and XL. Stack is too low and can a 240 dropper be slammed?

There is no reason for ebikes to be 12 speed, 9 or 10 speed max is all that is needed. 10-50, or 11- 50.
Do you think that 10/11t cogs are even necessary? We're not so sure.
