History of Behula Lakhinder !! The story of Behula and Lakhinder was born sometime between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries. It is first mentioned in the poem Manasa-Mangal. The story of their love is back in the mouths of the people of Bengal. This story has been rumored by many people in the neighborhood. The audience has heard this story many times before, but they still hear it; No matter how much it is heard, it wants to hear again. There are some stories that never get old, never get tired of listening. Behula and Lakhinder's love story is such an immortal story. If you want to know the story of Behula-Lakhinder, you have to go deeper, you have to reach Devlok. Manasa was the daughter of the god Shiva. All the mortals used to worship and worship Shiva. No one worshiped Manasa because she was the goddess of snakes. This raises questions about his divinity. In such a situation Lord Shiva gave a solution to his daughter. If a devout Shaiva can be persuaded to worship in any way, then his worship can be introduced to mortals. Those who worship Shiva with reverence and devotion are called Shaiva. Chand Sadagar of Champaknagar area was a devoted devotee of Shiva. He is Lakhinder's father. Goddess Manasa chose him to worship. But Chand Sadagar refused to worship him. One who has worshiped the great god Shiva, how can he worship the serpent goddess? Hearing this, Manasa became angry and started harming her step by step. He tried to get puja from her by trickery but failed every time. Because Chand Sadagar had a special mantra of god Shiva. Under the influence of this mantra, he overcame all the deceptions. At one point Manasa saw that this was not the case; Then he came to Chand Sadagar half-naked in the form of another unmarried woman. When Chand Sadagar wanted to touch him, Apsari told him that he had to recite that special mantra. Chand Sadagar called him Mantra. Then Manasa left the disguise and came in real form and said, to worship him. The mantra is no longer with Chand Sadagar, the mantra has gone to Manasa because he says so. What will keep him alive now? Chand Sadagar had a friend named Shankar. He knew Tantra-Mantra again. Chand lost his divine mantra and took the help of Shankara. Shankar's mantra did not last long. Manasa kills Shankar with a more powerful mantra. The moon became helpless again. After refusing to worship Manasa, Manasa became angry and started killing her children one by one. Manasa did not spare even the domestic animals. As a result of such injustice in every step, Chand Sadagar lost everything and became destitute, at one stage he also started begging. Even then he did not abandon the worship of Shiva and worship the snake. After returning to Champaknagar after an accident while doing business, Chand Sadagar gave birth to a child named Lakhinder. At the same time, a daughter named Behula was born in the house of her friend Saha. In some areas it is common practice that Manasa conspired with Chand Sadagar and gave birth to them. When the goddess saw that she could not get worship from the moon in anything, she enlisted the help of two dancers from heaven. He agreed that they would be born on earth as Behula and Lakhindar and would bring puja from Chand Sadagar. Two children grow up at the same time. On the other hand, Mansa was also cursed, if not worshiped, all the children of Chand Sadagar will be killed by touching poison. The parents thought about their marriage and calculated that Lakhinder would be bitten by a snake at night. On the other hand, due to Behula's horoscope, they saw that Behula would never be a widow. Besides, they both worship Manasa, so they married her, thinking that Manasa might not kill them. But even then the fear remains. Where the goddess has killed six children before, what is the guarantee that she will not kill him? So Chand Sadagar took extra care of Lakhinder. He decided to build a very impenetrable iron wall for the night of Behula-Lakhinder. This wall will not have the slightest hole through which any snake can enter. But there is still a little error. The Iron Wall was built by a craftsman named Bishwakarma. Under the pressure of Manasa Devi, he left a small hole in the iron wall. As is customary in some areas, he was threatened that if a small hole was not kept, all members of his family would be killed by snake venom. The appointed day has come. On the night of Basar, Manasa sent Goddess Kalnagini to the Iron Wall. Kalnagini is the most venomous of snakes. Behula decided to stay up all night watching her husband. But Manasa put him to sleep with his powerful mantra. Nagini came and saw that Behula was sleeping but she had protected her husband in such a way that there was no way to bite any part of her body. But a little carelessness remained. Behula's hair was hanging down from the bed. Kalnagini goes up in hair. Lakhinder was bitten. It took his life. The rule then was that if a person was bitten by a snake, he had to be floated on a raft. A person bitten by a snake can come back alive if he is lucky. People had the idea that if a snake bites, sometimes the soul is trapped inside the body, if it is floated on a raft, in some cases that soul may be active in the body again. According to the rules, Lakhinder was also floated on the raft. The snake usually floats on the person bitten by the snake, not on anyone else. But Behula did a very brave thing here. He himself boarded the raft. He did not accept any of the others. Day after day, month after month, the raft floats and the corpse of Lakhinder begins to rot. Village after village followed, and the villagers began to see him as mad. But Behula does not give up hope in anything. Keep praying to Manasa. Manasa Devi does not help in any other way except keeping the raft floating. The raft has been floating for six months. Once upon a time, the foster mother of Goddess Manasa came to the village of Nitar. Nita was washing clothes at the dock then. How Nita became Mansa's foster mother is another story, I will tell that story sometime later. Seeing Behula's unceasing prayers and love for her husband, she decided to take them to Manasa in heaven. He used his miraculous powers to take the husband and wife to heaven and to Manasa. Manasa then says that Behula will get her husband's life back, but she has to do something, to persuade Chand Sadagar to worship Manasa. Behula agreed to persuade Chand Sadagar at any cost. Then Lakhinder got his life back. He looked at Behula with matching eyes. He smiled beautifully. And the rotting body became normal. Nita brought them back to earth. Reaching the mortal world, he told all the facts that Chand Sadagar could not help but worship Manasa. But Manasa gave him so much trouble that Chand Sadagar was still angry. He could not completely forgive Manasa. He used to worship with his left hand while performing puja. He did not look at the statue again, but turned back. But Manasa is happy with that and her divinity is fulfilled. From then on, the worship of Goddess Manasa started in the mortal world. As a result, the lives of the remaining six sons of Chand Sadagar were also restored. Besides, the confiscated assets were also returned. As a result, the families of Behula-Lakhinder and Chand Sadagar started living happily and peacefully.

This legend is a Bengali legend and not only a bangladeshi legend. There is a Bengal and there are Bengali people in India 🇮🇳 as well. Majority of Indian Bengalis live in the Indian state of West Bengal (Bangladesh being previously, before partition of India, the East Bengal) and majority of Indian Bengalis are Hindu. This legend is also a Hindu legend. Though both side of the Bengal claims it but Behula, her father-in-law Chand Sodagor are more related to West Bengal.
Hey ! GiGi & michael remember today i meet in passport office dhaka. You two very generous. I’m in hurry’ forget to selfie 🤳🏻 with you I wish .. Thanks 🙏🏼.
Wow !! I, haven't seen it before but I heard about it, Thank you both Dodos, 💖. "Behula lakkhindor basor ghor" is a local fairy tale, possibly the mound was built for a Buddhist king or for a Buddhist Monastery. Both the story and mound is very ancient so that it's hard to find out the actual history.
Come Shitakounda. Bangladesh 💕
