Superb model! That Mars light is simply uncanny, it's so lifelike. Okay, I'll nitpick and say I'd like to see green glass in the domes. But still, excellent craftsmanship. Thanks for the look!
@1chefrick Heh, I thought about doing that too! Some other members get their three-axle trucks to traverse, so I need do a bit of tweaking. But, I can always fall back on removing the middle axle.
Walthers really out did themselves with this train, it's beautiful! And so is the layout. When you run your trains at scale speed, it enhances the train and the layout. Thanks for the beautiful video.
Yes, but the Omaha Orange was way too red, the Pullman Green didn't have any brown in it and the striping/lettering should have been "Dulux Gold" (butter color), not bright yellow. Walthers considered correcting the red-orange error on their second run after so many complaints, but decided against it. The Railway Classics and Challenger imports brass cars are the proper color, if you can afford them. You gets what you pays for.
Wow, you lucked out finding that set. I spend 2 years just tracking down the empire builder observation car for a rainbow set O.o; You must have way more patience than myself. Awesome set.
@rcgrabbag Let me know how your tweaking works out, I had the same problem with my BN Full Dome and took the middle wheels out to temporarily get it to run.
Sorry for that question, but I'm reporting from Germany. - What is a realistic price I have to pay now for an ABBA combination like this from Walthers or another supplier ( with sound ). - approximately -. thanks a lot for your information Günter
Consist should be RPO, Baggage Dorm, Flat top Coach, Dome coach(3), Ranch car, River sleeper, Pass sleeper, Diner Kitchen forward, River and Pass sleepers ($) and sleeper obs. It was common for GN to add baggage cars to the front of the train in GN paint matching the Empire Builder
Cliff West Yeah I know, I didn't have time to do the research and fiddle with all those cars. Making the video is enough work. Glad you enjoyed it in any case.
@@MisterEspee Correct (two domes to Seattle; one to Portland). You could walk thru a baggage (dorm) car, but you can't walk thru an RPO (post office clerks carry guns). The flat top coach was a 60-seat high-capacity car for short-trip passengers, placed up front so they wouldn't bother long-haul passengers during the night getting on and off the train. In later years GN added a full baggage car and some of its 1947 44-seat (small window) coaches. In off seasons, one of the domes would be transferred to the International and Portland-Seattle pool trains, both of which were pretty spare trains (no food service).
@@rcgrabbag Dude, you spend all this time creating a superb layout, purchase a gorgeous Empire Builder, but can't spend a couple of minutes to get the consist right?
@@kirkzylstra7485 Gee, Kirk, thanks for the incredible value you've brought to the discussion. Let me see how it's done on your channel. Oh...well...geez, nothing there. So glad the internet has such a never-ending supply of your type. And I didn't create the layout, so, you're not even that good at doing your own research.
Listed as the most beautiful train ever made; beautiful colors.
The 4th engine was added to pull the full dome car, weighing in at 85 tons.
Incredible layout and superb Empire builder. Congratulations !
That is one pretty train you have there. I miss the days with all the colors - before Amtrak.

Beautiful train and layout.
@ragnar691 Agreed, but I need to hone my weathering skills on some other more "expendable" items first!
Another wonderful train! Thanks for posting this video. Bill R
@billr991 Thanks Bill. Your layout looks incredible!

Beautiful Builder consist, very impressive,,some very light weathering would make it more realistic.
