I like the window trim outside. It gives it that craftsman style feel where you know someone built it by hand rather than something store bought like a plastic shutter. It's coming along nicely. I was glad to see you have a friend with you in this one. It makes the day go by better and you get more done. You still have time now that it's cool to knock out the rest of the outside shingles. No one can predict, but I read we are in for a mild winter. So anytime you guys can escape to the cabin and build a fire is going to be awesome. Very few people are doing what you are doing right now. Thanks for uploading it. ( 68 days left until Christmas! You need to cut down a small charlie brown tree and surprise your wife when she goes for a weekend. Small tree, construction paper circles for decorating or popcorn! LOL)
I'm a guy and I LOVE to cook. Absolutely enjoy it. If anyone likes lasagna, mine takes 90 minutes in the oven! I break out my black turkey roaster that's speckled with white spots. (Granite ware, I had to look it up). I use about 3 lbs of Italian, a container of ricotta, 18 ounces of Provolone cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella etc and mix it up. That layer is at least an inch thick in the bottom of the pan on layers of noodles. Then more noodles, ground chuck with onions and sauce, more noodles, more cheese layer. It's my own creation LOL. anyway, it takes a long time to bake so that cheese blends together and sets. I've had people scraping the sides of the pan before.

Thanks it was nice to have my friend Chris along with me. It really does make the day go by faster and it beats being there alone! The quart jars have the same wide-mouth lids. They do look like the tops are tilted inward. Not a suggestion, but I wonder if the illusion would go away if the straight edges were on the inside - if the stovepipe would visually reinforce the fact that they aren't crooked.

Always good to be prepared. Forest fires are pretty rare here but I would like to build some tree and brush free corridors.

@@50Acres keep in mind that sometimes there is no where to run and no time to run.
I remember I saw a horse on a pool last time there was a fire. The firefighters found him alive with some burnt skin in the pool.
I thought that horse has more sense than most people.
In a place like yours, I would want a large enough water tank on the ground out of reach from snakes, falling trees, or flying debris.
If I get stuck, I would get into the water tank and wait for the fire to mellow down.
I might lose my truck and house, but I will be ok.

Wide mouth quart jars. Also for decoration you can the jars in colors. I dont think those lights build up much heat, but a couple of years ago we made light jars and I drilled holes in the quart jars to actually feed a string of lights through, and you might think about maybe drilling a couple holes just to let heat out if they do get warm. The project we did was to fill the jars with a string of lights and put in some potpourri and then a lace top. As the lights are inside spiraled up the jar with a little bits of potpourri when you plug it in it makes the potpourri fragrance come out

That will be fun to seasonally change the colors! That sounds like a cool DIY project. Might make for a neat hanging lamp over the kitchen table.

Classico Pasta Sauce jars. I use them for cold drinks on the deck. They should fit over your lights no problem. Plus you'll get a couple of meals out of the deal too.

I like that you are using DC for lighting. I bought a bag full (50? maybe 100?) of 3 amp fuses for dirt cheap. My thoughts are 'if something goes wrong the fuse pops faster'. An economical way to move air in spring/fall is 5" computer fans mounted in plexiglass that pops into your window. A small speed controller for DC can make them very quiet when slowed down to about 1/3 speed. Wiring 2 fans in series will work just fine with 24V. Each fan moves about 200CFM at full speed. Hope that helps.

I tend to do the same thing, if there is any room I will undersize the fuse. Easy to change a blown fuse but not so easy to put out a fire. Thanks for the fan trip.
