We live in O'Neals my family was here before Hwy 41 we are 4 th generation cattle ranchers and Potters Ridge ( Deadwood ) just like Fresno Flats ( Oakhurst ) is where our neighbors run cattle today . Not sure if you knew Sam Fancher but that Native American Cowboy was the best loved riding with him . Love seeing things done right keep it up Cowboy 🤠
Thanks again for sharing the process with Chinaco ! You have helped me to fill in a lot of the pieces to the puzzle of making a bridle horse in a way that has made sense. For all of us out here who have tried to be honest with the horse, you have bridged the gap ! Thank you Pat!!
Great advice about one rein stop. I've only done a couple in my life. I would think if you weren't on flat ground the horse would lose balance & fall. Thank you so much with being generous with your knowledge Pat.
Awesome job with Chinaco Pat. What a fine steed he’s turned out to be. Thanks for the great videos. And, you, your animals and Deb have a Merry Christmas! 🎄 😊
Thanks again Pat. You are a good teacher and motivator. My parents smoked those cigarettes and my mom saved those coupons for trinkets too. You brought back a humorous memory for me on top of everything else. Thanks again!
I love your videos and om the 1 % that makes a briddel horse not many, as I ride a lot of baby's and as you well know the time it's takes iv started sharing your videos to men that come to wantvto learn as at times it comes better out of your mouth than mine ...lol it's good and I do fond time to ck in on you 2 ..❤from KY. But from the grate bason county
I know pat has said on various occasions that when you all are intending to make a spade bit horse. you start them in a hackamore then transition them to a bosal, then a shank bit two rein set up before fnishing them in a spade. Avoiding the snaffle entirely. What actual type of bit do you use while the horse is in the two rein? is it a spade or a different kind of western bit that you use before graduating to the spade?
We don't use any bit before a spade bit when making a bridle horse. It's just halter, bosal, (5/8, 1/2, 3/8), two rein with the spade, and finally straight up in the spade.
@@PatnDebPuckett thanks for the reply. The other question I had. Do you all use pats western bit mainly with split reins or can it be used with closed reins/ and or romals.
So since you are asking the horse to lift and arch his spine into true collection as in a bascule- why not start by cutting off all of the leather crap of your saddle that extends back behind the cantle and more importantly PUSHES DOWN AGAINST THE HORSES SPINE AND ASKS HIM TO GO HOLLOW WITH HIS SPINE. The horses going hollow with his spine is one of the most damaging things that the horse can do because it strains their entire anatomy.. Don't ride with a bunch of saddle leather causing damage to the horses spine.. This is the reason why the people that you misinformed western riders enjoy gossiping about and verbally putting down - dressage riders- mostly because you insecure cowboy wannabes feel threatened by suburban housewives who know more real horsemanship than you do and ride better than you do.. To be sure part time dressage riders have their own mistaken ideas that they pursue which cause problems. But, you spade bit guys portray yourself as some sort of superior horsemen.. For the record here are two more things that you need to fix.. 1. - what you call a disengagement is actually a moving turn on the forehand, it has been around since 2500 b.c. it was not invented by Ray Hunt or the Dorrance brothers or any of the spade bit guys.. 2. you need to start acknowledging your purposeful ignorance of true horsemanship that goes back thousands of years and clearly stating tou your audience just where you owe a debt to classical dressage. best Bruce Peek
Boy, I’m glad you got that out of your system. I hope you feel better. Now it’s my turn. First, you clearly haven’t seen many of our videos. Second, I would like you to try to doctor cattle in a dressage saddle. Third, Spade Bit horses are ranch horses whose job it is to work and rope cattle primarily for the purpose of doctoring the sick, helping to deliver calves, and administering vaccinations and wormer. And fourth, having competed in the Doma Vaquera, I am very much aware of the moving turn on the forehand and the moving turn on the hindquarters. I also am aware that there is much more damage done to horses in the modern dressage world than any cowboy with a western saddle. On this channel, we encourage people to ask questions and engage in civil debate. We love to interact with people who are genuinely curious and open minded enough to know that they don’t know everything there is to know about horsemanship. What we do not appreciate or allow is for people to sit behind their keyboards and go on the attack. If you have questions, ask. If you don’t agree, say so politely. But do not be rude to me and my husband who has likely forgotten more about horses than you will ever know. I haven’t gone to your RUclips channel but I suspect there are no videos showing how you work with horses and teaching people to be better horsemen.
In a world that is skin deep a Gentleman like Mr. Pat Puckett shines brightly . Genuine, Honest, Educated

Once again... Love the history. I'm from the areas you are talking about and I love the lessons... both about horses and history.
Thanks again Pat. You are a good teacher and motivator. My parents smoked those cigarettes and my mom saved those coupons for trinkets too. You brought back a humorous memory for me on top of everything else. Thanks again!

That is quite a horse Mr. Puckett.
Your words are like music
Great video as always. Is it correct that rein chains are only used with romal rein? Hope you guys have a great Christmas!

"There was an old indian...about thirty!"😂
The only way the stories could get better? Is in the saddles..
Dink 😅 in McDammitt
...he was an old guy...probably 30 years old 🤣. I wished I was that "old" again 🙂.
Is Chinaco a Stallion? If he is do you plan on making him a Gelding? If he is at what year did you make him a gelding?
Can you physically show us the chain length??😊
Full chains start off at 12 inches long.
