Hats off to Tyler Perry. I have been waiting for a movie like this. It accurately depicts the madness associated with untreated borderline personality disorder caused by childhood trauma and extreme low self esteem. Thanks to high family values, Ava finally finds the courage to leave the marriage before she loses her self and her sanity. Meanwhile Dallas is lost and engulfed in the rollercoaster of abuse and violence due to broken emotions. The movie shows the war between verbal and physical abuse against strong family values and the black church. It was so real to me and to so many others who can relate and truly understand the generational curse of classism within the black community. EVERY domestic abuse case or crime of passion known is based on some level of the emotional turmoil and truma shown in this movie. THANK YOU TYLER. Cory and Meagan did the damn thang...OK!

Sun in Leo woman & Scorpio man hmm. I was tryna catch the vibes. It’s possible. I think Megan needs and deserves someone a little lighter and secure. Cory also may be better suited with someone in the industry behind the scenes. Megan being the bigger more seasoned and well liked star would be Tia all over. It was interesting to hear them refer to each other as siblings and that Megan specifically through Cory’s name in to Tyler.

Let’s set the record straight.
As a 58 year old African-American woman, who is highly educated in the field of psychology, I also divorced my former husband because he didn’t appreciate me until I divorced him, Cory didn’t appreciate Tia.
Find the last video that they did together. Cory was clearly annoyed with Tia, like he couldn’t stand her, and he spoke negatively about her, which hurt her feelings. She had spoken positively about him, and his negative disposition made her angry. (There had to be more of Cory’s negative demeanor behind closed doors.) Shorty after that video, Tia divorced Cory.
Men can be cruel towards women after they’ve been with women for a while. You have no idea now cruel, and that’s why women often are the partitioners for divorce.
Tia shared everything that she had with Cory, including her house. Cory has lessons to learn about appreciation and respect that should happen before he gets divorce papers.
Not a fan of this script where black women have struggle love only because there is so many movies of us in this light. But happy to see these two actors have an opportunity. I love that they both are very into their faith and god. That's a positive for me.

Watched the movie today. Many of the leads are veteran actors who did really well. But the script and storyline were cliche, unrealistic, and confusing.
Regarding you saying it was unrealistic, what if I told you I know someone that almost the exact same thing happened to her (minus the funeral scene of course. I don’t think that has ever happened in the history of this world lol). When I was watching it, it felt so extremely true to life because I felt like I was watching my friend’s true story being played out in movie form. I think the fact that it seemed unrealistic to you speaks positively on your life and the things you’ve personally been exposed to but there are others in this world who have gone through some things.
@beautifulsurprise9424 SPOILER ALERT: The wife went from taking her husband's garbage for years to Miss Strong Independent Woman after spending just a few days at her parents' house. Sorry, that's so unrealistic. I know from experience that it takes a lot longer than that to make that kind of transformation. Then she says she needs to be alone to focus on her 'self care', but before you know it she's sleeping with the new guy, lol.
The gun-toting, preacher dad was also crazy to me. And what preacher dad plays matchmaker for his daughter immediately after her separation? She wasn't even divorced yet! Sorry, I don't get it.
I know men like the husband exist, of course. But when I watch a film, I want intrigue, plot twists, and entertainment - not a mundane depiction of real life. And what about the movie's loose ends? The husband says he killed his dad, nothing more is said or done about it. The friend cheating on his wife storyline was totally random; completely unrelated to the plot, and nothing came of it. And we're expected to believe that the wife kills her ex, but his crazy family is just gonna move on without retaliating? Totally unrealistic.
Finally, Tyler Perry's depiction of Christianity is absolutely terrible. The cussing and sleeping around was ridiculous. The movie sends a very confusing religious message. I get that many 'church folk' live this way but Perry can use his films to send a good message despite that. It's disappointing that Perry has gone from promoting Christian values to promoting an unbiblical depiction of Christianity.
I respect your opinion, but I think the movie was awful.
@@petalblossom96 I think a lot of what you mentioned were minor details that may have actually been in the movie and were cut for time purposes because they were minor. The part about him killing his dad was only mentioned to show exactly how troubled his life was growing up and to help explain why he was the way he was. I see why it was done that way and if more was included about that it could have been cut for time and you very well could see more scenes about that in the director’s cut version. There have been times in other movies where things I thought should have been explored more were actually in the directors cut and I realized they were cut for time.
The part about him lying to the friend’s wife about her husband continuing and affair that he told her only happened once was self explanatory to me and didn’t need anything more than what was in the movie. They could have explored it more but that would have turned side characters into main characters in my opinion. Dallas only blurted that out because he was pissed off that his friend was hanging out with his ex-wife and her new man and since his marriage was all messed up, he wanted Jim’s marriage to be messed up as well especially considering he didn’t get along with Rona.
Ava saying she wasn’t ready for a relationship and then entering into one shortly there after is par for the course. I’ve done that before myself.
My mother grew up in a small town exactly like the one they described in the movie and all of the preachers are exactly like Ava’s dad. You even mentioned yourself that church folk are like that. I and a group of other teenagers from my church got cussed from here to Sunday one year by our pastor for something crazy that one of the guys did…lol smh. With as many pastors that have affairs and do many other despicable things, I think the way the pastor was depicted was extremely believable.
Ava only needing one week to heal was a little rushed. I agree with you there, but I will say that you can’t use how long it took you to get over a situation and expect someone else to take a similar period of time. You knowing from experience is only your experience, but keep in mind she was an abused wife. It may not realistically take someone a long period of time to move on under those circumstances especially since Dallas left her which would have made it easier for her to move on. Wanting Ava to muster up the strength and courage necessary to leave him may have taken longer but she didn’t have to do that because Dallas divorced Ava which speeded the process along. Plus it’s a movie and she couldn’t have been there for six months because it would have been a four hour movie, but I do agree that one week was very brief but it was excused in my mind because I know the plot had to be wrapped up in two hours or less.
I am not discounting your thoughts on the movie but I enjoyed it for what it was. I know that many people expect Oscar-worthy screenplays from Tyler Perry (or at least his movies are judged as though they were) and that baffles me. Tyler Perry is not going to give you Oscar material but he is going to give you an entertaining movie and I found it to be entertaining. I think the complaints you have are what would take his movies from the way they are to the next level but how many Tyler Perry movies do we have to see to know we’re not going to get that from him? We just have to lower our expectations from exceptional movie level to entertaining movie level. They’re never going to be exceptional but they are going to be entertaining and that’s what this movie was…to me. Maybe put him in the Lifetime movie category. No one expects Oscar worthy movies from the Lifetime movies but they’re so entertaining which is why they are constantly made. But this is all just my opinion. It was good bouncing around thought processes with you. Take care!

I loved him on All American and Lincoln Heights, he is a treat to see when he appears on The Chi. My favorite movies are Brotherly Love, Karen and Doughboys. He looks so good, hope he finds love again someday…..
Cory’s situation from the outside seemingly feels like that quote that reads something to the effect of…what you think is a setback or bad may be the BEST thing for you. I feel like it’s his time too.🙏🏾🙏🏾 His relationship with God is beaming through him.
