You may have forgotten to add. The voice actor for Slipstream happens to be Dan Gilvezian, who voiced both Bumblebee from Transformers and Spiderman from the Amazing Friends cartoon series.
The toy Slipstream gifted to his maintenance crew's son, is obviously Megatron, who transforms into a gun- not Jetfire, who transforms into a jet. I don't know if the comic book artist accidentally or intentionally mixed up the characters, considering Jetfire's... complicated history with 'Transformers'. (FYI for those unfamiliar, his toy is a licensed version of the VF-1 Valkyrie from the 'Super Dimension Fortress Macross' anime, the latter of which was adapted in North America as 'Robotech'. The animation studio behind 'Transformers' had to redesign the character, and ultimately renamed him 'Skyfire'.)
As for issue 49, slipstream and lift-ticket are mentioned, and slipstream is said to be piloting a plane we don’t see the pilots seat of. I think lift-ticket being called slipstream was a mistake, and when we see the other joes not knowing him in issue 54, they probably haven’t seen him yet.
Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas is basic training for enlisted Air Force personnel only Officers go to the USAF academy in Colorado Springs Colorado The toy of Jetfire looks an awful lot like Megatron There is a saying in the Army What's the difference between a 2nd Lieutenant and a private E-2? The private has been promoted once
Thanks for the history lesson of the jet blended in with Slip-Stream!

The US Air Force & Air National Guard 🛩 has no OCS? The need for pilots, crews seems more than just the US service academy system.
