@VoltigeurFR lol yeah especially when you consider that the US Army Special Forces were formed and instructed by french Général Aussaresses and closely matched the Bataillon de Choc doctrine of cooperation between foreign intelligence offices and commando troops on the field, US Special Forces and intelligence agencies hired him to teach counter-insurgency tactics at Forg Bragg and Fort Bennings after the Indochina War and the Algerian counter-revolutionary conflict ; modern JSOC doctrine is nothing but what the french paratroops did in Alger, with QRFs on standby for strikes on targets exploited by the intelligence community, targets taken everytime to lead to other targets, from top to bottom, see the movie La Bataille d'Alger
The French Foreign Legion's famous 2nd REP and the modern Armée de Terre Commandement des Operations Spéciales (french SOCOM) 1st RPIMa (paratroops unit) operated with the famous "Bananes" helicopters on permanent standby in a very similar way the SAS' Task Force Black as well as Delta and SEAL 6 did in Irak. They were not trialed because it is obvious that special units are intended to be a killer elite, but it is true however that they became infamous, much like Petraeus and McKnight. But in truth everything comes full circle, as these paratroops units were all inspired and taught by the British SAS in WW2 era, so... it is the nature of combat experience to be passed on I guess.
