Robin Antin presented the idea of PCD to Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine with the majority of the girls from the burlesque troupe and some new add-ins. None of the girls had a voice that was commercial enough for radio, thus the recruitment for a lead singer that possessed vocals that would be considered "mainstream". They found Nicole. Nicole Scherzinger was hired to do a job. So, just like you're put in a group at work and there's a team lead, Nicole was appointed the main vocalist. Nicole was also an established song-writer and thus wrote the majority of the music/lyrics for the group. It was what she was legally contracted to do. In addition, "I Hate This Part" was for her solo record but that was scratched and used for a PCD album instead.
