- How to install connecting rods on a Lycoming O320 crankshaft. This connecting rods and crankshaft assembly will be installed in a Piper Supercub O320 B2B engine. In this video we show you how we install these connecting rods. This is the first step of the assembly procedure during an engine overhaul.
Thanks for tuning in. If you have any questions about the process to install connecting rods please ask them below and we'll do our best to answer them.

Thanks for the great videos. Would be cool to see the entire engine assembly process from start to finish!
Thank you! We will work on that! 👍🏻
Thanks for all of your excellent videos.
There should not be any assembly grease on the parting surfaces of the con rod or the cap during assembly of the cap to the rod.
I wanted to see the details of the bearing Tang's on the rod and the cap to see if your installing them correctly! And bearing clearance with a bore gauge, and mic the crank and also side clearance!!!!
Have you done a video on big end bearing and main bearings?
I didn’t see you using any wrist pin retaining device before attaching head. Isn’t there any snap ring holding pin in piston?
Good instrutions
Thank you for these wonderful videos!
So does the 320 not call for stretching the rod bolt, just torque?
Great job sir! Thank ya'll.
I'm wondering why you hone the small end bushing?
Thank u Sir
Hello alaska, good
What bolts do you use to connect the crankshaft to the stand?
What is the price of a 320 engine one unit
You mentioned that if after installing the rod you spin it and it makes noise that you should take it off and clean everything up and reinstall. My question is, when you reinstall do you use new rod bolts and nuts? Or are the bolts only considered to be one time use if the engine has been run.
The manual says that once they've been torqued or stretched to spec, they have to be replaced if they're removed - Period! No gray areas there. Taking the rods off and putting them back on would get pretty pricey REALLY fast!
When I rebuilt an O320 back in 2011 the bolts cost $35 each and the nuts $5 each.

Which bearing absorbs the propeller's pulling force?
There is a thrust face behind the long front main journal. Little hard to explain in text
@@akcylinders I thought so too. But only on the aluminum of the motor housing? Thanks for the answers !
I have a question for you guys. I'm doing the top end of a o235 with 700 hours on it, what is the safest way to make sure I'm putting the correct rings in it.
Chrome cylinder = steel rings and vice versa
You are correct. Steel rings for chrome bore, chrome rings for steel bore. The best way is to go by part numbers. Their are individual piston ring part numbers and ring set part numbers for either chrome or steel bore. Can be found in Lycoming parts catalog or Lycoming Service Instruction 1037
@@akcylinders Thank you .
I know mixing them up is bad news
