Looking to fly some of my Nitro Engines more this year, I decided to clean up and run this OS Max, NSU WANKEL Nitro ROTARY Engine again and get it ready to fly in my own Flying Wing Design. Congratulation on your recovery it's a blessing that everything worked out wonderful for you and Ileah, God Bless you Both. You know I remember when you built the Gutter Wankle Great Flying Machine.
@@NightFlyyer well we had a tornado touch down about 8-10 miles from where we live last night. Damaged a few homes, businesses, and flipped over some 18 wheelers on I-65.
The rotary engine is officially back, but don't expect a sleek sexy Mazda RX-7 revival to house it… yet. It's actually back as a range extender generator in the usually electric-powered Mazda MX-30, in the new, rather clunkily-named, e-Skyactiv R-EV.
Dave with Richard. I have a nice tip for you that might be very useful. Bind plug . I have updated this bind plug with an off and on switch. you never have to remove the bind plug again. Easy to make take an old servo cut the cable off leave the two outer cables cut to length and put a small on and off switch in between. works perfectly, I also did it on my plane. greetings and Happy flying buddy. 🖐😃👍✈️🛩
That is a good tip. One of my helicopters keeps loosing bind as well, so all I did was run a servo extension cable out to the boom. If I need to bind, I plug the bind plug into that. I like your idea as well. Thanks so much and happy flying to you as well.
Wow that plan flies amazing, that engine is a awesome your flight ✈️ skills are unsurpassed. Thanks again Dave for showing us all that your the man. God bless you and yours.
I always thought that this motor in one of the earlier helicopters like the Hiroho Shuttle would make for a smooth flyer. Your videos bring memories back of my Morley Maveric powered by a Super Tiger 61 motor.
@@TestECull I have not heard of any other brand rotary's. I will have to check "Toyan" out. Thanks. @@NightFlyyer Ye. Most of the Toyan engines wont even rotate. Swarf left inside them, no deburring, fundamental design issues. OS/NSU/Graupner went with the finely machined approach whereas Toyan just went 'that looks about right'. Toyan is also using sheet metal faces for the rotors which bind up the works pretty bad. Bloody miracle if your 350 dollar single rotor or 750 dollar twin rotor can even rotate....yeah nah I'll just buy a used OS and know it will start pretty much first flick 🤣
The sound reminds me of one of the old rotary Datsun pickups. How much power do the nitro wankels make compared to the piston engines? Any weight savings?
Definitely lighter with no cams, valves with only 2 moving parts. Very high HP ratings. This is just a single rotor, but Mazda made many versions with up to 6 rotors. They are very fast, but again, hard to make smog compliant and poor fuel consumption makes it expensive to run. Thanks much.
$800 engine, $5 plane. I love it.
Very true. The Plane actually it cost a lot more. I think $6.25. LOL. Thanks.

Right on. You have been around quite a while and I appreciate you for it. Thanks much.
Nice build sir, very ingenious for sure. That motor sure gives it some get up and go! You’ll be flying it again in no time. Semper Fi.
Thanks much, Scott. I hope so, as it just snowed here again last night. Semper Fi!

Got one myself, new in box. Don't decided if I'm going to use it or not. Anyway great plane and video 🙂
Let me know if you want to sell it. Thanks much, Tom

I picked up a wankel last year and have a little stick I'm going to put it on. Can't wait to get it mounted and run it
That will really crank! I would love to see that. Post your link here when you do.
That was awesome, thanks Dave 👍😁
Great. Thank you as well, Dave.

That thing rips!
It does pretty good for only 2 moving parts! Thanks.
Hello Sir, I'm happy I just found your channel. Watched a lot of videos. Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise.
Super cool engine.
Thanks. I think so too, Bret.
What a great engine Dave I’ve always like those engines. Hope you have a great day!! Can’t wait for april
Looking forward to April as well. Glad you like this. See you soon and thanks much.
One of my holy grail engines. I'll have one eventually. Don't know what I'll do with it but I'll have one eventually.
Right on. Well, just run it for fun for one thing. Hope you can find one. Thanks.
@@NightFlyyer Part of why the toyan rotaries are such a disappointment. They....can't run. And those sell for the same prices these OS ones command!

Thanks for showing us this very unique engine again btw Dave what size props does this engine use?
Thanks so much. It is a 10x6 Zinger wood prop.
@@NightFlyyer Cool I wonder if this engine would fit on 40 size high wing plane like a Big Stick or Avistar??
@@3DMOFO2020 Probably would. It flies this wing pretty good, so maybe a Little Stick would be better. For now, it is on my wing.
