What I mean by that is: one would expect the parents of disabled people to be the most sensitive and understanding when it comes to such a sensitive matter, but apparently, that’s not the case at all.

I disagree with you because young people disabled or not disabled need more exercise than us people who are old need to in safer settings than any old park say in a residential area near the downtown core of a large city. Any park in a large city can be dangerous at times for young people to get exercise in thanks to predators who prefer to prey on children with more disabilities than what the rest of the chidlren there might have. Predators can spot a child with any disablitiy far faster than healthy people would because that is what they are looking for.

yeah, what makes it difficult too is non-disclosure of (at minimum, large) donors, and the vast network of money holes that have been invented in order to hide where money is originally sourced from. even if they had to disclose funder sources (mainly large ones, esp from other organisations), funders would just go through the tangled net of these shadow funding sources. this would circle back to a prime issue NPOs already have: it takes a lot of time to check for validity, time many people don't have or don't want to dedicate to the task for a variety of reasons. and when scandals like this show up, it adds a myriad of reasons on top of the soup of why people don't want to choose to spend their time trying to figure it out.
for people who don't have the time for diving into the rabbithole, but who do want to help some NPO but don't know what to look for, i always suggest: how big is the organisation, how big is the scope and how much of a spectacle follows that organisation around? do they have periodicals sent to donors? did they advertise on television or through ad campaigns that are generally thought of as expensive (video ad campaigns are very expensive and especially if the ad has a variable amount of editing flair, an ad on a middle page of the local newspaper is very cheap and ads posted on a town hall bulletin is free, etc)? for rescue orgs, like animal sanctuary and poverty help and acute disaster help, do they invite people to spectate, and do they have an implied secondary goal of social disturbance or conformity to an expected norm for exchange of help (treating people as needing to be 'brought up' to the norms of western culture or religion, or treating animal sanctuaries as zoos, etc)?
most of these can be answered relatively easily with a cursory pass on their website and in general, if they show a lot of glitter and flair, find a better group tbh. and if they are helping folks then they should be open to understanding the people they're helping, not trying to bend them into an idealised concept of normal to the helpers.

Westerners aand non theravedan buddhists have entirely the wrong idea of Karma. Buddha called karma THE UNTHINKABLE. Karma is not personal, not spiritual, it's universal and a physical force. If you do good, it does not magically come back to you. It basically says that your actions contribute to a karmic "stream", somewhat like a physical force in time that we cannot yet measure or concieve of properly because we're still working dimensions and time out. Things get kind of carried along in these streams, but it's not personal, and it's not magic.
The western concept of Karma is as stupid as believing there's an imaginary sky person who watches you and grants your wishes and sends you trials. Stupid. The universe doesn't give a shit about us, get used to it people.

I think it's worth noting that Special Olympics is nowhere near the kind of program the Paralympics is. It's not in as many countries, there aren't as many sports, and they don't get the same sponsorship opportunities. Most Paralympic sports still don't allow people with intellectual disabilities to compete because of this scandal, so those athletes are being denied so many opportunities. The Paralympics has a pretty narrow view of what disabilities they consider worthy, and this scandal just made things worse.
The issue of people exaggerating their disability during assessments has been a huge topic of controversy among athletes in recent years. People will go to ridiculous lengths to cheat. Many amputees have been outspoken about this in recent years, as their conditions are more black and white, which puts them at a disadvantage.
Also, thank you for acknowledging that these are real sports. People usually don't.

While I am not qualified for special needs and didn’t need that sort of care, and probably wouldn’t be put on a team like that since autism doesn’t make me intellectually disabled, instead I have a disability that isn’t visual and effects me in other ways, ableism still effects me and many other people with different ranges of disabilities. Knowing the experience of having an invisible disability myself, it’s so terrible to take advantage of it and cheat when disabled people are just trying to play sports. And on top of that, leave out the actual disabled teammates! Sadly, I can definitely relate to being left out due to being on the spectrum, it’s a really shitty thing to do!

Being a track and field runner for many years, it warms my heart to see The Special and Paralympic Olympics! They literally kick ass and are just as amazing, but I hate to see assholes that lie about their disabilities to get ahead and don’t think they will get away with it! 💯
