  • This is the story of Josh. He was awarded a full bursary to study at Eton College. Growing up on a council estate in Camberwell, South London, this was a big change for him.
    Eton College runs an award called the Orwell Award which offers bright boys from disadvantaged backgrounds an opportunity to study at this school with all their expenses and tuition fees covered by the school.

      Nope, it's not. It's where they sucking the life out of otherwise intelligent people. They teach you to conform and become a gate keeper of this terrible babylonian system.
      Eton does not encourage diversity of thought. They recently fired a teacher who dared to commit thought.
      You're better off talking to the homeless man on the tube. You'll get far more.

    i wonder what secondary school he went to because no one in Camberwell talks like that, no matter what school they go to. hope he’s okay tho, must’ve been such a culture shock. and also Camberwell has a lovely community too, it’s not stabbing every day like the media makes it seem.

      Although he STILL does not talk like I do. Eg before a word starting with a vowel eg end instead of saying the you pronounce it thee - thee end. He does not do that because he only started changing how he speaks at age 16 so he does not come over entirely as of that class because of his speech differences. Had he started at 13 it would probably have been different.

    Sounds like Josh made the best of that opportunity. Many people misunderstand the value of Eton's education and think it is
    simply elitist and irrelevant. This highlights that it is a broad and thought-provoking education that stimulates as well as equips.

    • @KM41867
      @KM41867 Год назад

      It's not elitist? What a joke.

    • @AnnabelleJARankin
      @AnnabelleJARankin Год назад +1

      @@KM41867 Depends what you mean by elitist - it is certainly superior to what most of us have, but the teaching is fantastic and equips the boys to be extremely useful in society. Every system has 'elites', but I think the word 'privileged' is better... though neither is devoid of sour grapes!

    Unfortunately the first black student to attend Elton College Dillibie Onyeama was subjected to so much racism that he wrote a book about his experiences as a result of which he was banned from ever returning to the college...
    Eton is has and always will be boarding kennels for rich pups, they’ve only admitted gifted working class boys to give the impression of diversity.
    It’s worth remembering that an expensive education is no substitute for common sense...eg. Boris Johnson.
