  • We got some really cool dichro tubing for a cool sake bottle set this week. Dustin uses the lathe for most of the shaping, and there's some good crack repair in there as well!

The lathe work was really cool to see! I'm a scientific glassblower, and the job I do involves solely lathes. Was real interesting seeing your process.
Another lathe company I'd recommend (though I think they're out of business now) is Heathway. They were the backbone of UK scientific glassblowing, and they're basically regarded incredibly highly. Most of the equipment we own is 40+ years old and still runs pretty well. Expensive to get parts though obviously.
Also for people who don't know, you can't use a metal/woodworking lathe. Glass lathes actually spin the opposite way to regular lathes. I guess it might be possible if lathes have reverse gearing, but they tend not to want to be run constantly in reverse, plus glass lathe chucks tend to be a bit different as well

Happy to see some lathe work! Got my lathe at the beginning of last year, but due to life, only just got it up and running a few days ago. Started watching your vids 6 years ago. Been progressing because of you. More lathe work please! Thank you!

I love how Dustin kept his cool and saved the piece. That kind of patience is inspiring. I'd use the set maybe for sake, maybe for THC lemonade or for another infused beverage. Maybe you guys could do a video on color striking glass, how to work it, the pitfalls... Just a thought.

      3months later... I don’t feel so lucky 🥺😭
      They never actually sent it😭😭😭
I was SOOO hyped too! I was even planning on spending my income tax to come to the workshop for the 1week in person class because Dustin & Kevin are so awesome. But now... idk how to feel, but I’m definitely holding off at this point. I gave them all my shipping info, they kept saying they’d get it out & then it seems like Kevin started dodging me all together, idk. maybe there was an accident or something but right now I just feel like I’m being trolled or something, like it was all just some sick prank.. maybe they don’t ever ship out the stuff that people “win” on the videos, but if so that’s kinda fucked up. They seem like super chill people & I’m sure they’ve just been buisy the last 3 and a half months. But damn, it’s really got me down 🥺😢

Dang this is great. I've been working on a sake set for myself but just don't quite have the firepower or grabbers to make the larger flask (tokkuri) the way I want. Getting two or four sake cups (ochoko) made identical is also a real challenge! It's a real lesson on consistency. Nice work as always. Definitely would use for sake.

Thanks for sharing your craft! I actually have 2 questions.
    1) What tweezers do you use? I have several sets of stainless tools that I have purchased while starting out and all have developed this “flared” end at the tips and I’m looking for something heavier.
    2) What are some other techniques for getting cool layering effects in hollow work beside wrap and rakes?

Could I get sort of the same results on a bit of a smaller scale with something like a taffy turner?

What are your complaints with Heathway lathes they are a og in scientific glass yea most of the ones I've seen are loud and creaky beasts but on the same token most of the ones have been ran hard daily for a few generations and still run smooth and true

Hi Guys, Newbie here. I'm looking at purchasing a kiln, curious if height vs width is that important. Does it matter which way something sits in a kiln? e.g. laying a bong sideways. Much appreciated!
Another thing, I can't seem to find any fold-over videos. I would love to see how its done. Something like this. instagram.com/p/CIR-KpLJfsx/
    Thanks!
