Hi Donald. I visited my Auntie in Seattle in 1997 . Her husband was a vintage car collector and he had an Austin 7 America . He took us for a drive in his latest acquisition a '41 Cadillac convertible . Just a short drive ....400mile to Hurricane Ridge and back to Tacoma ! Thanks Donald.
The American Austin/Bantam cars were really wonderful and it is sad that the business was not successful. As noted, there were a surprising number of body styles and they were often purchased in panel truck form for promotional purposes. And it should not be overlooked that the 1938 Bantam Roadster is considered to be the inspiration for the "313" car driven by Donald Duck in some classic cartoons!
"It's easy to design a big luxury car, or even a sports car". Riiiiight.
Love those little cars!
Awesome video
That's a good point about how difficult it is to design a small car. I think a lot of European and Japanese manufacturers failed at this in the 1970s when they tried to shoehorn American coke bottle styling into small saloons, eg mk3 Ford Cortina, Hillman Avenger, various Datsuns. They would have been better off using cleaner, straighter lines.
My answer to the quiz question is some sort of smart car model.
Donald, love your videos!
I’ve started caretaking one of these adorable cars for my friend. He never moves it, it just sits there, holding court over the larger vehicles in the room. Hopefully I can wheel it out and take proper photos.
I have a childhood memory of one of these in a barn, covered with stuff. I've asked a cousin about it. This goes back 65-70 years ago, just a faint memory.
Thanks dear.
I think the problem is even cheap small cars were a niche market. (See crosley and king midget) beautiful car, but it's was more of a luxury car in the states then anything.
Love that Bantam
my guess is the fiat 500 considering the smart is discontinued?
Donald duck's car 😍😍😍😍😍
King Midget was the smallest American car...
Hey, where's Jay?
Is anyone else thinking about what a Honda v-tech would do in place of that Continental engine?
Interesting small cars are vanishing in the United States as both the Smart Car and Fiat 500 are no longer sold but you can still buy a Chevrolet Spark.
I would love to have that coupe shown at
