Got another bizarre tip to add to this list? Add it in the comments!!! 🎉
You seem like such a genuine, kind, thoughtful individual, and it’s so nice how you find ways to collaborate with other people and involve the community you’re building through your channel and business; a few examples being the collaborative project you did with an artist from your online community to show the biodegradation of linen on your channel and website, highlighting sewing tips from channel subscribers just now in this video, commenting and/or heart-ing people’s comments to acknowledge you’ve read and appreciate it, as well as creating circularity within your business by repurposing textile waste and reusing shipping materials sourced from your local community. 😊❤ I looked back on your videos and saw that it’s been three years since I found your channel when your video about the environmental impact on synthetic fibers came up on my For You page (I majored in environmental science and sew as a hobby, so RUclips did a good job with suggesting that). I still enjoy tuning into every video upload, and it continues to be such a pleasure to see you, your channel, and your business grow! 🤗 As much as I love sewing, it’s crazy to admit that, apart from some decor items I’ve sewn for myself and my partner for our home, I’ve NEVER sewn any other types of new items for myself (I’ve only ever altered or embellished existing clothing). This is mainly due to issues within my own mind, and I’ve promised myself to put an end to that this year. We’re already a month into the new year, so I’m going to pick and sew one of your designs FOR MYSELF this month. I’m nervous but excited! 😅 Anyways- sorry for the long rant -All in all, I just wanted to remind you that you are very much appreciated and admired! 🤗✌️❤️
My favorite tip of yours of all time (mentioned in another one of your videos) is putting a piece of tape on top of the button to hold it still while you use the buttonhole function on the machine to sew it on. Life changing. I've broken more than a few shell buttons (and needles) when the button didn't stay put when I engaged the machine. As you said so eloquently; No more **** slippy buttons!!!
Oh gosh! Love the standing sewing machine! I set up one of my machines at standing level 8-9 years ago and the relief on my back and shoulders has been lifesaving. Great tip!
I love the cat.
❤😂❤
Creative ideas! I can't think of any I have
I love watching your channel. I'm going to try that toothpaste trick. FromAustralia
Here's my "paragraph or two"
Your channel showed up on my feed and I thought I'd start following
... Why not???
Anyhoo
My tip (unless you've already heard or know)
I rarely use 4 threads on my serger. Usually only 3 after stitching with regular sewing machine.
But I always use a different color thread in the needle so all I do is pull THAT thread to remove them all.
Eg. When white thread in loopers I use yellow in the needle. When black or navy in loopers, I use gray in needle thread. Easier to find in the mess of serger stitches. Also works on 4 threads. Just always pull the needle thread to remove them all.
I love standing to sew! I use bed risers from the thrift store to get the height from a regular table. I recently started to knit and my only complaint is how much sitting it requires. The overlock stitch could be spaced closer if you wanted that serged look.
I do the zigzag over a thick cord to gather thick fabric as well ( an extra thick string, not the sewing thresd) I will try the toothpaste trick right now. Using ALL the stitches on my maching is also a blind spot for me
Lol! Watching you stuff the cat...😮😅
Definitely going to try the tooth paste. I've been standing to serge for 30 years because I had to hustle when I was a costume designer, but never tried it for sewing. For gathering, I prefer my old style of long stitch length. Bravo!
I have a small table top stand up desk and I place my sewing machine on it works great my kitchen table :)
The zigzag over the thread can be done over a piece of string instead of thread and the string or cord will not break.
Or dental floss.
Super cool, thank you.
Sewing standing up was a game changer for me. I bought a Husky table from Home Depot. Manual hand crank to move the table up and down. Bonus is that it has two drawers in it - perfect for rulers, scissors, threads, etc.
Btw, the blue slanted stitch next to the black Blind Hem stitch is for "overlocking" stretch fabrics. Try it out on a knit.
Interested to know the pattern for the top your wearing?
my cable for my foot paddle isnt long enough to be able to sew with a standing desk 😅 I have a heavy duty singer as well… did you get a longer cable for yours?
oh and I think the S on the dial actually stands for stretch, not special ^^ the blue stitches should be the ones who work best with stretchy fabric
Hahaha omg it probably does mean stretch 🤣.... I've got to start googling things before saying them on here hahah. But I guess in Leah-land they just mean "special"... I didn't even try the regular stitch (not on "S")-- and now I'm wondering if that's even better!! Also, for the foot pedal... I didn't get a longer cable since I'm still technically using mine at my sitting desk (was just trying the standing here)-- the pedal did kinda/barely reach for the experiment though! I know my sister googled it for forever trying to find a longer cord for hers and couldn't figure it out. I wonder if anyone else has had any luck? Hopefully someone will find this comment and help us all!
@@charliedarwintextiles haha they can mean special too! :D
for the foot pedal yeah it really doesnt seem like this exists, at least without messing with the electric wiring :(
there was one video where the machine has an audio type of cable to connect just the foot pedal, which can be extended easily. But not with the Singer cables :/ we should petition Singer to produce longer cables, for the good of all our backs!! ^^
Hi, Thanks for all the tips and tricks, very useful. Also do you use your Singer Heavy Duty for dressmaking? And do you think it's as good as an industrial machine or is it an industrial machine? Would you recommend it?
Hi Hannah! I do use it for making all of my clothes, then usually finish my seams with a serger. But like I said in that last tip, it could work pretty well for finishing seams on its own! It is not an industrial machine, but it is legitimately "heavy duty" as the name implies. I've honestly never used an industrial machine, so can't compare it, but I love that it has so much versatility to it (like some industrial machines I see look like they don't have as many stitch options or the removable arm at the base so that you can sew around sleeves and pant leg hems and stuff.) I've used mine pretty heavily for about 5 years and I swear it works like new still... (knock on wood!!)
@@charliedarwintextilesThat's all really helpful. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. X
