I can thank this movie and Nickelodeon's H2O for my belief in mermaids with their realistic ass tails. Especially compared to the Shirley Temple Little Mermaid tail lol.

i literally told so many people about “the movie where the boy turns into a fish” and no one believed me. this movie gave me nightmares. the idea of turning into a fish and not being able to stop it was terrifying.
I thought "yeah mermaid powers!" but when you put it like that it really would be very concerning to just randomly grow scales and a tail.

Theory: mermaid mom is a full breed mermaid that doesnt know English. She fell in love with a human despite they cant dont know how to verbally communicate. She gets pregnant; dont ask it's kinda fishy. And in the beginning she is trying to find the father but she cant and she ends up loosing him bc she dumb Fish. So since he is half, he can turn from human to mermaid but he has to learn some mermaid things first and stay with his mom

I think that she didn't LOSE him, but rather gave him to the humans in hopes he would find his father (even if this is very slim, since she doesn't know how massive the human population is) so the expression she was giving before was probably hope and worry.

This was the first thing I watched on Disney Plus lol. Wild to watch someone talking about it after not being believed when I mentioned it in discussions of favorite DCOMs irl. I think this is what made mermaids my favorite magical creature as a child...I only saw it once when I was like three but it was powerful. Merboy was _very_ cute to me.

I was on a date and we decided to find the worst movie we could and came across "scales: mermaids are real" on netflix. It's literally just a modern 13th year with all insinuated lesbians and somehow worse CGI.

When I was little I thought that mermaids were like dolphins and communicated through clicks and whistles but now I’m realizing that I gave way too much credit to them. I also assumed that the mermaid wasn’t able to go out into land because she never had and her body would go into shock or something but once again, too much credit

I loved this movie as a kid, I was obsessed with mermaids and even believed they existed and wanted to be one. Unfortunately I also wasn't too fond of swimming in the ocean or lakes cus I was terrified of the possibility of getting dragged down into the water, well that and seaweed touching me.
