I deal with trucks everyday man and I expect to see manual trucks around for a good while longer. Another 10-20yrs at least is my opinion, but I could be wrong. They are still heavily rooted in the vocational, heavy haul, owner op, and small company markets. Which is the lifeblood of truck sales really. There is a lot more out there than just mega carriers. And electric is too far out to even consider at this point. That’s what I was referring to when I said don’t limit yourself. Not everyone wants to stick with a mega carrier for their entire career. There is nothing wrong with doing so however, and there is not a thing wrong with Maverick. They are a great company for sure. Their trucks are tuned and spec’d for efficiency and mileage. Not all auto trucks are that way though, some are the complete opposite. Depends on engine/trans combo, rearend ratios, and driving habits.

I hear what you're saying. However, one thing you may have forgotten is our government. Regulations are changing, and the way I see it, manuals are gone sooner than later through mandate.

Yea the government pushing electric trucks do not care about non mega carrier drivers transmission preference. It’s going to be like HD pickups before long and not even be an option anymore because with new technology and advancement in machines autos are holding up. In my opinion before long manual transmissions will be an endorsement rather than a restriction on how common it will be. I could be wrong.

The plan for most people is to be a company driver. My plan is to be an owner operator. The manual transmission is cheaper to repair. The day when all trucks are electric is well after I'm out of driving trucks. My truck gets better fuel mileage at 65 mph but not that much better. Must mega carriers do the governor for insurance reasons. Owner operators used to be in another pay level before things went to the dumps.

The only reason these big companies are going with automatic trucks is because its becoming harder to fill their trucks and to find people who can or will learn to shift in this new generation. If you think having to shift is an added factor that makes your job even harder, than you definitely never drove a manual truck. I went to school and learned stick shift and I can drive 8LL, 10, 13, 15, and 18 speeds all day long and shift just fine. And you dont press the clutch 700 times a day, you can float the gears which I recommend and only use the clutch for starting and stopping. Not to mention the automatics cost more to repair.

This logic has seriously got to be the most comical out in left field delusion theory possible in the trucking world. I’ve heard it before. Truck manufacturers are producing mass automatic trucks not because the hard rare special unique skill of shifting a transmission is just impossible to find these days, it’s because it’s old technology that’s not needed anymore. People are not being taught because it’s not really needed and is fading out everyday. It’s equivalent to saying people have been watching Hulu/Netflix because young people can’t drive to blockbuster anymore. All these companies investing in the research autonomous trucks do you really think an automatic transmission is a roadblock in their journey? They are running self driving trucks in these times with “safety drivers” on board. You can’t make this stuff up.

Everywhere is going automatic because of progress, not because people born before after 1975 just can’t seem to be born to preform a skill of moving a shifter to a transmission. You can’t make up their logic.

They still will need a driver in that truck. I don't think the public will like we fact they don't have a driver in a truck. That is a dangerous situation. Computers fail.

electric is junk and so is automatic. idk if anyone else talked about it. I'm not going to look through all the comments. I'm going to say this, how are you going to get electricity? diesel generator... do you know the price difference from automatic and standard transmission? way more. even with mega carriers always buying new trucks because new engines and auto transmissions are junk. clearly most not all new drivers/students is what is killing the industry. I hate to say it but I went to school with guys and girls are going to hurt themselves or someone else because their just flat out steering wheel holders not knowing left from right. same with the government trash and its not going to last. normally I don't say shit but people are dying and being killed over stupidity that obviously isn't gong to change one can hope though. I might not be politically correct but it's my opinion just like everyone has one.

And you wonder why the interstates are backed up and there is no accident because you have to dumb ass truck driver's side by side holding everything up I wish they make a law where the penalty for this 1500-2000 dollar no reduction it don't make sense
